Hi everyone welcome to Music Maker for the Dragon 32 on the PC !

In this folder you should find:-

1. Msc_Mkr.txt - this file
2. Msc_Mkr.cas - the program
3. A folder (tunes) of tunes to load into Music Maker containing:-
   a. HgrnMrch.cas
   b. ImntSmgd.cas
   c. SlmbrSng.cas
4. A folder (MC_tunes) of ready to play executable tunes ie:-
   a. HngnMrch.cas
   b. IminStgd.cas
   c. Slmrsong.cas

Yes the 3 tunes are the same in each folder- I just used different
names to distinguish between the files and the executables.

To load and play the executable tunes first use CLEAR200,16384 as they
are saved at the top of memory then simply CLOADM and EXEC.

Instructions for Music Maker the program:-

NB. These instructions are written for T3.exe, the keys to use on another
emulator may be slightly different - unfortunately I can't remember the
original Dragon keys and I don't have a set of instructions for Music Maker
even though I wrote the damn thing ! (it was 11 years ago)

You can enter tunes of up to 4 channels.
On the tune edit screen the current channel is displayed on the left of the
screen between the staves.

Most of the program is self explanatory but you need to know the keys
on the tune edit screen.

When an inverted box is on the notes at the bottom:-

"Q" quits to the main menu which allows saving/modifying the tune etc.
"P" toggles playback of notes when drawn on/off

The LEFT/RIGHT arrows allow note/rest length selection

"F" adds a full-bar rest on the current channel
"R" adds a rest of the selected length on the current channel
"N" adds a note of the selected length on the current channel

The rests are added without further problem and the program moves on to the
next channel/position.

After pressing "N" for note a white box will appear on the stave which you
can then position using the UP/DOWN arrow keys.

NB. The default start position on the stave for note entry is fixed for
each channel- 1 at the top and 4 at the bottom.

When the note is in the correct position you may:-

  1. Press "!" to enter a note at that position with a flat added. (same on D32 ?)
  2. Press "" to enter a note at that position with a sharp added. (# on D32 ?)
  3. Press "N" to enter a natural note at that position ie. removing the
sharp/flat in the key-signature from the note.
  4. Press ENTER to enter a note at that position with none of the above.

NB. You can't add sharps/flats to positions with sharps/flats in the key
signature or add a natural where there's no sharp/flat in the key
    signature.

After pressing "!" or "" or "N" or ENTER you may now press:-

  1. "." to dot the note -- be careful, you are allowed to double-dot so if
you only want one dot then don't hold the key too long !
  2. "L" to link a note of a given pitch on a given channel with the previous
note OF THE SAME PITCH AND ON THE SAME CHANNEL.
  3. Or ENTER just to add the note with neither of the above (Or after
     dotting a note.)

NB. You must dot/double-dot the note if you wish to BEFORE pressing "L".

Once you have completed the above choices the program will move on to the next
logical channel/position in the tune and you may again select note length etc.

NB. By default the program will not allow notes to be entered that last
longer than the length of the current bar-- to do this you MUST use the "L"
option above. Also the program doesn't allow non-standard note-lengths and
you can end up with a "bad note length" at the end of a bar which will
cause the program to delete that ENTIRE bar and you must re-enter an
adjusted version.

I apologise for the poor method of correcting errors in the tunes but my excuse
is I had to fit the editer and the mc play code in 32k of memory !

  Have Fun,
       Dave Makin (Dave@parystec.demon.co.uk)

PS. If anyone out there has an original "boxed" version of Music Maker or
ANY copy of "Picture Maker" then I would love to hear from you !
Also If someone out there ended up with the CUMANA disk/s containing a lot
of tunes for Music Maker and a lot of other stuff including split-screen
programs (ie. PMODE3 and text together) that I wrote please get in touch.
