Game Cheats

I have a theory on game cheating.  If you have the skill of editing a executable file or a savegame by yourself, then you deserve to cheat in that game.  If all you do is download a trainer or use cheat codes then that is no good, unless you don't have the time to spend to beat a game.  If you have 3 hours a day to play then you shouldn't cheat.  If you have 3 hours a week then why not?  Saves you a lot of time.

Here are the best cheating tools available right now off the Net

GameHack - never used it but some people I know say it is good (Windows 95)

GameWizard - one of the best cheat tools for MS-DOS games.  Easy to use, fast, can save tables.  Doesn't work for Windows 95 games.

Universal Game Editor - works for any game as long as you have the appropriate modules which you can download off the Internet.  Not very easy to use but still a very good cheat program.

Universal Hint System - provides extensive hints and walkthrus for a lot of games

Cheat O'Matic - searches memory locations and edits them

Magic Trainer Creator - One of the best cheat programs.  It allows people to create stand-alone trainers.  But the interface is terrible, takes a long time to learn how to use.

Hex Editing

The dark side of game editing.  Used to be the only way to cheat, but now with the new tools and the fact that most games have built-in codes, this art is almost obsolete.  However it is not that difficult to do, but caution must be exercised in practicing this dark art.

Crash guide to hex editing

The Golden Rule - Back up your files before doing anything!

No one wants to lose savegames because of a small mistake

Here are the general procedures for hex editing

1)  Remember the values you want to edit (forget about editing anything non-numerical).

2)  Open savegame in hex-editor.   If you don't have one, here you go.

3)  Use calculator to convert decimal values to hex.

4)  Swap them around.  Meaning if you have say 3A 75 for the converted values, swap them into 75 3A.

5)  Search for the swapped values.  Once found change them to whatever.  Be careful not to make them too high because there is usually a limit, e.g. for Civilization 2 limit is around 30000.  Don't be too greedy!

6)  Save and start the game!  Happy gaming!
