NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASES

NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASES

The "anatomic limits" of this area of Neurology are the cell body of the anterior horn cell on one end, and the muscle on the other. Neuromuscular specialists have expertise in diseases that affect the central nervous system as well. Those "central" diseases often present at first or are characterized by prominent neuromuscular manifestations.

TOPICS

For the sake of simplicity and organization, neuromuscular diseases are best classified anatomically. In this index of topics, you will find the medical term, then the description of the term, according to the anatomic classification. If you are new to Neurology, this will help you acquire the vocabulary and learn the classification at the same time. Within the following pages you will find further subclassification according to pathophysiology and etiology.

The Neuromuscular Examination
Motor Neuron Disease: Diseases of the Anterior Horn Cells
Radiculopathies: Disorders of the Nerve Roots
Plexopathies: Disorders of Nerve Plexi
Cranial Neuropathies: Disorders of Cranial Nerves
Peripheral Neuropathies: Disorders of Peripheral Nerves
Disorders of the Neuromuscular Junction
Myopathies: Disorders of Muscles
