Amongst the hustle and bustle of Manchester's Northern Quarter you will find an oasis of calm that is Earth Cafe. Located directly below Manchester's Buddhist Centre, Earth Cafe is already gaining a glowing reputation for the food on offer.

The basement entrance leads directly to the main cafe area. Here a clever use of natural materials and neutral colours along with subtle lighting create the perfect environment for relaxed dining.

At the rear of the cafe there is a little nook known as poets corner, with a well chosen selection of books, the whole feeling of Earth is one of complete tranquility.

The cafe's menu is aimed at vegetarians although vegans are equally well catered for and the menu has a vast array of choices to suit all tastes. The blackboard menu changes daily... 

On the day the ILP review team visited, we found a choice of salads, sandwiches and main dishes as well as several very tasty soups. The chef's special was a delicious dish of cauliflower with carrot and tofu at a very reasonable £4.50... Other main dishes included Mushroom Pie at an unbelievable £2.00

We chose the chef's special along with pancakes filled with spicy beans, side order of rice and coconut and tomato salad. Presentation was excellent and each dish was tasty and very fresh.

The Chef, Vimala Bandhu, has 25 years experience and trained in Paris; he describes his creations as neither East nor West but cooking 'here and now' and we at ILP warmly applaud his efforts.

As well as the fabulous food on offer at Earth, they also serve stunning fruit and veg juices from their organic juice bar. The list includes Banana & Orange Delight, Strawberry Classic, Purifier, Kiwizinger, Mango Madness, Ginger Jolt and many others - each one is an explosion on the taste buds and truly refreshing. Priced at £2.50 and £3.00, they are not to be missed.

The Earth Cafe really is a great place to relax and enjoy good food at a price that is hard to beat. Highly recommended.
