Classix History
Classix Auto Recyclers, Inc., was started in September 1989 by Steve
Ruben. Steve had gained valuable experience, spending the previous 15 years in
an auto salvage business owned by his father and uncle. Specialization was
something that Steve believed in for a number of years before the formation of
Classix.
The auto salvage industry in the greater Cincinnati and Tri-state area was
undergoing many changes in the mid to late 1980s, with the formation of all
foreign yards, Ford-only yards and domestic yards. What this market didn't have
was a salvage yard for older vehicles, specifically collector cars.
Steve was always a General Motors oriented person, so this was an obvious
choice. Also in mind was the vast interchange of parts among the GM cars and
trucks. Pre-1980 vehicles were also something of prime interest, because of
mostly pre-emissions and pre-electronics in GM cars and trucks. Hence, Classix
specialized in the pre-1980 General Motors salvage.
Only S10 trucks were added in late 1996 to expand the truck
department beyond 1980, as the pickup market has grown over the past few years.
