Ash Ketchum: The star of the show. Japanese name: Satoshi
From: Pallet Town
Goal: to be the worlds greatest Pokemon Master
Pokemon: Pikachu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charizard, Krabby, Tauros, Muk, Lapras, Snorlax, Pigeot (he left behind in pallet)
~Ash has been traveling for quite some time now. For the Indigo League, Ash got all eight badges (although he was given half of them) and competed . He placed in the top 16, and he's now traveling the Orange Archipelago collecting the badges there. He needs 4, and so far he has 2, the Coral Eye Badge and the Sea Ruby Badge. Right now, he's on his way to get his 3rd badge.

Misty: Ash's companion Japanese name: Kasumi
From: Cerulean City
Goal: To be the worlds best everything.
Pokemon: Togepi, Horsea, Staru, Starmie, Goldeen, Psyduck
~Misty met Ash one day (first episode) when she was fishing and pulled him out of the water. He took her bike to get away from a bunch of spearows. The next day, (second episode), he was at a pokemon center and she came POed about the fact that he destroyed her bike, and said she'd never leave his side until he paid her back. Since then, they've grown to be friends and it seems as if Misty doesnt even remember about the bike. Every one's always buggin her and Ash about liking each other.

Brock: Ash's Buddy Japanese name: Takeshi
From: Pewter City
Goal: To be a great Pokemon Breeder.
Pokemon: Onix, Vulpix, Geodude, Zubat
~Ash first met Brock when he challenged him to a match. Brock was the first leader Ash ever battled, and it was hard since Ash didnt have the best pokemon. Ash lost, and then learned from a guy named Flint that Brock had to take care of 10 younger siblings since his dad left and his mom passed away. Eventually, Ash challenges Brock again, but, just as he had the upper hand, Ash forfeited the match, out of pity. Then, Brock felt bad so he gave Ash the badge. The guy Flint turned out to be Brock's dad, so Brock was allowed to leave and Ash asked him to come along. He helped Ash alot on his way.
In a recent episode, Brock stayed behind with Prof. Ivy to become a breeder.
(note: i hear he comes back for a movie and/or the last few episodes. I'm not exactly sure)

Tracey: Ash's New Buddy Japanese name: Kenji
From: Orange Islands (i forget which one)
Goal: to be a great pokemon Watcher and to meet his idol, Prof. Oak.
Pokemon: Marril, Venonat, Scyther
~If i remember correctly, i think they met Tracey 2 episodes after Brock left. Ash and Misty were looking at a poster for the Orange League and Tracey explained it to them. Then, Ash called Prof. Oak about the League and Tracey was all excited about Prof. Oak and kinda invited himself to go along with Ash and Misty. Misty wasn't very thrilled, but she got over it quickly.

Gary Oak: Ash's Rival, Conceited Pok�mon Trainer

Goal: To be a great Pok�mon master and have Ash kiss the ground he walks on
Pok�mon: All we know of are Arcanine, Krabby, Doduo, and Nidoqueen. I don't think we've ever seen any others.
~A big misunderstanding involving ash and Gary is that everyone thinks they were friends before the whole Pok�mon journey began. This is true in the game and I think the Manga comic too, but in the TV show, they met for the first time in the first episode. Ok, anyways. Gary and ash have been at competing to be the best from Pallet all along. They both went to the Pok�mon league and competed, but Gary never made it to the Indigo stadium. As far as I know, we haven't seen Gary since he lost. (I could be wrong. I've missed alot of the new episodes ^.^)

Prof. Samuel Oak: Wise Pok�mon professor, ash's adviser, Gary's Grandfather Japanese Name: Dr. Okido

Goal: To have Gary and Ash fill out the Pokedex for him.
~ Prof. Oak is the wise old Prof. that gave Ash Pikachu and gives him advise along the way. He's kind and is quite proud of how far Ash has gotten. He's world famous, and Tracey is a strong admirer of his work. Right now, Oak is trying to solve a mystery of a gold pokeball with the letters GS written in them. They call it the GS ball. He got it From Prof. Ivy. Ash has it and is going to give it to him after the Orange League. Pictures
Mrs. Delia Ketchum: Ash's Mom
From: Pallet
~Well, what can we say about Mrs. Ketchum? She's a typical mother, always worrying about Ash and everything he does and what not, and telling him to do chores (like 400 pound of fertilizer!). You know. Mom stuff. But she's very supportive of him.

Nurse Joy: The cheerful nurse
From: Every Major City with a Pok�mon Center, and then some (remember, the super Joy that travels from island to island??).
Goal: To heal and love all the Pok�mon in the world!! hehe....
Pok�mon: Usually Chancey
~Well, Joy is a sweet nurse who loves to take care of Pok�mon and helping there trainers, too. She's always nice and there to lend a helping hand. She doesn't believe in fighting (bad fighting), and cruelty towards Pok�mon.

Officer Jenny: The strict cop
From: Every Major City, and then some (RANGER JENNY!!)
Goal: To prevent crime everywhere
Pok�mon: Usually Arcanine
~You sure don't want to be bye a Jenny with a guilty conscience. You might be suspected of Pok�mon Poaching. (O.o) Officer Jenny was first very suspecious. It was kind of annoying. But the new Jennies, especially in the Orange Islands, are really nice.
