What is UPS?
ll power protection devices are not created equal in ability, capacity and limitation, so understanding their capabilities and limitations is very important aspect. The below explanation is the technologies and the level of protection which existing in the power protection market.

Surge suppressors or surge protectors are passive electronic devices that protect against transient high-level voltages. Depending on the components involved, surge suppressors offer limited protection against power surges. In the case of high-voltage spikes, a high-quality surge suppressor can be a good choice. When large equipment like AC motors are turned on and off, they create large, fast voltage changes (switching transients). However, low frequency surges (slow changes at 400 Hz or less) can be too great for a surge suppressor to handle.

The simplest types of power protection device, surge suppressors are often used to shield important, but not critical or highly sensitive office equipment, such as copiers and fax machines. They may also complement more comprehensive power protection solutions.

Power line conditioners were one of the first power protection devices to come on the market. They were originally designed to shield small computer installations before the introduction of low-cost, small-capacity surge suppressors and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). These devices offer regulation over a certain bandwidth of voltage fluctuations.

Against power surges, high-voltage spikes and switching transients, power line conditions provide a level of protection similar to that offered by surge suppressors. In addition, some protect against power sags and brownouts for up to two cycles and are also an adequate solution for electrical noise problems.

The remaining power protection technologies are classified under the umbrella term Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Even there are many new technologies have been developed in order to protect and solve power management problems. At present time, UPS is the most effective for power protection which is widespread throughout the world.

For UPS is considered the most effective and high ability device for power protection. UPS can cover all the problems from electricity dysfunction and high ability for power management. UPS gain a lot of trustworthy and favor from the users, especially in IT business such as computer, server, and other peripheral which required high quality and continuation of power supply for effectiveness and efficiency.

There are 3 main components of a UPS system

Gerneral UPS Diagram

1. Charger has responsibility in converting the AC electricity current into DC electric current. DC electric current will be used in 2 parts, for battery saving and go to the inverter.

2. Battery has responsibility for saving the power in form of DC electric current.

3. Inverter has responsibility in converting the DC electricity current into AC electric current. In normal situation, Inverter will receive AC electric current from Charger. And when electric problems arise Battery will supply power immediately. Inverter will receive electric power continuously which make the output electric power stable and uninterrupted.
