Our Story

It all started on August 9th 1997 when I was trying to keep track of an online acquaintance, Kari, who had moved to Los Angeles. Kari went to see Jennifer and stayed with her for a bit. While there Kari made use of Jennifer’s computer, adding herself in Jennifer’s ICQ. I sent an authorization request through ICQ thinking that it was going to Kari, but it didn’t. Up until this point, Jennifer and I never even knew each other existed. Up until then, all of my online time was spent in powwow and all of Jennifer’s online time in IRC and AOL.

After staying a little while at Jennifer’s home, Kari moved on again. Then on August 10th, 1997 a chance event which would forever change and enrich my life took place. That day I received a reply to my request on the 9th, saying, "you requested to add me?" It was not Kari who replied rather, it was Jennifer. We talked back and forth about how I thought I was talking to Kari and how I ended up talking with her. That day, a great and wonderful friendship began. Almost everyday afterwards we would send a little note to each other, asking how each other’s day was going, discussing daily world events, sharing little by little in each others lives, happy and sad events. We soon found ourselves out of our respective relationships and comforting one another, as good friends do.

Soon after we found ourselves spending more time together when we were online, securing and tightening our friendship. We’d share with one another, not only our daily lives and that of our respective families, however; of our fears, our dreams and our hopes. Each day we learned more and more about each other, talked about our relationships, present and past. We laughed, we cried, we shared it all then, as friends do.

Natural progression led us to that other great invention: the telephone. In the beginning we found ourselves talking for 6 and 7 hours straight, once or twice a week. Again, sharing in each other’s lives, or just playing music to one another, or singing to one another.

Today, we still share all those same things with one another, the difference being that today, we share it as lovers as well as friends.

Though 4800+ Kilometers (3000+ miles) separate us, we are forever in love. The distance we will one day conquer. Being a Canadian, I require sponsorship from an employer in order to go to Los Angeles, to work, to be able to support myself and to be with Jennifer. Some ask, "Why not get married now, so you two can be together?" The reply is simple. "We will one day get married, however; when we do, we wish to do so for only one reason: that being our undying love for each other."
