Sixth Sense Dreamer -- 6th and Artic had finished.....

putting the C4 in place, and had been working on getting the room ready for a possible stand off.

"How you doing?" Artickat called across the room to 6th from the door. She had been looking for holes in their defense. 6th heaved a golden throne up over her head and carried it over to their barricade.

"Almost...ugh!...finished!" 6th said, setting down the throne. Her newfound strength was a boon, but even with that, 6th was getting a bit tired. She'd moved almost all of the furnature in the room into a good cover, but was covered with sweat from her exertion. She wiped her brow, and stretched.

"Ok, it think that does it." 6th said, looking back at the wall where her friends had disappeared earlier. Then up at the airshaft. No sign of any person or parrot. Artickat was getting a bit nervous, and 6th was worried as well. She walked over to where the guys had disappeared.

"Ok, Artic, I'm gonna take a look at this thing. There's got to be SOME way to get it to reverse." 6th eyed the wall, and the jeweled eye. "Come here and look at this, Artic." 6th said. Artic came over to join her. "Do you see how this jewel scraped one way on the wall?" 6th said, pointing. "Maybe if I turn it back the other way it'll reverse. That makes sense, right?" Artic nodded, and 6th took a deep breath, and put her hand on the jewel. "Ok, let's go..." she said, and twisted the jewel back the other way.

The room filled with a green light, and beautiful, but very eerie music filled their ears. There was a shimmering in front of Artic and 6th. The music grew louder, and the girls covered their ears.
"We aren't going anywhere, are we?" yelled Artic.
"What?" yelled 6th.
"Hey look! Is that them?" Artic yelled pointing into the shimmer.

Sweetiepie Parrot -- following the string

Sweetiepie flew up the shaft, following the mysterious rope. He found it tied off at the top of the shaft. By climbing up it the 'Scapers could climb all the way to the top of the pyramid. But there was no indication of who had tied it there or why.

Damn odd.

Sweetiepie flew back down the shaft. Just as he came to the end and was about to enter the central chamber he heard a boom and saw a green flash...

Spyral -- The Return Trip

The angel felt himself collapse as the intense light released its hold on him. Hands seemed to come from everywhere to grab him before he could hit the floor.

"Spyral!" KaraS shouted.

"He's going down..." Mouse said.

"What the hell happened? Where did you guys go?" he heard Sixths voice coming from above.

"It wasn't the garden spot..." Spyral heard himself say.

Shaking his head to clear away the spots left behind from the teleporting light, Spyral looked up into the beautiful smiling face of Sixth.

"What the hell did this to him?" she asked nobody in particular.

"Let's just say the angel tried to fight a holy war on earth," Rae said.

"Sixth, I think there's somebody here that you'll wanna meet," Mouse said cradling something shiny and golden in her arms.

ArticKat and Sixth watched as the Golden Jaguar leaped from its' place in Mouses arms. Landing softly on its four paws, it slowly walked to where Sixth and Artic stood.

"It's.....alive?" Sixth asked, sinking to her knees.

*And grateful* the Jaguar replied. *I thank you and your friends for coming to my rescue*

"It's....She's...so beautiful," Artickat said, both of her hands to her cheeks.

*Thank You* the Jaguar seemed to purr.

"IT'S YOU! IT'S REALLY REALLY YOU!" came the voice of SweetiePie Parrot, emerging from the ventilation shaft above. He came to an almost crash landing in front of the Golden Jaguar, who looked at SweetiePie as one would an old friend. "I WASN'T NUTS! I...I mean...I didn't really think...y'know....I knew you had to....that is.." the bird stammered.

*I know.* the Jaguar returned calmly to SweetiePie. *It must have been hard for you to believe in me. To think that perhaps I only existed in your mind. What I asked of you, this was no easy task. To believe in or to accomplish. But you kept your promise to me. Even when you doubted yourself. When you all doubted yourselves.* the Jaguar gestured to the 'Scapers as a group. *I never doubted that you would find me. And find a way to secure my release. For this, you all have my eternal thanks and gratitude* the golden Jaguar leaped up onto a golden throne left, no doubt as an offering to some Aztec deity. The glow of the golden chair paled before the shimmering aura that seemed to emanate from the golden cat.

"Where will you go now?" Spyral asked.

*My home exists in what you would call another plane of reality* the cat spoke. *It may be a difficult concept for you to understand.*

"No," the angel replied. "I've had some.....experience.... in that matter."

*I got that impression of you* the Jaguar returned. *You are not of this plane either.*

"I once was," Spyral replied. "Long time ago. I died," he said simply.

*But that is not so much a planar existence....* the Jaguar started.

"Border World," the angel began in explanation. "The Drell....."

*SPEAK NOT OF THEM!* the Jaguar spoke beseechingly. All could see the twisting agony now on her face.

"I'm sorry," Spyral replied quickly, reaching to the golden cat.

*no....the apology is mine.* the cat spoke to the angel. *If you have been to their worlds, then you know of my pain.*

"Yes....." the angel trailed off. "Only too well."

*We have hidden from their kind since the Dark Times. They....scattered my kind....We now roam the planes, and the space between them. We help those we can. Those whom the dark ones have brought their fetid evil to, as they once did my own kind.* She looked evenly at Spyral. *They will come. You know this don't you?*

"I'm not exactly in the position that I once was......" the angel replied. "But I have felt them getting closer. After being so close once...I guess their stink just don't wash off."

*They will come......* the Jaguar let the thought fade away, locking gazes with the angel.

The rest of the 'Scapers had been standing stock still, watching the exchange between the cat and the angel.

"I take it this is something we really need to talk about when this is over?" Sixth asked.

"Just another long story," Spyral said. "Just one more..." he trailed off, breaking his gaze from that of the cats.

"Soooo....What do we do now?" Mouse asked. "Are we gonna get out of here or what?"

Raven-Kat -- “We owe you a great debt.”

Rae begins, adressing the jaguar nervously. "And it hardly feels right to impose on you any further, but under the circumstances, I feel we have no choice."

*I understand. We must leave the pyramid first.*

"I see. Yes, of course. We are grateful to you, more than you can imagine, for the assistances you have already rendered us--"

*We must leave the pyramid NOW.*

"Uh, guys." Artic says nervously. "Company..."

Sixth Sense Dreamer -- The gang looked up at...

The chambermaids and the several Aztec guards who had just entered the room. No one said anything.

The chambermaids looked at the gang, and then at the golden Jaguar. They screamed and fled. The Aztec guards took in the Jaguar, the barracade, and the rope going up the wall into the airshaft. Everything clicked in an instant for them. They lowered their spears and began advancing.

"Thor!" 6th yelled. Thor and Malachi had fallen asleep in the far corner of the room. At 6th's call, Thor leapt up and ran to her. 6th sprinkled some growth powder on his head as she said to the gang, "Get Spyral, and get out, all of you! Thor and I will hold them off." Thor shot up, and roared at the Aztec guards. He advanced, and the guards turned to flee, but more(many more) guards filled the doorway, and they began to advance on the gang again.

"6th, you can't fight them all off alone!" Rae yelled.

"Look, Rae, you can't stay! Spyral's going to have to be carried out,and I think you're the only one of us able to do that. Put Malachi in Spyral's wing, and the jaguar too, if she agrees." 6th said tossing Rae two of the shrinking and growth powders. "There isn't time to argue. I can't blow the door, and they'll swarm us before we all get up that rope. They won't kill me, they need us for sacrifices. So pull up that rope after you. Don't worry about me, I'll get out. What are you waiting for? GO!" 6th yelled and ran to help Thor.

The T-rex swept his tail around, knocking guards right and left. Their spears couldn't pierce his thick hide, and none of the guards seemed willing to kill 6th either. She had free reign to clobber them. She spun left and right, knocking down guards. The combined power of Thor's tail, and 6th's strength were enough to hold the guards off while the others climbed to safety. *I might be a klutz, but at least I can fight* she thought. She grabbed one Aztec by the arm, whirled, and flung him like a ragdoll into the guards poruing into the doorway. She glanced over her shoulder and saw her friends climbing the rope, Spyral holding onto Rae's neck. She sighed, and turned back to the guards.

Just as Rae's foot was disappearing into the shaft, 6th heard *Mistress!* She turned, and saw Thor shrinking.

*What the...* 6th thought, and then realized that Thor must have stayed shrunk too long. He was reverting back to the shape his body had gotten used to.

"Oh FRELL!" 6th yelled and started towards her T-rex. Before she could reach him, something hit the back of her head, and everything went dark.

"oh...frell..." 6th trailed off, as she slumped to the floor. The Aztec High Priest stood behind her, the staff he had hit her with still raised.

"She will not escape her fate, at least." the High Priest said. He turned to the guards. "You men, take her to the cages. Get her lizard too. And you others, find the rest of the sacrifices. They must not escape!" The guards hurried to obey. They dragged 6th away, as one of the guards scooped Thor into a bag. He tried to fight them, but at a foot high, there was little he could do.

Mouse2000 -- As all the adventures

except 6th and Thor head up the rope, the soldiers were in the process of taking 6th out to be sacrificed.

They decided to do without the Feast altogether because most of the sacrifices were lost! Arctickat was the last up the rope, but she was practically supporting Mouse, who hasn’t had to do this rope climb dren since grade school - and didn’t like it then!

As they reach the air shaft, Rae yells to clear off the rope. Once the group have all transferred to the sides of the air vent, KaraS cut the rope from where she was and thus prevented the soldiers from following them. Rae, carrying Spyral, was in the lead, but straining under the big angels’ weight. “Had to keep all that dren in your wing!” she mutters. KaraS, Mouse, and Arctickat were following, but climbing steadily.

As Mouse climbed up the side of the shaft, she saw that the same type of markings that were on the wall in the chamber. “Guys, look for another crystal!” She suggested. “No deal! What happens if we get transported somewhere else, and find another demon?” Kara exclaimed. “Well, we have to find a way in to that sacrificial chamber - we’re not leaving 6th and Thor!” Arctickat stated. Spyral lifted his head and mumbled incoherently.

“Hey, check this out! it’s a tunnel off this shaft. Let’s see where this takes us.” Rae said. She climbed up into the tunnel and slid Spyral to the ground. He seemed to be waking. Rae shook him gently as the rest of the group climbed into the tunnel. Spyral shook his head, and tried to get up, but the confines of the tunnel would only allow him to crawl. “Lets get to the end of this tunnel and maybe along the way we might see something that could direct us to where they’re holding 6th and Thor!” Mouse exclaimed. *Like a big sign saying “6th and Thor are here” and “You are here” would be nice* she thought.

Raven-Kat -- “We can’t ALL go...”

"Someone needs to stay with Spyral." Rae sighs. "Okay. All of you stay here. I'm less likely to be noticed by myself. I have a little experience skulking about in the shadows, plus I can fight. This is a safe place," Rae begins pulling weapons out of her bag. "That you can hold until I get back."

"Rae, don't do this." Kara says.
"Yeah, you'll be killed."

"You guys don't have much faith in the old girl. Look, it's really quite logical..."

"She's right." Sweetiepie cuts in.

"Thanks, man. Take care of everything. Guys, take care of Spyral. If things go bad, cut and run. 6th and I can always find another way out." Rae quickly hugs everybody then begins slithering down the tunnel...

Mouse2000 -- “What happened to

there's no 'I' in team!" Spyral said as he levered himself up. The jaguar poked her feline head out of his wing, licked him gently on his shoulder with her tongue and her thoughts came through.

*You must stay together if you want to defeat the Aztecs. I have given you the strength to continue your journey.*

The group moved down the tunnel to join up with Rae.

Ravenl-Kat -- “There isn’t an ‘I’ in Team,

Spyral." Rae calls over her shoulder. "And obviously no common sense, either." Rae comes to a dead stop in the tunnel, squirms around facing the oposite direction and stares Spyral in the eye. "Good to have you on your feet again."

(((((((((((((Spyral)))))))))))))

"Or knees, as the case may be. Okay, if we're going to rescue 6th as a TEAM, we're going to need a plan. One that, I'm guessing, isn't going to involve a lot of stealth. So, what's the plan? You guys do have a plan, righT? It's not too late for me to go on alone, you know..."

KaraS -- First aid

"Look, we've got time." Sweetiepie said to the others. "The Aztecs perform their sacrifices at dawn and it's just midnight now. So that gives us a good six hours to find Sixth and free her."

"But they will surely have her under guard." KaraS said. "And I doubt they'll stop looking for us either."

"The sacrifice will be performed on top of the pyramid." Sweetiepie reminded the 'Scapers. "If worse comes to worse, I can fly down, sprinkle shrinking powder on Sixth before they kill her, grab her and fly away."

"That sounds very dangerous." artickat said. "They will knock you out of the sky with those spears before you can get away."

"I'll take that chance to save Sixth." the parrot said.

"Let's see if we can find another way first." Mouse said.

She and artic were half carrying, half dragging the semiconcious angel down the air shaft. The tunnel was very short and everyone but Mouse was hunched over in a most uncomfortable position.

"Unnnnn...." Spyral moaned.

"Stop artic," Mouse said. "He's bleeding from his wing. Do any of you have anything we can use as a bandage?"

Everyone searched around their persons but didn't find anything useful.

"I bet he's got first aid stuff in his wing." Kara said. "Sweetiepie, could you fly in there and find some?"

"AWK! No way! I'm not ever going back in there again no matter what the reason."

"Why you little..." artic started but KaraS cut her off.

"Fine." Kara said. "The jaguar's in there. Perhaps she can find something useful. Oh jaguar..." she said into the wing. "Can you find some first aid equipment in there?"

Meanwhile, Mouse was examining the angel's injuries. There was a chunk bitten out of his wing and blood was dripping freely from the wound. His neck, while no longer crushed, was covered with bruises, scratches, cuts and some deep puncture wounds. Talking or swallowing anything was going to be painful for a while. And there was a large lump on the back of his head where the demon had cracked it against the stone floor. Mouse looked in his eyes to see if he had a concussion but didn't know what to look for. Spyral was concious but he didn't seem to know where he was or what was going on. He certainly couldn't walk by himself much less hide or fight.

"He looks bad guys." she said. "Any luck with the first aid stuff?"

The golden jaguar poked her head out of Spyral's wing, a first aid kit between her teeth.

"Thanks Cat." Kara said, retrieving the box and looking through it.

"Here are some bandages Mouse. And antiseptic cream. Who knows what germs that demon had on it's claws?"

"Rae's getting really far ahead." Sweetiepie said. "I'm going to catch up with her and make sure she dosn't get into any new trouble."

The parrot flew off down the passage.

Sweetiepie Parrot -- ....and bumped right into Rae who....

was coming back down the passageway toward them.

"Spyral was right." she said. "There's no I in team. We shouldn't split up like this. It's dangerous."

"We don't have a lot of choice." the parrot informed her. "Spyral's colapsed again. The others are bandaging his wounds and stuff. It'll be a while. Let's scout out the passageway ahead."

"Ok." Raven_Kat said.

She crept up the low, narrow hallway with the small bird on her shoulder. They heard noises from ahead. Soundlessly, Rae glided forwrd to investigate them.

They came to section of the wall with grates in it. Peeking through the grates they saw a grand feasting hall with a great feast in progress. There was a long table covered with elaborately prepared food. There were many guests, mostly priests by their dress. There were guards stationed every few feet along the wall.

At the head of the table were some familliar people. The Grand High Priest, dressed to the nines, sat in the place of honor. Next to him, tied to her chair, was Sixth. Sixth was dressed in some sort of ceremonial robe with flowers bound in her hair. She did not look happy. In fact, she looked furious. Every few minutes, a servant would offer her a bite of the elaborate food on her plate but she would close her mouth and refuse to eat it.

In a little golden cage, not unlike the one in which the jaguar had been imprisoned, stood Thor. The tiny T-rex lashed his tail and tried to bite anyone foolish enough to stick their hand close enough but, caged like a canary, there was nothing he could do for his mistress.

"I don't think there's anything we can do for her right now." Rae said. "She's too well guarded."

"But this feast can't last forever." Sweetiepie said. "They'll want to sleep before the ceremony tomorrow morning."

"Are you sure the feast won't last until dawn?" Rae asked.

"No." the parrot sighed. "I'm not. But we can hope. Anyway, it dosn't look like it's ending soon. Let's go back to the others and tell them what we found."

"Good idea." Rae said. "Maybe Spyral will be ready to travel by the time we get back."

Sweetiepie didn't look hopeful, but silently they turned and retraced their steps.

Mouse2000 -- As Rae and Sweetie

made their way back up the tunnel, Mouse remembered her training. "I can't believe I forgot....been out of touch too long..." she trailed off. She rummaged around in Spyral's wing and found the flashlight. She told Spyral to look at her and blinked for a minute. *Nice green eyes, for an angel* she thought, then cleard the thoughts from her head and quickly flashed the light in each eye. The pupils each contracted and then dilated in sync. "Good news, no concussion" she diagnosed. She checked out the angels' wounds and bound them well, using her medical knowledge from years in clinical labs and hospitals.

Then the jaguar stuck her head out again. *I gave him strength for his journey* the jaguar reiterated. "Well, not enough, apparently." Arctic replied. "He's still all bruised and bleeding." *He can heal his wounds if he would like - the strength I gave him is just a more direct way for his natural healing power to be used* she clarified.

Spyral heard the jaguar, and concentrated. A small light appeared in the vicinity of his stomach, and radiated brightly. The light very slowly grew in intensity and as it reached his bruised shoulder, wing, and head, it repaired the damage. Soon he was glowing brightly and the radiance was something to behold. Just as mysteriously as it grew, the radiance diminished. Spyral tried to flex his wing and move his head, and he gave the group a thumbs-up. He patted his wing and thanked the Jaguar.

Spyral -- A little look around..

Turning to Mouse and placing his arms about her, Spyral hugged his friend heartily. "Thanks Darlin," the angel said. "Always keeping me in mind," the angel winked at her.

"Even angels need a guardian," Mouse smiled back.

"Are you two quite thru?" SweetiePie squawked as he fluttered to the floor of the tunnel.

"What's the situation?" KaraS asked. "How's Sixth?"

"Pissed!" Rae replied nodding her head. "They have her dressed for the ceremony already. But it looks like the feast is gonna end soon. If we're gonna do something, we need to do it soon."

"What about Thor?" Mouse asked.

"Going ballistic a couple of feet away from her," Rae said.

"We need to find out where they are gonna place them until they are ready to start the ceremony," Artickat said.

"Wherever they take them, it's sure to be heavily guarded," Spyral said. "We need information, before we can do much of anything else."

"Sweetie," Rae turned to the parrot, "we need a recon. Find out where they take Sixth and Thor, and check out the guard situation." Before the parrot could wing off, she added, "And don't get caught. That's all we need is one more to rescue."

The parrot raised an eyebrow (or what passed for one), "Nice ta know yer always thinking of me featherhead." With that, the parrot winged off down the tunnel.

"Now we wait," KaraS said. "I hate waiting."

Meanwhile, SweetiePie flew from the tunnel entrance to a place atop the great statue of Quetzcoatl that overlooked the entire village. From this point, he witnessed four Aztec guards escort Sixth from her place at the table, at spearpoint. The cage that held the tiny dinosaur was left dangling from a perch beside the main banquet table.

Sweetie watched as Sixth was marched into a large white tower inlaid with golden Aztec symbols. A few minutes passed and the four guards marched back out, taking up positions around the bottom of the tower. Sweetie flew a quick circuit around the tower, noting the lack of any other doors and windows in the tower, only small slits cut at regular intervals into the tower walls. He quickly returned to his previous roost atop the statue of Quetzacoatl.

*One door, and no windows. Only those slits, which must be to light the different levels in the tower. Wonder which level she's in?* the bird wondered. *Maybe I should go in and take a peek. See if I can find her. She may have an idea or two about how to get herself out of there.*

SweetiePie flew toward the tower again, careful to keep the noise of his flight to a minimum, so as not to attract the attention of the guards. He landed atop the sill of one of the slits cut into the white wall of the tower with a soft flutter.

All was gloom as he peered inside. Sweetie noticed that three other slits were cut into the walls at what seemed equal intervals. The soft moonlight that entered however, did little to illuminate the tower room.

*Damn. To frellin dark to see anything.* He fluttered carefully into the darkness, careful to be wary of the floor that he could not see underneath him. Dropping just a few feet, Sweetie came to rest on the wooden floor of one of the towers levels. Complete darkness surrounded him, except for the small sliver of moonlight cutting in from the window slits.

Carefully, the bird padded along the floor, searching for a way to get to the other levels of the tower.....

Sixth Sense Dreamer -- “Sweetipie?”  he heard someone whisper

"Wha---?" Sweetiepie peered into the darkness. "6th? is that you?" Two arms reached out and grabbed him. Before he had time to sqawk, 6th was hugging him tightly.

"What are you doing here?" she whispered.

"Oh, like those ladies would leave without you." Sweetiepie huffed, trying to sound like he didn't care. "I'm recon. How lucky am I to find you on the first try? SO...???" he eyed 6th.

"So what?" she asked.

"Do you have a plan?"

"Oh, I have lots of plans...None of them will work tho. I could pick the lock on the door...heck, I could probably just break it, it's so flimsey. But I already tried shoving the door off it's hinges. Couldn't do it. I think the strength Apu gave me wore off. But there's no way to get the guards, even if I did get out. How many were down there? did you see?" 6th asked.

"Four" said Sweetie.

"Hmmmmm...I doubt I could get them all, without one of them raising an alarm. And if the gang stormed in here, some of them could really get hurt. Honestly I don't know what to do. I didn't figure on getting captured. And I think they're planning on either eating Thor, or keeping him as a pet. Whatever the plan, it has to include saving him too. And I can't even get myself out of this cage. You guys really should have left."

"Oh quit the martyr act. We couldn't leave you." Sweetiepie snapped.

"We?" 6th smiled at the parrot. He coughed, and cleared his throat.

"How are the gang? Spyral? Everyone ok?" 6th asked. Sweetiepie nodded. "The jaguar healed Spyral. They're all waiting in the airshaft for me."

"well, I can see three options." 6th said counting them off on her fingers, "One, You guys get out of here. Two, someone figure a way to get Thor and me out without raising an alarm, which would be pretty tough. Three, see if Spyral or Rae has a cell phone on them. If they do, bring it to me. I can try calling in the big guns."

"You mean the guys..." Sweetiepie said slowly, thinking. He looked up at 6th. "Do you think they'd come save you?"

6th looked away for a second. "I...don't know, honestly...but I know they could cause a big enough distraction, so I could get out...and at the very least, I might be able to get some advice...I'm out of ideas otherwise, Sweetie." she sighed "but I'm glad we helped your jaguar friend. I must apologize Sweetie. I really was convinced you...uh...weren't a "good guy" there for a while."

"Please, no mush!" Sweetiepie squirmed. 6th patted his head.
"You ought to go back to Rae now, and tell her that other than what I told you, I have no idea what to do. The cell phone was my best idea, and I hesitate to do that. The guys would probably be pissed if they had to leave their Raven-haired goddess to come save my sorry butt."

"I'll go talk to Rae." Sweetiepie said, flying to the window. He perched on the window ledge and turned back to 6th. "Don't...uh...worry..." he said and winged it back to where the gang was hiding. he landed in front of Rae.

"Well? Did you find her?" Rae asked.

Sweetiepie Parrot -- “Yeah, I found her.”

Sweetiepie said. "But busting her out of there is gonna be a bitch."

Sweetiepie hastily explained Sixth's situation to the others.

"Well," KaraS said. "Calling the guys is a long shot at best. They haven't gotten up off their sorry butts to come rescue us so far."

"There's always plan A" Sweetiepie said. "I fly up during the ceremony and shrink her and carry her off before they can cut her heart out. But that dosn't do much to save Thor."

"Let's keep thinking." Mouse said. "Perhaps one of us can come up with something better before dawn. Which is no longer so far away..."

Raven-Kat -- Sweetiepie tells Rae

what 6th told him. "Okay, makes sense. I hesitate to call in the guys though, simply because we need to keep this as simple as possible. We've already poluted the time-stream pretty heavily."

"We?" Sweetiepie scoffs. "You're the one who warned them about the Spanish.

"Yeah, and I also warned them that if they didn't listen to me, the effects would be disasterous. Which they will be. Okay, here's my thoughts on rescuing 6th. We can use Thor to keep us in communication with her at all times."

"Can his voice reach that far?" Mouse asked.

"It can to me." Rae said simply. "Look, here's what we need to do. Two groups, those who can fight and those who can't. Those who can't are going to be the ones to rescue 6th."

"That's insane!" Kara protested.

"Those who can are going to create a diversion. The Aztecs will think we're trying to rescue 6th, which will give you time to do so. Then we all rondevous somewhere else. Sound good?"

Mouse2000 -- Count me in

to whichever group you need me in. I can fight, and I can rescue. I have been know to inflict some damage after being tickled...

Raven-Kat -- “Mouse you can be in the

fighting group. We'll need as imposing a force as possible to make it believable. We can station Sweetipie on your shoulder. Sweetipie, you don't mind tickling Mouse, do you?"

"Be my pleasure." Sweetipie assures them.

"Okay... Kara, artic, Spyral? Which of you can fight best?"

Raven-Kat -- Meanwhile...

6th is yelling at the Aztecs, who are dressing her for the sacrifice: "Enjoying yourselves? Get OUT of there! Ohhh, that tickles!" 6th is very ticklish, guys. Now you know. As an Aztec is putting the finishing touches on her costume, she shouts in her most imposing voice: "Do you think you could do that with my foot shoved up your @$$?"

*You're right, 6th, that does sound kind of strange coming from you*

Mouse2000 -- “Oh, I think I’ve got a plan.”

Mouse whispers to Rae. “From what I remember of my history, the sacrifice is lead up the stairs to the Chak-mol which they are seated on, then the leader cuts open their chest, pulls the heart out, then throws the body down the steps. My plan is: Sweetie takes the shrinking powder and holds the bag in his talons. We wait until 6th is up there on the pyramid ledge, then he flies over the leader, drops the powder on HIM, and we watch the show.”

Mouse turns to Spyral, Kara, Arctic, and Sweetie. “We can all get out of the tunnel, climb up and out of the pyramid, and hide on the opposite side of the pyramid until before dawn. Then when Sweetie drops the powder, we can show up on top of the pyramid as the leader is shrinking. I personally think that the Aztecs will be so shocked by the sight of their leader shrinking away that they won’t want to anger 6th any more. She can shout something mystical when she sees Sweetie, so it will appear to them that she caused him to shrink and that should do it for them. In any case, we will be waiting above them to have the high ground, so to speak. Any fighting that has to be done will be to our advantage, as we could just push them off as they come up the pyramid.”

“What do you think? Or any better ideas?”

Raven-Kat -- “Great plan, Mouse!”

"Can't wait to see 6th yelling Klatu Baratta Nictu in her best pissed-off-diety voice. Almost wish I was up there instead. Let's go, people."

Sweetiepie Parrot -- Oi vey!

"Well, I still think I should drop the shrinking powder on Sixth, but if that's the plan..." Sweetiepie trailed off. "Ok, I guess I can go with this. But you guys better be ready when I drop the shrinking powder. And what about Thor?"

Raven-Kat -- Thor,

"Growing powder, Sweetiepie."

"But he'll shrink back down right away!"

"Did you see the flimsy cage he was in? He only needs a second to break out."

KaraS -- Quietly, the gang climbed....
KaraS

up the rope, which was still hanging in the air shaft.

"We still don't know who hung this thing up here." KaraS said. "I wonder who did it and why?"

"Who cares." said Raven_Kat. "It's useful, that's all that counts right now."

"There's something to be said for being in an adventure movie." Kara observed. "I could never climb up a rope like this back home."

Spyral, who was in the lead, paused as he reach the top of the shaft and looked around carefully. The pre-dawn air was chilly and the wind was keen on top of the pyramid. Spyral took a deep breath. He had really thought he was going to die back down there in the stuffy interior of the pyramid, his soul claimed as a prize by a demon. Wouldn't THAT have been embarassing, not to mention painful. But here he was alive. The sun was going to rise soon, and he would be here to see it. The trick would be living long enough to see it set again and to make sure that all of his friends did too.

Spyral finished his inspection of the view and climbed up, out of the shaft. Trying to stay as close to the wall as possible he reached back in to pull Mouse out with him. Soon they were all crouching on the side of the pyramid.

"I think we forgot something guys." artickat said. "There's no cover on top of the pyramid. Where are we going to hide?"

Sweetiepie Parrot -- The parrot and the dinosaur

Sweetiepie flew silently back down the airshaft to the place that overlooked the feasting hall. Inside the hall, the servants were still cleaning up after the great feast and guards still lined the walls.

*This isn't going to be easy.* the little parrot thought to himself.

Thor's cage was hung from a chain in the ceiling next to a large golden throne. The little dinosaur still paced from one side of the tiny cage to the other, about five steps, and growled to himself.

Sweetiepie squeezed himself through the grating, a tight fit, and fluttered down to the back of the throne.

"Psst, hey dino breath." he whispered. "You ready to blow this taco stand?"

*I am.* the dinosaur telepathed. *How will you free me?*

"With growing powder." the parrot breathed. "You'll grow right out of your cage. When you shrink back down again I'll carry you up to that grating in the ceiling. Squeeze through and we'll go join the others. Then we can rescue Sixth at sunrise."

*That will make a lot of commotion.* the T-Rex thought. *Will that not alert the Aztecs that you are still here?*

"How else can I get you out?" Sweetiepie asked.

*Use the key?* the dinosaur asked.

"Well where IS the frelling key?" Sweetiepie growled.

*Hanging on the throne.*

Quickly, Sweetiepie retrieved the key and used it to open the golden cage. The tiny dinosaur dropped to the ground. Sweetiepie relocked the cage and replaced the key on the throne, just to confuse the Aztecs. Then he flew to the floor to find the dinosaur. The problem was that while Thor was now very small, he was still too large for the small parrot to carry. Sweetiepie tried but he couldn't get the T-Rex off the ground.

"This ain't workin' pal." he huffed. "You're gonna have to find your own way out. I HAVE to be up top soon to help rescue Sixth. No one else can drop the shrinking powder on the High Priest."

*Please go.* Thor thought at him. *Rescue the Mistress. I will be fine.*

"Good luck pal." Sweetiepie said as he winged his way back up to the air vent.

Spyral -- Preparing for battle

Looking around to make sure no Aztec soldiers were in a close enough proximtiy to hear what he was about to do, Spyral drew out his conelike archangels sword. Jamming it toward the stone surface of the pyramid, the sword slid into the stone like a hot knife thru butter. Dragging the blade in an arch, the sword seemed to vaporize the very stone as it moved. Soon, the angel had carved a small trench in the outer stone wall of the pyramid.

"Cover," Spyral pronounced, indicating the trench.

The 'Scapers dropped into the small trench, which was just big enough for them all to fit into.

Rummaging in his wing again, the angel produced half a dozen of the molatav cocktails that he had procured from the pirate ship so long ago. He handed a few around.

"They start coming up the pyramid, these oughta discourage them a bit," he said. He looked at the others with a grin. "Hope your parents never taught you Not to play with fire."

At that moment, Sweetie emerged from the vent shaft, and fluttered to the edge of the trench, breathless with exertion.

"I got...Thor out, but I....I had to...to...leave him.....Couldn't carry him..." the bird puffed. "Someone'll hafta go...go back for him."

"Sun'll be up soon," Mouse said.

"Maybe in the ruckus, they will be to distracted to notice him," KaraS said.

"We can't leave him behind," Spyral said. "Sixth'd never forgive us."

Raven-Kat -- We can’t leave him

"Spyral's right. 6th would never forgive us. Where in the pyramid is he? We can blow a wall. I still have some C4 left, Sweetie could plant it. We could use that as a diversion, too. The more chaos we can create, the better chance we have of getting out in one piece. What do you guys think?"

Sweetiepie Parrot -- “You want me to WHAT?”

"Plant explosives? Are you CRAZY?" Sweetiepie screeched.

"Shhhh." Spyral said. "Quiet! Do you want to get us caught?"

"I can't plant explosives." Sweetiepie hissed, quietly. "I'm a parrot. I don't have the manual dexterity. And some genius stuck me in his wing and broke three of my toes."

"Besides." the parrot added. "It's almost dawn. I have to be HERE. The plan depends on me."

"Someone else will have to go back." Raven_Kat said.

"But who?" Mouse said.

*It will be I.* There was a rustling from Spyral's wing and the golden jaguar sprang out. *I will go back for your friend.*

"The hell you will." Sweetiepie said. "After all we've been through to free you you're not going back in there to get captured again."

*I will not be caught.*

With that the jaguar vanished back down the air vent.

But no one had time to argue with her. The morning star was rising and false dawn was starting to light the eastern sky. Down at the base of the pyramid the people were beginning to arrive to witness the ceremony.

"How are we going to get out of here after we rescue Sixth?" artickat asked. "We're in the middle of a city. We can't just stroll out."

Meanwhile...

In a clearing out side the city, one of HIS employees waited. The bug he had planted outside of the airshaft when he installed the rope picked up the 'Scaper's conversation perfectly. How WERE they going to get out of there? he wondered. Well, the employee had a plan. HE would not be pleased if the 'Scapers came to any harm. So the employee was going to give them a little help. He walked across the clearing and started to warm up the engine of his helicopter...

Spyral -- Something in the air.....

The Golden Jaguar reached the end of the ventilation shaft. After checking to make sure the room was free of Aztec guards, she dropped silently to the floor of the chamber and padded softly to the doorway. Carefully winding her way thru the passages of the pyramid, she made her way to the main entrance of the pyramid.

She carefully peered out from the shadow of the doorway, mindful of not being seen by guard or passerby. She needn't havd worried though, for as dawn was breaking, the villagers had made their way from the village center to the base of the sacrificial mound to witness the sacrifice to Quetzacoatl.

Slowly slinking from her place in the shadows, the Jaguar made her way across the village square, towards the table where the nights feasting had taken place. She approached the hanging cage that had once held Thor, to catch his scent.

*HHMMMM?!?* the Jaguar quickly spun in place, her ears pricking forward as her nose caught a new scent on the shallow wind coming from beyond the southern jungle. A deep tangy smell of something...dangerous. Something not native of this area, or time for that matter. Something....oily, dirty.... mechanistic....Dangerous!

*You....You have come back for me?* came Thors voice from behind.

The Jaguar quickly spun back to face the T-rex. *Yes! But now we must hurry back! Our friends are in danger! Something....something is coming!* She looked back towards the jungle as the scent seemed to grow stronger on the wind. *Something Bad!* Looking back to Thor, *We must hurry! We must reach them before the ceremony can begin!*

*We shall never make it back in time. Not both of us. You shall have to leave me!* Thor said.

*No! I can get us back...both of us. It will take most of my strength. Still weak after my captivity. But I believe I can get the two of us thru.* Strain evident on the Jaguars face.

*Of what do you speak?* Thor asked.

*Members of my species have the ability to pass between the panels of the dimensional walls. Moving from one point in the universe to another in little more than an instant. The strain will be great, for the two of us....but I think we can make it* the Jaguar said.

*You Think?* Thor asked uneasily.

*You will have to climb onto my back. Dig in your claws, and don't be afraid. You will not harm me. Go on.* the Jaguar urged.

Thor awkwardly climbed onto the Jaguars back and gripped as tight as he dare to her back. The Jaguar gave no hint that she was in any pain from the tips of his claws.

*Ready?* she asked.

*I believe so.* Thor replied a bit uneasily.

The Jaguar seemed to stiffen, her body beginning to take on a more metallic sheen, as if she was reverting to a solid metal state. The air in front of the two began to haze. Then swirl into a small pool that grew outward until it was about two feet thru the radius. The Jaguars body then softened a bit. She turned her head back a bit to Thor. *Hold on!* she said, then turned back and leapt into the swirling maelstrom, which closed immediately behind them.

Sixth Sense Dreamer -- 6th opened her eyes at the sound....

of the guards coming to her door. She hadn't heard back from the gang at all. She hadn't slept all night, but had tried to rest anyway, to save her strength.

The door creaked open and several priests and at least a dozen guards stood looking at her. One of the priests motioned to her to come with them.

"Not on your life!" she said standing up, and making a rather obscene gesture with her finger. The guards and priests all looked at each other and then smiing, made the same gesture back to 6th. They apparently thought she was trying to communicate something to them.

"Don't you guys understand ANYTHING?" 6th yelled at them. She backed up as the priests advanced on her, pulling her away from the wall. She slapped at their hands, and struggled a bit, but the priests did nothing but try to give her reassuring looks.

6th sighed. She couldn't believe it had come down to this. *We're all supposed to be home right now, relaxing, hanging out...I'm not supposed to be getting sacrificed today! Or any other freaking day for that matter!* she thought.

She gave up the struggle, and went along with the priests. She didn't know if the gang had left or not, but she was going to be as brave about getting sacrificed as she could.

The priests led the way as 6th, surrounded by guards, was led out of the tower. They all walked out into the morning. The sun had not come up yet, but the brightening on the horizon announced it would soon be here. 6th squinted her eyes and looked around as she was marched towards the temple. It seemed that the entire town had assembled already, the crowd so thick that more guards had to come down off the base of the pyramid to clear a path for 6th and the priests. 6th did not see any sign of her friends, and she didn't know whether to be happy they escaped or terrified that she was about to die. So she decided to be how she usually was, cheerfully sarcastic.

"Oh, gee. Did all these people come out to see little old me get my heart cut out?" she announced loudly, smiling her best Cheshire Cat smile. "Why, what a sick bunch of puppies you are! Come see the chick get her heart cut out while she's still alive! Fun for the whole family! Bring your friends! Bring the kids! Perfect for that romantic date you've been planning! And couldn't you have given me something more spectacular to wear? I mean, geez, it's my last day here, and you've got me in this white 'thing'! I mean you can practically see right through it!"

They reached the bottom of the steps, and 6th looked up and up and up to the top, where she could barely make out the high priest waiting for her. 6th looked at one of the priests, and pointing upwards, she said, "Do you mean I have to CLIMB up those stairs? All of them? Hey, is that any way to treat a gift from the gods? Uh-uh, nope, no way. I'm not walking up that. You're going to carry me up, or I ain't going!" the priests looked at her, and one took her hand, pullling her towards the steps. 6th jerked her hand away. "NO! Look, let me show you..." she walked to one of the priests and looked him directly in the eye. He tried to look away, but 6th grabbed him by the chin and made him look at her. "You." she said pointing at him, and then the other priests. Then she mimed picking something up and carrying it. "carry." then she pointed to herself. "me. Got it?" the priests looked at each other and then one of them snapped his fingers. Several guards stepped up, and the priest spoke rapidly to them. They hurried off, and the priest smiled at 6th. No one made a move to touch her, and she assumed that the gurads had been sent off for a chair. Sure enough, they came trotting back with a big golden throne, attached to poles.

"Oh, how comfy!" 6th said, seating herself in the chair. The guards hefted the chair up on thier shoulders, and began to slowly walk up the steps.

*By the time we get to the top, at least these guards will be worn out. Maybe I can still figure out a way to get out of this.* 6th thought, and smiled and waved at the crowd below her, shouting insults and cusswords in her friendliest voice. She knew they couldn't understand a word she was saying, and if she couldn't fight her way out, she wasn't about to go out nicely.

Raven-Kat -- “Guys, what are you doing?”

Mouse asks as she sees Rae and Spyral huddling over something talking softly.

"Just one more diversion." Spyral assures Mouse.

"In the spirit of the New Year." Rae adds, holding up a handful of rockets.

"Fireworks?" Kara asks, shaking her head.

"Chaos, baby." Rae says with a laugh. "'Cause I doubt they've EVER seen anything like this before. Illegal in fourty-nine states, but damn pretty to look at."

The others nod in understanding. "Need help?"

"Anybody know how many inches of fuse per minute?" Rae asks brightly.

Mouse2000 -- “Just so we’re clear”

Mouse says. “The sequence will be: 1)Sweetie flies with the powder 2) the fireworks go off, and then Sweetie flies in and dumps the powder 3) we run around the top of the pyramid and get Sixth and 4) we throw the malotov cocktails to cover the sides of the pyramid with flaming liquid. Sound about right? Needless to say, we’re only going to get one chance to do this, so let’s make sure we’re all clear.”

At that moment, a distortion portal appeared in the air near the trench where the assembled group was hiding. Out of it stepped the Golden Jaguar with Thor perched on her back. She stepped out of the portal and right into the trench. Thor jumped off and shook his little scaly head. *That was most interesting* he though.

“Hey, you got him!” Arctic exclaimed. “Good work, Jaguar,” Rae commented, nodding her head. Kara and Spyral rushed over to calm the shaken T-Rex, but all he wanted to know was where his mistress was and what was being done to rescue her. Mouse filled him in on the plan.

“We didn’t talk about an escape route, or what we do once we have Sixth,” said Spyral. Mouse and Rae (the strategists) looked at each other. Each was about to say something when the Golden Jaguar’s thought entered all their heads. *I’ve detected something odd and different in the jungle not far from here.* Then Thor mentioned * I caught a glimpse of the thing, but I cannot describe it well - it looks like nothing I’ve ever seen. *

At this point Sweetie came flying back. “There’s a chopper out there! There’s a chopper out there!” he sang.

“A chopper??!?” the group wondered out loud.

“You wanted an escape route - I think we just found one!” Rae pointed out.

Rae got the details out of Sweetie, and then Mouse put the shrinking powder in a ziploc bag and showed Sweetie how to operate it. “Remember Sweetie, you have to be right on top of the leader when you open this. Try to get it all over him and any other soldiers near Sixth, but not her! We need her to be regular size to find her quickly!” Sweetie did a few practice runs and got it down pat. “You are sure you know the leader?” Mouse asked. “Don’t be stupid - of course! I saw him leading the group a few times - plus I’ll just look for the guy with the knife near Sixth!” Sweetie said in exasperation.

Rae filled in the group with the details about the chopper and they decided that after they had Sixth, they would return to this side of the pyramid, climb down, and run for the chopper, which in a clearing not far from the pyramid. Luckily, they would be running away from the soldiers and towards the chopper all at once. Arctic (the engineer) assured the group that she could get the chopper going, and Rae, Sixth, and Spyral knew how to fly a chopper, so it seemed like everything was set. The fuse length was set, the cocktails were prepared, and Sweetie was ready to go. Kara gave him a hug, and then the rest of the group followed. “We’re depending on you, Sweetie. Make us proud.” Mouse whispered into his ear. “No pressure!” he squawked.

The group heard a horn blow and peeked around the side of the pyramid. They saw Sixth being carried up almost vertically the pyramid. “That’s our Sixth!” Mouse exclaimed. They all chuckled for a minute at her language to the assembled mass, and then got serious.

“Well, time to light this fire!” Spyral shouted. He and Rae lit the fuses on the fireworks and Sweetie took off with his pouch in his talons.

Raven-Kat -- Zippo in hand,

Rae sings, "Come on, baby, light my fire..."

"Ready?" Spyral asks.

"Yeah." everybody says.

"Time to set the night on fire." Rae adds with a nod

Sweetiepie Parrot -- Sweetiepie flew up

and swung around to come in from the east. He wanted to seem to fly right out of the rising sun. He gained height and looked down to spy out the situation. The golden throne was just reaching the top of the pyramid. The soldiers set the throne down and one of them helped Sixth out of it. While that was going on, another of the soldiers crossed to the altar and laid down on it. He opened his tunic up to expose his chest. The Grand High Priest stood above him and waved the sacrificial knife, chanting loudly.

*Well THIS is an unexpected wrinkle.* Sweetiepie thought to himself. *Damn, this is going to throw our timing all off. We all expected Sixth to be sacrificed as soon as she reached the top of the pyramid. I hope the others see what's going on and hold up the fireworks.*

Four of the priests on top of the pyramid grabbed the unfortunate soldier and held him firmly down. Then, with the ease of long practice, the Grand High Priest brought down the knife in a powerful slash and gashed open the soldier's chest. The soldier screamed and twisted, a reflex action. But the priests held him down and the Grand High Priest pulled the edges of the wound apart, reached in and cut out the still beating heart. He held it up for the crowd at the bottom of the pyramid to see and they cheered wildly. Then, as the underpriests rolled the still kicking corpse down the steep sides of the pyramid, the Grand High Priest turned and presented the still beating heart to Sixth. The heart gave one last beat and spurted blood all over the shocked 'Scaper.

Poor Sixth stood there stunned. All her tough bravado drained away as the blood soaked into her clothing and the knowledge that this was about to happen to her ran through her veins like ice water. She felt numbed as a second soldier was moved into place. Again, the Grand High Priest went through his ritual chanting and gestures. Again, he cut open his victim with one practiced stroke and removed the beating heart with another. As he turned to offer her the second heart, Sixth felt all of her strength leave her. She felt dizzy and nauceous. Then her eyes rolled back in her head and she dropped to the floor like a puppet with it's strings cut.

Sweetiepie, watching from on high, swore under his breath.

"Damn! She fainted. We are so frelled. What the Hezmanah are we going to do now?"

Raven-Kat -- The gang is on the move

when the fireworks go off.

"Happy new year." Rae mutters.

"The Scooby gang was here." Mouse added in her best Chricton voice.

"Drenn!" Sweetiepie muttered, circling the pyramid as the first rocket explodes. Maybe the noise and lights will revive 6th. Sweetiepie whispers a prayer and drops the powder...
