Tucked away behind the
hustle and bustle of Cheadle's main shopping street you will
find the Mount Of Olives restaurant nestling quietly amongst the
suburban calm.
Occupying a large corner
plot, the restaurants ornately dressed windows with its elegant
drapes immediately catch the eye.
Once inside, the middle
eastern influences take a hold with its desert sand coloured
walls bedecked with fierce looking swords and regional wall
hangings; and observant diners will notice the deliberate
spelling errors all warmly lit with subtle up-lighting.
The accompanying shades of
red ochre, sage green and terracotta simply enhance the overall
feel and along with the Mediterranean music help create the
perfect atmosphere.
Downstairs, the basement
kitchen - which is larger than the dining room - is designed to
accommodate the requirements of the restaurants Kosher
clientele.
As what of the food itself;
the menu takes influences from Turkey to Armenia, Lebanon,
Syria, Israel and Egypt, right around the Barbary Coast to
Morocco and fuses them all together to create an eclectic mix
that provides a truly awesome bill of fare. The list of starters
makes for mouthwatering reading, regular diner wax lyrical about
the 'Mezzah' which offers a taster of starters: Hummus, Mutabal,
Ful, Baba Ganouche, Tabbouleh, Ararat Salad, Falafel, delicious!
To the main dishes; here
you can choose any one of thirteen different Kebab's, beef,
lamb, chicken or fish options, Kibbeh dishes, Cous-cous
dishes or maybe something from the specials list.
All main courses arrive on
huge plates and are beautifully presented. The are many
highlights on the main course menu but a continuous favorite
with regulars is the Cous-cous Maracaine (large tender chunks of
lamb with mixed vegetables in a spicy sauce served in semolina
and a hot Cous-cous sauce. The menu also gains good favour
with vegetarians as all the dishes listed have a vegetarian
option and indeed the majority of the starters are vegetarian
friendly.
The sweet selections are
varied and imaginative and include a very good middle eastern
cheese made with goats milk or maybe you could try Canafe
(shredded pastry with nuts, cinnamon, rose water and lemon
juice.
The wine selection,
described as New World, contains a real gem in the Lebanese red
'Chateau Musar', a truly excellent accompaniment to any meal.
The restaurants owner
Othman Ghosheh is justifiably proud of the standards maintained
at his establishment and of the warm welcome afforded to all
customers both old and new. We of the ILP review team warmly
applaud his efforts in making the Mount Of Olives the perfect
dining experience.
