Welcome to alt.binaries.pokemon(abp). This is the general guidelines for posting and conduct within the newsgroup. If you're wondering why this is v.2.0, v.1.? went on permanent vacation, along with the cd it was stored on. Oh well.
What do you post here?
This group falls within the alt.binaries hierarchy. That means that it is set aside for posting binary files. Unfortunately that means that the post retention time is shorter than groups that fall outside the binary hierarchy. While this is not a discussion group, we do not discourage discussion. For the most part, the members of abp are reasonably friendly. Although, questions about the various games should probably be directed to alt.games.nintendo.pokemon.
What is a binary?
These include pictures, videos, text files, mp3's, and other multimedia files. They are usually attached to your post, and encoded to allow transmission on usenet.
One thing to note: This is an all ages group. For this reason, posting of hentai, or any other pornographic materials is not allowed. There are appropriate places for that material, this isn't one of them.
Multi-part posts
These are the posts that you see that have this after them - (x/y). That means that this is part of a multi-part post. Different newsreaders handle them differently. With all the different readers out there, it is impossible for me to cover all the different ways of combining these posts. If you need help with your reader, please ask. Netscape doesn't handle them at all, so if that is what you are using, the answer is simple - get another news reader.
On the subject of ...
SPAM
Simple - DON'T. We don't want to hear about anything that doesn't have to do with Pokémon. Actually, this isn't the place to advertise anything you have for sale. The group wasn't set up for you to make money. Therefore, please don't post for sale ads, or auction(E-Bay, etc.) ads either, even if they are pokémon related.
Trolls
What's a troll you ask? A troll is a person, usually with a single digit I.Q., that posts messages designed to anger people into a response. The best thing to do is ignore them. If they don't get a response, they usually go away.
Flame Wars
Once again, simple - DON'T. They don't accomplish anything. While it is true that people post replys in the heat of the moment(myself included), it is also true that after they calm down they realize that it was not necessary to flame someone. If you make this mistake, be big enough to apologize. We're supposed to have fun here.
*NOTE:* I have been with this group from pretty much day one. I have watched it grow from about 4 members. This group is becoming more popular daily, and as that happens we will see more of the same requests over and over. That's because they didn't catch the post a couple of days earlier, and it's probably already gone from their server. One word - Patience.
Pokémon Site Links
Do you have a new Pokémon site? Good for you. Post about it once. After that, put it in your sig. please.
Well, I guess that's about it for now. Later everyone.
