KIDS USE THESE SAFETY RULES FOR HALLOWEEN
Always use common sense. Young children should always go trick or treating with an adult. Plan your entire route and make sure your family knows what it is. Wait until you get home and your parents check your candy before you eat it. Be very cautious of strangers. Accept treats only in the doorway. Never go inside a house. Be sure and say thank you for your treats. Don't play near lit jack-o-lanterns. Visit only houses where the lights are on. Walk on sidewalks and driveways. Cross the street at the corner or in a crosswalk Carry a flashlight.
WHAT IS HALLOWEEN?????
"Virtually all our Halloween customs today can be traced to the ancient Celtic day of the dead. Each of Halloween's many mysterious customs has a history, or at least a story behind it. The wearing of costumes, for instance, and the roaming from doo r-to-door demanding treats can be traced to the Cetlic period and the first few centuries of Christianity when it was thought that the souls of the dead were out and around, along with fairies, witches, and demons. Food and drink were left out to placate them. As the centuries wore on, people began dressing as these dreadful creatures and performing antics in exchange for offerings of food and drink. This practice, called mumming, evolved into our present 'trick or treating.' To this day, witches, ghosts, and skeleton figures of the dead are among the favorite disguises."
LOOK OUT FOR THESE ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT
GHOST
, in popular superstition, the spirit of a deceased person in visible form. The traditional ghost of legend and ghost stories bears the same appearance that it did in life, but is luminous and transparent and is commonly clothed in a shroud. In spite of the great body of ghostly legend, the alledged behavior of ghosts is limited. Rarely are they represented as wreaking physical violence upon human beings. More significant than the perfunctory activities attributed to them in legend is their function as mediators or counselors. Because ghosts are reputed to have access to superhuman power and wisdom, people of all ages have sought to conjure them, usually through the aid of a medium. (From the American Peoples Encyclopedia)
IF YOU WANT TO GET RID OF GHOST WHO DO YOU CALL
"GHOSTBUSTER"
- CLICK ON PHRASE
BAT
, is small mouselike animal of the order Chiroptera. The bat is the only mammal capable of actual flight. The bat's wings are modified forelimbs, with a membranous skin tightly stretched between the elongated digits. Or could this simply be a Vampire looking for some trick or treater to bite upon the neck and drain the blood from the candy toting youth.
VAMPIRE, any being, whether animal or ghost, who actually or allegedly sucks the blood of living beings, man or beast. This habit was first ascribed to the "undead"-dead persons who rise from their tombs at night and drink the blood of young children, supposedly for the purpose of drinking themselves back into existence.
So all you Trick or Treaters beware and keep your neck covered and stay away from what you might believe to be a bat but could be a blood thursty Vampire.
WHERE ARE MY EYES?
SKELETON
, the hardened structure that supports the animal body and gives it characteristic form and shape. Look out for these when you are out begging for goodies on Halloween night, because you never know who's bones they are, could be an old friend, vampire or even the neighbor's dog or cat. Don't forget about everyone having a skelton in their closet which could be supspended by a rope just hanging there and turning around in the dark until you open the closet door and out the skelton jumps, so beware.
W I T C H E S
Today, a Witch is a woman or man who practices a life-affirming, Earth- and nature-oriented religion, honoring Divinity in female as well as (or instead of) male aspects, and practicing Magic (which some Witches spell "magick," to distinguish it from stage illusions). There are many different traditions of Witches, encompassing many beliefs in addition to these. Some traditions are practiced by women only, and recognize only the Divine Feminine, the Goddess. Others include men and recognize a male god in addition to the Goddess. Some traditions may date back to before the Spanish Inquisition, others have been in existence for only a few years. The strength of the Witches' religion (also called "the Craft" or "Wicca") lies in its diversity; it is a living, growing religious tradition.
Witchcraft today may be seen as the sum total of all a Witch's practices, including but not limited to: spellcasting, divination ("fortune telling"), meditation, herbalism, ritual and ritual drama, singing and dancing to raise energy, healing, clairvoyance and other psychism, creative mythology, and more.
