Something Magic.... (conc)
Raven Kat -- As the ‘guards’ led them down the hall
Rae looked up at Ragnar with wide eyes and said, "Oh, kind sir, PLEASE don't take me before that biiiig, MEAN wizard..."
"Rae..." Artic laughed. "Stop it! You're ruining the mood."
"Oh, but I'm soooooo scared." Rae said in her best innocent-maiden voice, dragging her feet just a little. "PLEASE, sir guard..."
Shaking his head, Ragnar laughed. "Come on, you!"
JilaCosa -- “IMBECILES!!!!”
Lochinar howled, watching in his scrying bowl as the guards were easily ambushed. Beginning his pacing (at just the right moment for us) he completely misses the exchange of clothing between Ragnar, Drumheller, and the two unconscious guards.
“How do they keep doing this??” He growled. “These outworlders don’t have a clue as to how to use the magic they have. How can they be surviving after all that I have done to them?? I’ve got to think of something quickly.” *And if she harms one hair on Mr. Snuggles she won’t live long enough to see the outside again.* Lochinar snarled to himself as he sat in his throne type chair and thought. “I’ve got to start the spells that will bound us together in marriage. Then when they bring her to me I will have only to say the words and she will be mine.” He rubbed his chin roughly as he spoke to himself. Feeling better with every passing moment, Lochinar goes to his cabinet of charms, herbs, and powders and starts preparing his spells.
Meanwhile, back in the hallways.......
Ragnar and Drum walk the tied up Rae and artic through the halls following artic’s
whispered directions. The others stay half a hallway behind, ducking from doorway to doorway trying to stay out of sight. Saber, not having been enlightened as to what is happening, begins to whine softly.
“Dog!” Jila whispers sharply, “Over here!”
Sabers ears perk up as he realizes that someone else will speak to him. He walks slowly over to Jila, sniffs her, and whines again.
“No, you’re right, I’m not artickat. Not the one with the white fur.” Jila, still walking and hiding, holds her hand out to the dog.
Saber blows air through his mouth and woofs softly.
“Yes, she is very funny. How long have you been with her?”
As the group walks through hallways and rooms, up stairs and down, Saber tells Jila of the adventures that he and “the furred one” have had so far. Snickering to herself, Jila finally whispers “Look, if you don’t stop this I’m going to end up giving us all away with my laughing.”
Saber gives a final woof and a kind of dog snicker and walks quietly the rest of the way
with Jila.
Drumheller -- *Gulp*
Drumheller swallowed hard as he mentally tried to run
through a couple of spells.
*I better not screw this up, this is the BIG on* He
thought to himself.
Drumheller quickly glanced at Ragnar, and Rae, walking
beside him. *Oh man, I hope we're ready for this*
Finally, after what seemed like a life time, ArticKat
directed them to a huge set of double doors. Drumheller
nervously adjusted his newly aquired armor. Even Ragnar
seemed a little anxious!
"O.k. guys," Ragnar whispered, "here we go."
The group started toward the double doors......
Raven Kat -- “Hang on!”
Rae whispers as they approach the door.
"Rae, this is not the time to get un-nerved." Ragnar tells her firmly.
"Do I LOOK unnerved to you?" Rae snaps. "Just, uh, listen. Drum?"
"Yeah?"
"How's your magic working?"
"About like usual." Drum says, frowning. "Why?"
"Can you fight? Without magic?"
"Uh, not really. Why all these questions?"
"Curiosity killed the Raven Kat." Rae mutters, grinning. "Let me know if you start having problems, okay. I have a spell that can boost your powers."
"Oh. Thanks!" Drum smiles and continues down the hall.
"Rae?" Ragnar asks. "Care to share?"
Rae looks at him and whispers. "It occurs to me that our magic may well be completely useless against this guy. And that scares the drenn out of me." Sighing, Rae squares her shoulders and continues towards the door.
RagnarRB -- Actually Rae
"I think our magic will be far more potent against him than we know." Ragnar whispered back.
Rae and the others looked skepticle. "Look at it this way gang, if the magic was useless then he wouldn't fear it so. Besides we have a possible advantage here. If he uses physical resistance you can cast a spell, if he starts casting a spell one of us can poke him in the nose. The trick is to satay free long enough to manage it."
Mouse2000 -- In the corner
Of Lochinar's private bedchamber, there stands a beautiful handmade armoire, made of rare hardwoods and glass, polished to a brilliant hue. In the armoire is Lochinar's private collection of antiquities, magic items and ancient spellbooks. But built into the armoire, in a secret hiding place unknown to anyone but Lochinar and the cabinetmaker (who was disposed of immediately after Lochinar took possession of the armoire) is a small cubbyhole. The cubbyhole is just big enough for the beautiful, stoppered, handblown glass bottle that is nestled protectively inside it. The glass bottle, in it's own right, is beautiful - a rainbow of swirled colors and shapes, glowing from the inside. But the air around the bottle shimmers and dances, silently but clearly proclaiming the powerful nature of whatever is contained in the bottle.
Ever since the Scapers found their way into Lochinar's spire, the air around the bottle seemed to increase in both volitility and brightness, as if it's responding to the good magic it senses.
Drumheller -- “I think you’ve got a point there....
Ragnar." Drumheller whispered as they approached the door.
"If he wasn't scared of the magic of others, why would he
need to steal it from everybody?"
"Exactly." Ragnar replied.
Drumheller smiled, visibily feeling better about the whole
situation. With a quick glance behind them, trying to see
if the others were still with them, he whispered, "Well, I
guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Shall we?"
Raven Kat -- “You could be right.”
Rae conceeds. "Myself, I like to be prepeared for EVERY possible contingency. In any event, we'll soon know for sure... One way or another." Squaring her shoulders, Rae nods to Ragnar and Drum. "Right, then. Let's get this over with."
Ragnar reaches for the door.
"Hang on." Rae says.
"What now?" Ragnar asks.
Rae plants a kiss squarely on his mouth. "NOW we can go in." she informs him, smiling enigmaticly.
Mouse2000 -- As Artic, Drum, Rae, and a somewhat
amused Ragnar start through the double doors, Sixth, Mouse, Kara, Spyral, Ghost, IQ, Jila, and Kaybe split into two groups (did I miss anyone??). IQ, Kaybe, Ghost and Sixth went to the left, as Mouse, Spyral, Kara and Jila took off around the right. Luckily the corridors surrounded the throne room, with exits on both sides.
As IQ and Spyral started making whining noises about how no one kissed THEM for luck, Kaybe planted one on IQ and Jila did the honors for Spyral. The guys, happy and more confident now, were ready for action.
Kara and IQ had been huddling before spliting up, and Mouse assumed they were discussing spell strategies. Mouse still had her silver sword, Kara carried her staff o' destruction, Spyral had his bow, Sixth had her mace, and the others carried whatever The Major had provided. In short, they were ready for one hezmana of a battle. But this would all be in vain if Lochinar's magic was more powerful than Rae and Drum's.
Mouse couldn't help the feeling that this wasn't going to be good, and confided her fears in Spyral. He assured her (with his eternal optimism) that they were going to be just fine. Mouse tried hard to believe him, but was distracted when she felt an urgency to go farther down the corridor, into the depths of the castle. She shook off the feeling and tried to focus, but it was back, and stronger this time. She whispered to Kara, "Do you feel that...something?" "No time for vagueness, Mouse," Kara whispered back. "Let's stay focused." she replied. Mouse had no time to think, as Rae and Artic were roughly pushed through the doors and the scene began.
Raven Kat -- “Well, I guess it’s now or never.”
Nodding, Ragnar pushes open the door. On cue, Rae and Artic begin loudly protesting their condition.
"Oh, let me go, you horrible men!"
"How dare you treat your Lord's future wife in this manner!"
"I said HANDS OFF!"
"LET ME GO!!!"
and so on...
Ragnar and Drum do thier best not to laugh as they lead the 'captives' into the room where Lochinar sits waiting.
"Ah, you managed to recapture her. Splendid!" Lochinar says. "And the little sorceress."
"LITTLE! I'LL SHOW YOU LITTLE!!"
"SHUT UP!" Ragnar snarls at her.
"You shut up!" Rae suggests loudly.
"Gag her." Lochinar orders.
"Before you do that, Lochinar," Rae says mildly. "I have something to say to you."
"Unless it is a request for your life, I have no desire to hear it."
"It IS a request." Rae says.
"Then proceed."
"When you look back on this day, please remember me."
Lochinar raises an eyebrow. "I beg your pardon?"
"Remember that I stood up to you, and that I did this." Rae spits into the wizards face.
"HOW DARE YOU?" Lochinar howls.
"Give back what you have stolen, Lochinar." Rae commands. "And you may yet live to see another sun-rise. Otherwise, you shall perish in flames."
"IMPUDENT WHORE!!!"
Rae smiles at him. "You FEAR us, Lochinar. Why? Is it because of the prophecy?" Lochinar's eyes widen and Rae knows that she's on the right track. "We couldn't defeat you before, but this time we shall. Isn't THAT how the prophecy goes?"
"You will die as you did the first time you stood against me!" Lochinar growls. Gesturing to Ragnar, he orders, "Kill her."
Ragnar hesitates for a spilt second, until he sees Rae smile and wink. "You cannot harm me. I have seen to that." Rae announces, and the message seems meant more for Ragnar than Lochinar.
Ragnar slowly draws his knife and approaches Rae...
Viridian -- No one ever notices the servants.....
especially not the poor drudges who had been enslaved to work for Lochinar. A small group of them waited in the shadows, watching the adventurers as they split into two groups. The sevants gestured silently to each other, agruing without words as to what they should do. Finally, one of them shook her head and threw off the clinging, fearful grasps of the others. She stepped from the shadows and silently followed Mouse, Spyral, Kara and Jila.
Mouse stopped dead. She touched Spyral's arm and turned around. "Mouse, we can't stop..." Spyral started to say as he turned to follow Mouse's gaze.
"Oh dear God..." Mouse whispered. Jila and Kara also turned and gasped.
In front of them stood a woman, medium of height, but thin, oh, so painfully thin. She was wringing her small pale hands, the coarse dark fabric of her sleeves falling away to reveal her skinny arms. Her skin was drained of color and health, her dark hair had been roughly cut short and lay limply on her head. Hers eyes were what haunted the group, they were dull pools of grey hollows surrounded by a face that was drawn and worn out.
"Who are you?" Mouse asked.
The woman looked startled at this question and frowned. "I don't know," she replied in a hoarse voice. She cleared her throat as if talking was not something she did very much. "None of us know who we are. HE took who we are." She gestured behind her and for the first time, the Scoobies noticed the other servants, huddled together gazing at them fearfully. All of them looked as wan and as colorless as the woman.
"They would look rather like Chiana if they weren't so sickly looking." Kara commented quietly.
"Is there something you want from us?" Spyral asked impatient to be joining the other Scoobies in battle.
"We know." the woman said.
"What do you know? Look, we don't have--" Spyral was silenced by Mouse's hand on his shoulder.
"There's something down that corridor, isn't there?" she asked.
The woman nodded slowly. "HIS room." She ducked her head, as if expecting a blow. She gripped her hands tightly together.
"I clean his room... all except for one corner... it would mean death..."
There's something in that room...?" Kara asked.
"You must show us." Mouse said. "This is important Spyral! There is something down there! I can feel it!"
The woman took a deep breath and looked back at her fellow servants. They melted quietly back into the shadows. She nodded again.
"Mouse, why don't you and Jila go with her? Kara and I will join the others." Spyral said.
"Okay." She and Jilla followed the woman who moved like a wraith through the dark halls. "What do we call you if you don't know who you are?"
The woman looked back and regarded her with her dull, dark eyes. "No name," she said. "Call me No name."
Mouse2000 -- Ragnar advanced on Rae
Who was very colorfully threatening most of his body parts, his background,
his parents, and his way of life. Drum and Artic had to work very hard not
to laugh, as did Ragnar. But he played it very well and roughly shoved Rae
to her knees, loosening her ropes more as he shoved.
"Try that again, big boy, and you'll be walking funny for a week! Or should
I say FUNNIER!!" Rae ground out through her teeth.
Lochinar yelled, "SILENCE!!" and suprisingly enough, it worked. The room
quieted down. Drum shoved Artic to her knees and Lochinar said to his
right-hand-goon, "Start the spell! Once that one is my wife, they'll have
no more power!"
"Wife?!? WIFE?!?!" the lady in Scarlet shouted from out of nowhere, "What
do you mean WIFE?" She approached Lochinar, who turned a sickly shade and,
unconsciously, took a step back. "I thought all that was just TALK! You
KNOW I am the only possible choice to be your wife!!" The right-hand goon
started mumbling something, and Drum and Rae, seeing possibly their only
chance, started their combined spell. Ragnar looked anxiously at both doors
and hoped the gang would take all the shouting as a signal to get in there
before the dren really hit the fan.
Meanwhile...
The pale, frail woman led Mouse and Jila deep within the castle to
Lochinar's bedroom. Mouse held back a few remarks about his appalling style
because she knew they had to find whatever they were there to find quickly,
but couldn't help wincing at the over-opulence of the room. Black and red
velvet covered almost every surface, and the entire room was covered in
mirrors and ancient weapons. The weapons were interesting, but Mouse didn't
really want this little peek into Lochinar's obviously narcissistic
personality. The woman pointed to the large armoire in the corner of the
room, but would not go near it.
Mouse and Jila approached it, then Jila touched Mouse's arm and said
quietly, "This might not be a good idea. If it is holding something
valuable, it might be booby-trapped or magically protected." Mouse agreed,
but something in the completely submissive pose of the woman who was almost
cowering in the corner of the room near the door led he to believe
otherwise. "You know, if he has everyone so afraid of him here...maybe he
feels safe enough to just put it in the chest without overly protecting it.
If you're THAT sure something's safe, you may not go about really protecting
it." she said. Mouse asked the woman, "Does anyone get near that?" The
woman answered quickly, " Only Roma, and she's allowed to dust once a month,
but he's here with her." "Where is Roma?" Jila asked. "Here..." a little
voice said from the door as another pale, frail woman stepped forward. "Do
you dust in there?" Jila asked her gently. "Yes," the woman answered
hesitantly, and then added, "but he's always there and I usually dust fast!"
"Do you see him say a spell or open it for you or anything?" Mouse asked.
Roma answered, "In the beginning, he did both, but as the years went on and
he increased in power, he didn't want to be bothered. He taught me the
words and how to open it, and now he just brushes his hair or has his tailor
come in while I'm dusting." "Bingo!" Jila said, then again, quietly, "Will
you open it for us?" Roma looked around, and when the other servants near
the door nodded their approval, she also nodded. "You are going to use
whatever is in there to free our people, aren't you" she managed to get out,
terrified. "We're going to give it our best shot," Jila answered, and with
that, Roma started the chant to open the armoire.
Raven Kat -- Rae smiles slyly
as she continues her quiet chant. Something in the balance of magic in the room is not quite right, and she has every intent of using that fact to her advantage. The only problem, of course, lies in the difficulty of casting a spell (especially in concert with another) while attempting to free one's self of rope bonds tied with just enough complexity to be convincing. Too much attention to one or the other, and both are ruined.
Jerking her head at Ragnar, she shifts her eyes to the ropes on her hands as she continues to chant. Nodding in understanding, Ragnar advances on her, knife in hand as Lochinar and Scarlet continue to argue at a gradually increasing volume...
********************************************************
With the cabinet unlocked and the small bottle revealed, most of the others are fairly unimpressed.
"That's it?" Sixth asks.
"My god." Mouse whispers. "Can't you feel the POWER?"
Roma nods. "It is the power he uses to hold us captive."
With a little cry, No Name rushes forward, grabs up the bottle and shatters it against the wall.
"What have you done?" Roma cries.
********************************************************
Rae continues her chanting as Ragnar slices through her bonds. Lochinar and Scarlet are so busy arguing (Rae is reminded of her parents arguing politics) that they completely fail to notice.
Just as the spell reaches completion and Rae and Drum ready themselves to release the gathered energy, they become aware of another force in the room, infinitely more powerful than either of them. Drum, still guilty about turning Kara into a frog, refuses to be distracted by it. Rae however IS distracted by it, and releases her energy a moment too soon and in precisely the wrong way...
*********************************************************
In Lochinar's bed-chamber, a sonic boom, followed by a massive earth-quake throws the entire group to the floor.
"We are so dead..." Roma whispers before fleeing.
Drumheller -- As soon as the spell.....
was completed, Drumheller knew something was wrong.
Drumheller relesed the spell energy, and there was a clap
of thunder as both Lochinar and the woman where thrown back
into the throne, otherwise unhurt.
"Oh no," Drumheller mumbled, "we're in trouble now!"
"YOU FOOLS!", Lochinar shouted as he regained his footing.
"You DARE to attemp a magical attack on ME!"
Lochinar raised his arms, and began to chant a spell of his own.
Ragnar, thinking this was his chance, drew his sword. With a loud battle cry, he charged Lochinar, hoping to disrupt his spell.
Artic grabbed the dagger from Drumheller's belt as he began
another spell, and ran to help Ragnar....
Raven Kat -- “Oops”
Is all Rae can think to say at the moment, and casting another spell is definitely out of the question for a while. Looking down at her scorched finger-tips, she decides to fight instead. She reaches for her magical staff and is horified to find it broken.
Instead, she draws two daggers and rushes into the fray. If she can keep Lochinar distracted enough, Drum might have time to finish his spell
Kaybe0 -- The rest of the group
rushes in at the noise, and quickly drawing their weapons, hurry to the aide of their friends, battling against Lochnar's goons. Seeing more of the feeble servant's gathering at the door, with a look of hope in their eyes, Kay grabs one by the arm, and shouts "Go find our friends, and bring them in here quickly. And the rest of you, help us. We will help you in return. Hurry!"
Viridian -- A tornado of color began to swirl
around Lochinar's room. Mouse and Jila looked up from the floor to see No Name slowly rise to her feet; she was surrounded by the color that stormed about her. The women heard music and people's voices, yelling, crying and singing.
For all that they had to fear at that moment, Jila felt the effervescent touches of joy bubble up within her. This was nature dancing and swooping; she cocked her head to sounds of birds singing, lions roaring and dogs barking. There before her was the color of sea water caught in sunlight and the shadows of mountains, the golden glare of deserts. Jila and Mouse arose and laughed in delight.
No Name reached out and captured one of the colors. It was the deepest blue green of the pine forests. They could hear the pines hissing in the wind and smell the fresh scent.
No Name stared with wide eyes at the hue in her hands, then burst out laughing. The reaction transformed her and Jila and Mouse could suddenly see the way she must have been once, long before her enslavement. "I KNOW WHO I AM!!" she shouted. "Follow me!"
With that, she scooped up some of the malestrom in her arms and ran out the door. Mouse and Jila looked at each other for the merest moment and copied her actions. The magic they held did not harm them, rather it was like being warmed by the sun and kissed by the softest rain all at the same time. They followed the woman past a surprised Spyral and Kara and burst into Lochinar's throne room.
There was no movement and dead silence; then No Name set her colors free and motioned to Jila and Mouse to do the same.
"YES!" Rae whispered, "Something to work with!"
Raven Kat - “YES!”
Rae shouts. "Finally! Something to WORK with! Are we having fun yet?" Rae picks up a handful of the magic and in her hands it coalesces into a small, blue Raven. "Fly!" Rae cries happily. "Spread the word!"
The raven flies out of the window and is gone.
"NOOOO!" Lochinar shouts as he feels the magic escape.
"YESSS!" Rae shouts back. Laughing wildy, she takes up another handful of the magic and begins shaping it into a far less benign spell...
Drumheller -- Feeling Lochinar’s magic
begin to grow weaker, Drumheller broke into a big smile. As
he finished his spell, a bolt of lightning shot from his
finger tips, striking Lochinar in the chest.
Rocked by the blast, Lochinar stumbled back. Still trying to
avoid the onslaught of Ragnar and Artic, he stepped away
from the throne clutching his smoldering chest.
"Hurry Rae, he's still pretty strong!" Drumheller shouted,
trying to think of what to do next.
Just as the rest of the gang rushed into the chamber, a
dozen of Lochinar's goons burst in at the oposite end of the
room.
"Looks like we're gonna have our work cut out for us!"
Spyral said as he drew back his bow....
RagnarRB -- Amidst the turmoil
IQ stood holding the hand of the little boy. Swords flashed, bodies tumbled, magic streaked, and even the husky form of Sabre dashed by snarling and chomping as he empacted with a guard attempting to strike Artic from behind...yet the two remained untouched, as if unseen.
The little boy, as if oblivious to what was happening lead IQ across the floor to where a small shape lay on the floor, dropped and momentarially unnoticed. Casually he reached down and picked it up.
Lockinar shreiked when he saw his teddy lifted from the floor....Enraged he barreled past the viking, as the Scarlett woman launched a jealous attack on Artickat. Slapping Rae aside and bumpinging into Drum he raced towards the child. IQ stepped in the way....
"Teddy!!!!!"
Raven Kat - He PUSHED me!!!!!
"Frelling jerk!" Enraged, Rae grabs Lochinar by the leg as she hits the floor and sinks her teeth into his ankle. Lochinar bellows in pain as he tumbles to the ground.
Keeping a firm grip on him, Rae climbs on top of him, drops her daggers and begins pounding on him with her fists. "Rude-" WHACK "frelling-" WHACK "JERK!" WHACK WHACK. "Shoving-" WHACK-WHACK "me!" WHACK
Mouse2000 -- Mouse, Jila, and Sixth
watched as NoName (who had recently discovered her name, but had yet to reveal it) stood amid the fighting, yet was unharmed and bascially went unnoticed, until she started spinning. She spun around and around, and the magic in the room got caught up and dispersed throughout the room, and out the windows. Mouse ran across the room to see the magic starting to slowly reanimate the barren landscape, and felt a joy inside her that she had missed since she got to this strange land.
Spyral's well-timed bellow of "Get Down NOW Mouse!!" alerted her to the danger still going on and she dropped to the ground just to see two spears go sailing over her head and out the open window. She pulled out her silver sword and tried to engage a palace goon, but he suddenly slowed his approach, looking at the sword in his hand as if it was a foreign object. Mouse noticed the other combatants were also slowing, with the exception of Rae, who was still wailing the tar out of Lochinar.
Viridian -- No Name stopped spinning and collapsed
in a dark heap on the floor. She awoke a few seconds later, to find Artickat sitting in front of her, staring at her intently.
"Hey lady," Artic said, "are you okay?"
The woman sat up slowly and groggily looked around as the fighting subsided. "Yeah, I think so." she rubbed her eyes and still felt dizzy. It had been a long time since she had eaten a meal.
"That was some trick you did with the magic colors," Atric told her.
The woman looked confused. "What trick? I'm afraid I don't remember what I did."
Artic shugged. "Oh well, it worked. Lochinar is toast, especially after Rae is finished with him." She grinned and stuck out her hand. "By the way, I'm Artickat."
The woman shook her hand weakly. It would be a long while bfore her grip got stronger. "My name's Viridian." She eyed the pink taffeta dress that Artic devoutly wished she wasn't wearing. "Like your dress," Viridian said.
Raven Kat -- “Uh, Rae....”
Ragnar says gently. "I think you can stop now..."
Rae looks up in surprise and climbs off of Lochinar. "Battle's over?"
"Well, yeah." Mouse laughs.
"Sorry. Just got a little, ah... distracted."
"Obviously." Ragnar says.
"Right." Rae looks around. "So, uh, question?"
"Yeah, Rae?" Drum asks.
"What do we DO with him?"
JilaCosa -- Lochinar saw his chance.
Rae was dazed and a little confused and everyone was off guard. He'd deal with that damned slave later but now it was time to teach that miserable little witch to beat him around. This was his Castle and he still had some magic left. With all of his remaining strength he summoned up all of the magic he could and aimed it straight at Rae.
**S L A M !!!!!**
Rae flew off her feet with a look of pure horror on her face. The Scarlett Woman shrieked with glee as she launched herself once more at the unsuspecting artickat. The two women rolled across the floor, skirts tangling and ripping in the process.
"I'll kill you before you marry him and ruin My plans!!" The Scarlett Woman shrieked. Grabbing artic by the neck she proceeds to stangle artic without caring the consquences.
Seeing that his own power and fate are at stake, Lochinar sends another ball of power at the Scarlett Woman. Seeing the shimmering ball coming quickly, artic manages to break the Scarlett Woman's hold at the last minute and jump to the side, out of the way. The Scarlett Woman screams in pain as she falls face first to the floor and dies.
Lochinar picks himself slowly off the floor. He twists his neck slowly from one side to the other, grinning as the vertabrae in his neck snap rather loudly. "So you think you have beaten me?" He says to the unbelieving 'Scapers. Lochinar limps his way over to his throne and sits down quickly. "You may have, somehow, found a way to get my slaves to revolt against me and free the magic but, you haven't beaten me yet." Lochinar grins a very evil grin. "Now..... who shall be next for me to take my revenge upon? Guards, bring me the one they call 'artickat'. My revenge shall not include her."
The guards once again take artickat into custody. They bring her wriggling and kicking to stand in front of Lochinar's throne. Lochinar takes her by the chin and looks deep into her eyes.
"You are to be my bride, remember?" he purred as the cold chills race across artic's skin.
Sixth Sense Dreamer -- Artic squirmed away
struggling against the guards who were forcing her closer to Lochinar. The evil magician leered, eyeing Artic in a way that did not bode well for her.
The gang gathered around Rae, who lay half unconscious on the floor. They were surrounded by Lochinar's guards, their weapons drawn.
"Now who should I "punish" first?" Lochinar rubbed his hands together, his gaze flowing across the gang with evil malice. He only noticed the boy holding his teddy bear, as the little one headed for the door.
"NO!!!!" the magician screamed, all thoughts of revenge lost momentarily, as he stood, arms outstretched, power crackling on his fingertips. The boy didn't see or didn't care.
6th saw the guards distracted by Lochinar's yell, and darted through them, not thinking of her own safety. She remembered how the boy had called her Mommy, and something powerful snapped inside her. Reguardless of anything, she couldn't let anything happen to the boy.
Lightening seems to leap from the magician's fingertips, darting for the boy. Then everything seemed to slow down.
6th ran for the boy, who was struggling with the doorknob. The lightening arced towards the child. 6th reached him just ahead of the lightening, scooping him up and rolling to the side. She felt a searing pain in her back as the edge of the lightening glanced across her. The main force of the evil magic smashed into the door, blowing it apart.
6th came to rest against the wall, the boy curled in her arms. He looked up at her.
"Must go outside." he said, holding the bear up to her. Somehow 6th knew, KNEW, that the bear was the key. If they could get it outside, Lochinar's power would crumble.
She looked up to see Lochinar stalking towards her, his power gearing up for another shot. At the same time, she saw Ragnar, Spyral, IQ, and Drum knocking the guards heads together as the girls all supported Rae.
6th leapt to her feet and jumped through the hole which was once the door, the boy in her arms. Lochinar's wail behind her told her that she was definately onto something here. She ignored the red-hot pain in her back as she ran, the boy giggling and pointing the way, one thumb in his mouth, the other arm firmly around the bear.
She yelled behind her as she ran, "Guys get out of here! If I'm right, this place is coming down..."
Lochinar ran after her, screaming obscene things, his despiration clear in his voice. His MUST get that bear back! It could not be allowed outside. Already, too much good magic had been released into the outside world, beginning to restore things to their natural goodness and beauty. If the bear were allowed outside his castle..NO! he wouldn't allow it. He'd fry that red headed wench first...
Ragnar looked out the hole into the hallway, the others peering around him. Spyral glanced back at the guards. They were shoving each other through the door on the other side of the room, terror on their faces, shouting something about getting out of this place, and quick.
"Hey, do you think we can go now?" he asked, "Those other guys seemed to think it was a good idea."
Artic was the first through the door hole. "Come on guys, I think I know another way out." She would have suggested following 6th, but they were gone already, Lochinar's screams echoing up the hall.
The gang started to follow Artic down another hall. Ragnar glanced back down the hallway his friend had taken with the boy. He shook his head, hoping 6th would make it. Of course, SHE hadn't seen the wound on her back. Ragnar had glimpsed it as 6th had leapt through the door hole. He just hoped she didn't catch sight of it before she got out with the boy. He had a grim feeling that 6th was running on pure adrenaline...
JilaCosa -- The Major!!!!
Jila yells as loudly as she can. The group had just come out and around Lochinar's Spire when Sixth tripps, rolls, and lays flat on her back in the grass with the boy in her arms. Steeling herself from the pain in her back, Sixth slowly rises from the ground and hugs the boy tighter in her arms. The "mother" thing is now tightly wound around her fighting spirit.
Seeing his chance to retrieve his teddy bear, Lochinar slows his running and begins to walk. With every step he becomes more and more confident in his ability to retrieve his prize. *This one is nothing. She has no spells and can not wield a weapon with the boy in her arms. Victory is mine.

"
Ragnar, you've got to help me. I'm not sure that my voice is loud enough for The Major to hear. Dragons have incredible hearing but still I'm not sure. Between the two of us he'll definitely hear. The Major said that he would come, all I had to do was call for him and he come with the other Dragons of this world."
"MAAAAAAAJOOOOOOOOOOR!!!"
The yelled together, the air ringing with the volume of Ragnar's voice.
"It may take some time for the Dragons to gather," Spyral said to the others, pulling an arrow from his quiver, "so we're going to need to slow Lochinar down for awhile." The arrow takes off with the speed of light and lands with an added explosion at Lochinar's feet. Lochinar jumps with surprise having forgotten about the others in his haste to get "Mr. Snuggles" back.
"Come on you guys." Spyral called over his shoulder. "We're going to need everything we've got to distract him from Sixth until the dragons get here. Jila, go with Artic and help Rae. Kara, we are going to need you and your mace in the distraction. I've seen what kind of reach that thing has, just keep aiming in at Lochinar. Drum, IQ, let's see what kind of magic you can throw at him."
Knowing there was nothing he could do for Sixth on this side of the battle field Ragnar looked for a way to sneak around behind her and guard her personally.
As the magic and weapons fly a shadow begins to pass over the area. A large, dark, and menacing cloud begin to pass overhead like the coming of a terrible storm. A large and menacing storm it was that passed over and circled the battle field because it was........
"The Dragons!!!!" Jila yelled to the others, "They're here! They made it!"
Not far from Jila, Artic, and Rae a rather large dragon lands.
"Well, well girl. Nice call, that. Didn't know if we'd get a chance to take a round out of the old bugger, eh, what."
The other dragons fly in circles overhead just waiting for their chance to have some fun. Using her hand to shade her eyes, Jila looks up at the flying dragons. In the middle of the group flies Geradan, happy for the time being to be with his own kind.
Not being used to having magic Kaybe realizes that there is something she can do. This is what her magic is for. Without taking the time for explanations, Kaybe plants her staff firmly on the ground and tips it slowly sideways. The actions of the people around her slow and the stop. Carefully holding the staff at a tilt, Kaybe hurries over to Sixth and then to Ragnar. When she takes their hands they are immune to the affects of her Time Staff. Still holding hands they return swiftly to a position beside the Major and then Kaybe straightens her staff to return time to normal speed.
KaraS -- Thinking quickly...
KaraS cast a "protection from evil" around Lorichnar. Nothing evil could get in or out of the circle. As he was evil, Lorichanr was trapped inside.
But not for long. The mighty mage raised his hands and lightning shot from his fingertips, racing around the inside of the dome of force over him. It was an interesting spectacle. But it was eating through Kara's magic.
"Rae! Drum! Help me. Reinforce the circle somehow!" Kara yelled.
Raven Kat -- “I’m not sure I can Kara.....”
Rae mutters. "I just don't feel too well, I guess."
"RAE!" Drum yells in her face.
Rae jerks her head back and frowns. "I'm sick, not deaf." she groans. "And now I have a headache, too..." Rae whimpers. Tears stream down her face.
"Oh, don't go all wuzzy on us now!" Raganr snaps.
"Come on, Rae." Drum adds. "We NEED your help."
"Right, right." Rae nods and struggles to her feet. "Yes, a spell for strength? For the spell to be strong?"
"Uh, yeah, Rae." Kara nods, frowning.
"Spell-spell... Here, spell-spell-spell." Rae murmurs as she searches her mind for a spell. Things are just a little fuzzy, but she manages to find an appropriate spell.
The words spill out of her mouth as though from memory, and the shimmering magical sphere around Lochinar becomes a solid brick dome.
"Rae, that's great!" Kara says.
Rae nods and staggers away. "I think I'm about to be ill..." she whispers.
Kaybe0 -- As Drum tried to see what he could do..
to help Rae feel better, Kay and Ragnar knealt over the injured Sixth, who was still clutching the little boy with the teddy bear. As Ragnar gently tried to dislodge the boy from Sixth's arms, she grabbed him tighter, her motherly instinct the only thing on her mind at the moment, keeping her pain at bay. "No! Must protect him." She got out through clenched teeth. "Come on Sixth," said Kaybe in a soothing voice. "He is quite safe now." She moved aside slightly so that Sixth could see the brick wall around Lockinar, and the villagers standing guard between the wall and her. "We must look at your wound." As Ragnar again tried to take the boy, this time Sixth reluctantly released him, but kept her eyes glued to him as she moaned in pain. Gently, Ragnar rolled her over so they could have a look at her back. With a hard look in his eyes he looked at Kaybe, who smiled at Sixth, and jumped up turning quickly so that Sixth wouldn't see the tears in her eyes. Kay rushed over to the group and let them know that Sixth was hurt badly. Very badly. The little boy wouldn't leave Sixth's side, as Ragnar, trying to keep her mind occupied, pointed out to her the once more beautiful countryside, and the villagers, who now had color to their faces, and hair. And the smiles on all the faces of the once captive slaves of the evil magician. As the group starts back to Sixth, wondering how to save their friend, an old man in a ragged white robe stands in front of them. He has a tired but kind face, etched in wrinkles, and walked leaning on a long stick. "I can help your friend." he stated softly, but confidently.
"How?" asked Mouse, trying to stiffle a sob at the severety of what Kay had told them. "Are you positive?" asked Jilla.
Rae, feeling better, thanks to Drum and Kara, was still being supported by IQ, and said, "If you can, then help her. She doesn't have much time." "I used to be a healer, before our magic was taken from us." He stated. "And, allthough I am old and frail now, I feel the magic growing strongly within me again." As Spyrel motioned the group to stand back, Drum helped the old man over to Sixth's side. Artic glanced over her shoulder to make sure that Lockinar was still safely trapped, the others made a protectice circle around their friend. The secret of the teddy bear was important, but, nothing was as important as their friends life. As the old man smiled at Sixth and examined her wound, Kay put her arm around the little boy, who looked at Sixth with worry and fear in his eyes. "I can help her, but she is going to feel much pain." Said the old man. Drum takes one of her hands in his and squeezes it, as Ragnar takes the other. The old healer starts moving his hands over her back and across the wound. Sixth lets out a horrible scream, and then slumps over. "What have you done!" yelled Ragnar, grabbing the old man. "Wait!" said Jilla, pointing to Sixth. Looking down, they see Sixth move slightly, and moan quietly, but, her face now has a look of peace on it, as if the pain is gone. There is a slight scar where the wound used to be. The old healer nods his head and smiles.
Raven Kat -- “Thankyou, old man.”
Rae whispers to him, drawing him aside. "You have done us a great service healing my friend. I am greatful."
"I see that you are injured as well. Inside. I can help."
No, I have no desire for aid. The magic consumes me, but I will recover. I have a gift for you, though. A thanks."
"I require no thanks after all you have done for my people."
Rae shakes her head and extends her dagger to him. "I recovered this from my own tomb. It is enchanted and may cause no harm to the rightous. Use it well, I have no more need for it."
The old man takes the dagger from her. "If you cahnge your mind..."
"I will not." Rae turns her back on him and walks over to Sixth. "Hey, look who decided to rejoin us. You missed all the fun." Rae laughs mildly. "Gee, you look great."
Sixth sticks out her tounge.
Rae laughs and hugs her as firmly as she can (which is not too firmly at all). "You'd make a great mother, Sixth. I envy you that quality." she whispers, making Sixth blush. Then, she turns to the rest of the group. "We still must decide what to do with Lochinar. And there is the small matter of finding that misbegotten dwarf..."
RagnarRB -- What are they doing?
As a calm settled over the area Ragnar kept a close eye on the solid sphere. What held it together was anybodies guess.
Seeing a humongous shodow fall over him the viking looked up.
"Say there little chap, have you picked out which one you want to keep yet?"
Ragnar just looked at him with a blank, tired look. The major waited a moment then shook his head.
"Crimney you are out of it aren't you? This business hasn't made you a bit daft has it?"
Ragnar was still perplexed. "What are you talking about Major?"
"Why the lasses of course! Cann't have them running around single ya know. They might get in all kinds of mischief. You look healthy and strapping maybe you should take two yes?" A dragon claw nudged Ragnar in the back playfully and comraderly.
"You're as bad as 6th you know that?"
The dragon gawaffed in laughter.
Turning to a more serious note...."You think that'll hold him?"
The Major eyed the sphere. "No probably not, not forever anyway, but for now. Evil needs to stretch it legs now and again you know. Blimney stuff is necessary me missus would say."
Ragnar shook his head. Lockinar would be loose again. "Can someone here break the spell?"
The Major pondered. "Maybe but we can fix that...abit..for a while anyway."
With that the major reached out with a claw an scratched a series of symbols in the surface of the sphere. The sigil glowed and simmered, alive with what ever the Major poured into it. When he was done another dragon landed and did likewise. One by one they all began to follow suit.
"What are you doing?"
The major only looked on. "We Dragons used to be the protectors of the land. We are tying a bit of ourselves to the spell lad. As long as the dragons remain in the world then so shall the spell be strong. It's the least we can do for being lax in our duties"
"And when one of you passes?"
The Dragon shrugged. "They you get to come back and do it all over again."
Viridian -- Viridian shyly walked though the group
of Scoobies. She came to where Sixth and the boy were sitting and knelt down in front of the child. She reached inside a pocket of her rough shift and brought out a large purple crayon.
"Harold," she said, "I've been hiding this for you." She held out the crayon to the boy.
The child smiled and shook his head. "Naw, you keep it Auntie Vi. You always did like drawing more than I did."
She gave him a little kiss on his cheek. "I'm glad you remember who you are Auntie Vi," Harold whispered to her. "It was lonely being the only one who remembered who everyone was."
JilaCosa -- Watching as the dragons make their marks
Jila steps toward The Major. The others, now able to sit back and consider their situation, try to decide what the boy and the bear have to do with this world of magic.
Seeing Geradan about to make his sigil in the brick tomb, Jila calls out. "Wait my friend, just for a minute." She turns to The Major who lays in the grass relaxing in the sun, his very large eyes meeting hers. "Major, if Geradan adds his sigil to the bricks will everything be okay when he and I return home?"
"Much better than 'okay', wot?" The Major boomed in delight, "That dragon of yours will be much safer in your world. At least no one from this world will have a chance to get at him."
"By the way, Major, you said that if one of the dragons die then we'll have to start all over again. I hate to ask but which one of you is the oldest and how much time does that one have left?"
Laughing again The Major looks at the dragons gathered in the open area surrounding Lochinar's Spire.
"Well, I say, looks like I am the oldest. But look here girl, I don't have a thought to leave this life for at least another thousand years. Can't have the old bugger breaking out of there any time soon, now can we?"
Feeling a little better about things Jila signals Geradan to place his mark among the others.
And now, for the boy and the bear.
Sixth Sense Dreamer-- The boy and the bear....
The group gathered around the boy, who was holding the bear tightly to his chest. His gaze never wavered from the stuffed teddy. "I missed you." he whispered and kissed the bear softly on the head.
The air was still as everyone held their breath, expecting SOMETHING to happen. Silence. They all looked to the boy, who was cuddling the bear.
"I thought that..." Spyral nudged Ragnar, but before he could continue, a rumbling began, emenating from beneath the boy's feet. It grew louder, and 6th started to come forward to protect the boy from any harm, but the child held up his hand. "Wait." he said quietly, and everyone was still.
The first changes that came were small.
"Is that a bird singing?" Jila asked, one hand to her ear, listening, as the sweet song filled the air. More birds joined in, the air filling with birdsong of all kinds.
A rabbit hopped by over the blasted land. More animals appeared as if by magic. Rae looked down as two squirrels ran by her, chittering happily.
"Hey look at this!" she said, pointing the the tiny blades of grass that were poking up through the ground. Suddenly, in a wave of sound and color, everything happened at once.
The grass sprang up from the ground, rolling outward from the boy's feet in a wave. Flowers burst out of the ground, circles of them surrounding each of the Scapers, the Major and the other Dragons, the assembled others from the Magician's castle, and the boy himself.
A rumble grew louder, joining in with the one already echoing in the air.
"That sounds like..." IQ began.
"WATER!" Mouse cried as a torrent of water rushed over the rocky cliffs in the distance, shooting out from the rock face creating rainbows in the sky. The torrent slowed down as it continued flowing. By the time the water reached the Scapers, it had become a normal, and beautiful river, leading back to a high, majestic waterfall. It flowed past them in a gurgle, fish leaping out every so often. A deer paused to drink from it, hardly noticing the group that stood on the river's banks.
The Scapers turned around in wonderment, jaws dropping, happy smiles all around. As the rumbling continued, 6th shouted "Look!" Everyone gazed up at what was once Lochinar's spire. The spire had split down the middle, shivering and shaking, as a huge castle grew up out of the ground. The black spire crumbled to dust and the shimmering white castle stood tall against the sky. Ivy grew up its sides, a glistening green, and over Lochinar's prison, hardening into a dull iron color. As the rumbling dies away, Ragnar walked over and rapped on one ivy branch covering the magician's prison with his knuckles. "Solid iron." he chuckled.
"Well, I'll be..." the Major's voice cut through the wonderment of the gang, and they all turned to look at him. He was gazing at the boy, who was a boy no longer.
A tall, handsome young man stood there instead, his long brown hair pulled back, leaving the ends to trail back over his princely robes. In his arms was a beautiful woman, obviously a princess. Her silvery dress glittering in the sun was dull compared to her golden curls, her astonishingly beautiful face, or her radiant smile.
They turned to the Scapers, and the boy spoke, smiling at them all(And chuckling a bit as the guys, since they couldn't seem to tear their gaze off of the princess, received various nudgings and helpful jaw shutting from the girls)
"You have saved this land." he said, "And I can never thank you enough for that. But on top of all that you have done for us, you have given my wife back to me after so many years. We were cursed by my brother, the evil Lochinar, many years ago. He was jealous of our love, and decided to destroy it and take over our kingdom. He transformed me into the child you found, and kept my wife with him as the bear you saw. He took our lands, put my people into slavery and tried to destroy everything good and beautiful, so filled with anger was he, that he decided if he could not have what was most beautiful in the land, then no one would have anything of any beauty or goodness."
"For I could never love the evil man." the beautiful lady said, in a soft lilting voice. "His coldness, and wickedness was repugnant to me, to all of us."
"You brave warriors have come a long way to rescue this place. We will be forever in your debt." he looked then to the Major, who was looking sad, and blowing his long snout into a gigantic hanky.
"Oh little humans, I WILL miss you funny things so, lord love it!" he sniffled, as the Scapers were all scooped up in his scaly arms for a giant hug. He set them down gently.
"And now," continued the prince, as the Major continued to sniffle in the background, "It is time for you to return home. Good bye, my friends, my heros, until we meet again." He began to wave, as did the rest of the gathered people and dragons.
"But wait!" Jila cried.
"What about the Dwarf!" Rae yelled, as the Scapers faded away.
"All will be taken care of, do not worry my friends." the prince's voice echoed in their ears. They blinked as a bright light flashed, then...
***********************
<PLOP!> They looked around. They were all back in the living room of the FS Mansion. And all piled on the couch as if they had fallen from the sky. After a second or two of silence...
"Get OFF me, you big..."
"OW! Someones elbow's in my eye!"
"Ooh I didn't know you felt THAT way about me, Rae! LOL"
Shut up, 6th." Rae groaned, pulling herself out from underneath everyone. They all managed to struggle out from underneath everyone else, sitting on the couch, the floor, where ever they crawled to.
"Is anyone else exhausted?" Mouse asked wearily. Hands were raised, and one dragon claw, as Geradan yawned behind the couch.
"I don't think we slept much in the past...what weeks?" Jila said, falling into the papasan chair.
"Hey, Ragnar, what time is it, do you know?" 6th asked, stretching on the couch. She looked around. "Ragnar?"
The others started to worry. Did their Viking get left behind?
"It's time for you to hush!" Ragnar's voice growled from the recliner planted in front of the large screen TV.
Farscape on, volume up on high, he had popped in a tape the instant he had gotten untangled from the gang. "I'm here, trying to watch the episodes I missed, if you don't mind!" he rumbled, winking at 6th to make sure they all kew he wasn't really angry.
She began to laugh, they all did. Ah, home sweet home at last!
Raven Kat -- “Dibs on the shower!!”
Rae yells happily.
Two hours later, she pulls open the bathroom door and great clouds of steam billow out around her. A passing DRD squeaks angrily about the puddles on the floor.
Laughing, Rae runs to her room, wrapped in a towel, carrying her backpack and weapons with her. The weapons, including the ones she took from her own corpse, she hangs carefully on her walls. The clothes are cleaned, patched and stored away for future use.
Reemerging a few minutes later in jeans and a denim shirt, Rae goes downstairs to join the others in watching Farscape...
