Being a Star Wars fan, I take every opportunity to play a game based on the new movie The Phantom Menace : Episode I. So when I saw that shiny new box at the local computer store I jump at it. Automatically I saw the "3D Accelerator Required" patch on it, this may put a damper on some of our gamers out there (that includes all you ATI Rage Pro users out there, sorry.

The game is a little bit simplistic. With some non-challenging levels and some stupid puzzles, it kind of takes away from the Star Wars feel. The light saber sounds are awesome and the graphics (granted you have a good accelerator, like my Voodoo 3 2000) are amazing. The voice imitations are kind of lame, but the point is across of who is speaking. The guy that talked for Darth Maul, geez you need to get another profession pal, because you suck. The things he said 99% of the time were never heard in the movie.

The story line is no where near a involved as the movie, and one or two of the levels are sort of stupid. But don't get me wrong there are a lot of pluses to the game. Great cinematics, it is almost exactly like that move, (well most of the time). Some of the levels are very cool, like when you have to find your way back to the fight with Darth Maul, but I leave that to you to do.

It is best played with a gamepad or a joystick. I recommend the gamepad, it works a lot better. Interface to change the controls is easy, and all of the figures are easily turned on and off. It is very handy if you don't have a very fast computer that you can turn off some of the special effects for faster game play.

Over all the game is a good buy, for those that like the action adventure game and like Star Wars. But for all the other people that are not that type of person there are plenty of good games out there for you.
