JHE - 50c coins with the double bar behind the emu's head
The best way to describe this is to show a normal 50c coin, and a special
one.
Sorry, pics not done yet.
Note: Officially (according to the books I have on Aussie coins & notes),
they only appeared in the years 1966, 79 & 80. BUT I am an avid collector
of these, & I have many coins to prove that they also were made in many other
years! These are:
Sometimes it can get really annoying when I'm paying for something, and the
person is waiting for me to hand over the cash, and I'm hurriedly trying to
check if the 50c coin(s) I'm holding has these lines or not! If I ever see one,
I always put it aside, usually in a different pocket from my other coins, then
transfer it to my collection when I get home.
I have been collecting these since about... 1988 ? I think... I was going to
type 1991, or something like that... but I first found out about them in 88,
so I reckon that's probably when I started.
So far, I've got about 80 of them. Most are average condition, just like any
you'd see in normal use. Very few are in 'fine' condtion.
