Kame is the guardian of the Earth, an alien from the planet Namek. To become guardian, he had to expel all evil from within him. That evil expelled itself as Piccolo. If Piccolo dies, so does Kame, and vice-versa. Kame created the Earth Dragon Balls, and if Kame were to be killed, the balls would disappear.
