May 13, 1943 - German and Italian troops surrender in North Africa
May 13, 1943, brought about the surrender of Axis troops in North Africa. The Italian and German armies were weakened by El Alamein. All resistance ended with a massive surrender by Germany and Italy. An estimated 240,000 prisoners were taken by the Allied troops.
