TAPS FOR THE USMC*

2013: US Army vs US Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA.*

It is 2013, after years of no major wars but severe economic problems, rapidly shrinking defense budgets, and scandals and poor PR by the USMC. The weapons of the 1990s are still in use. Recently, Congress has axed the entire Marine Corps. A few Marines are transfered to the Army but most are laid off. All Marine installations have been sold to real estate developers. But 300 Marines refuse to leave Camp Pendleton and have vowed to defend it to the death. Negotiations have failed. The President has decided that the rule of civilian law must be upheld. He orders reluctant US Army units to occupy the headquarters, but try not to kill too many Marines and (secondarily) try to avoid damage to civilian structures, especially the shopping mall and Interstate 5. Army has superior weapons, the Marines have superior morale.*

A human player should play the US Army and ignore the normal victory screen ignored. The game should be ended after the Army occupies the objective for one full turn or gives up.*
MAJOR ARMY VICTORY: Take the objective with less than 100 Marines killed.*
MINOR VICTORY: Take the objective with 100 to 200 Marine casualties.*
MINOR DEFEAT: Over 200 Marines killed.*
MAJOR DEFEAT: Failure to take the objective.*
Also try to avoid damange to buildings outside the base and of course minimize Army casualties. Destroyed Marine vehicles and buildings on the base are irrelevant.*
