I'll Be Dog-Gone
I'll Be Dog-Gone (27)
Raven-Kat -- “EEEKKKKK!!!”

Raegun shrieks. "N-n-not..." <<dramatic music>> "Horror Land!"

"Wuzz." Rae snaps, dropping him onto the counter. "Stay!"

"Don't leave me!"

"We're not there, yet." Rae points out. "Don't get all wiggy on me. I need to go see Sunny." Rae stalks out of the boathouse and into the infirmary.

"You come to give me another dunking?" Sunny demands, toweling off her hair.

"I came to get another temperature reading." Rae replies, picking up the thermometer. "Mouth."

Sunny clamps the thermometer in her mouth and sits quietly, but the look she's giving Rae says it all.

"Back to normal." Rae announces. "Now we just give you a shot and your fit for duty."

"What kind of shot?" Sunny demands. "And exactly how much do you know about first aid?"

"Enough to give shots and set bones." Rae opens the med-kit and regards the row of little vials. "I forget, is this the kill shot or the antibiotic?"

Sunny goes white.

"Kidding." Rae tells her flatly. "It's the Nerve shot. THIS is the antibiotic. And this is the anti-viral. We'll give you both to be safe."

Sunny nods. "Sounds wise. Got an immune-booster in there?"

"Think so." Rae shuffles through the kit. "Here."

"Give me that too."

"Suit yourself." Rae picks up the injector and slides in the first vial. "You rather I get Mouse to do this?" She asks slowly.

"I trust you." Sunny says. "Hit me."

Grinning, Rae makes a fist.

"You made a joke." Sunny laughs. "Very good."

Rae gives Sunny the shots and appraises her of the situation, then the two ladies walk up on deck where the others are begginning to assemble.

"Where's Rag?" Rae demands, looking around.

"Trying to unlock the controls." Mouse supplies. "He's got Raegun in there."

"Good." Rae nods. "Do we all know the rules for surviving one of these things?"

"Uh, don't split up." Jila ventures. "Safety in numbers."

"Beware if talking dolls." Kaybe adds.

"Objects moving in a mysterious fashion should be considered a bad sign." Spyral chimes in.

"Making love in the woods at night is a sure path to a bloody death." Artist adds.

"And don't you forget it! It's the SIN FACTOR!!!" Rae points sharply at him. "I'm going to go help Ragnar. Who's armed?"

Sunny, Kara, and Sixth raise their hands.

"Great. No one go anywhere without someone who's armed. No one go anywhere in groups of less than three. No one leave this spot if it can be at all avoided. No one say I'll be right back, because you won't." Rae pauses and shakes her head. *How'd that slip in there?* "Better still, everybody to the galley. Rag and I will be down shortly. Remember the rules."

Rae waits until the others have gone below before joining Ragnar and Raegun in the boathouse.

"It's not working." Ragnar announces as she enters.

"We are all going to die." Raegun adds. "But it's better to go down on a swing."

"Let's join the others." Rae says. "We can divert most ship functions into the galley."

Ragnar nods and hands Raegun over. "Yeah. Good idea. You provide cover."

Rae hesitates at the door. "Rag?"

"Yes?"

"I'm the cutest one on board, right?"

Kaybe0 -- Horror Land?

"We are headed to Horror Land?" Kay asks the question silently to herself. "Oh Boy, Don't let anyone see your bones shaking Kay" she admonishes herself. "Act brave. Don't let anyone see how scared you are. As long as we stay together. Just stay together. Staytogether." "What did you say, Kay?" asked Rae? "Nothing." lied Kaybe. "I was just thinking out loud about, um, playing with the feather I found on deck earlier." she said peevishly. "Well, idiot" she said to herself. "That was real inteligent." She looked up to see Mouse wink at her, and Jila mouthed "me too." Okay, so maybe there were some others who might be a little nervous about Horror Land, also. She could act brave. Just as long as they staaay together. "Ragnar!" she thought to herself. "He's the biggest." Siding up to Ragnar, she smiled up at him and said in her bravest voice. "You know, Rag, I always thought of you as my big brave brother." "Woops," she thought, "didn't mean to say brave". Outloud. "You are just the best." And she hugged his arm, and kind of didn't let go. At first, a little confused, Ragnar looked down at her huge eyes. She was scared stiff. He grinned and patted her on the back. "Yea, Kay, that's nice". and gently removing his arm from her clutch, he said, "Just let me work here, okay?" "Okay, she said. Just don't go far away, allright?" "Allright," he said grinning at her again, and patting her shoulder once more. Okay, she was calming down. It was, after all, just another make believe land, right? Still, she did a roll call to make sure all her friends were here with her. Besides Rae and Ragnar, was Sunny. She looked a little pale yet, but, fine. Good. Then there was Jilla and Mouse. They looked a little nervous, but calm. Very good. Sixthy looked like she was ready to conquer the world. Great. Artic and IQ looked like they weren't exactly sure what to think, but, could take whatever. Okay. Spyral and Artist. More guys, Yea. Viridian and Kara were talking to Ghost. Ghost. Sweet, loving Ghost. How scary could Horror Land be. Chryse...Where was Chryse? Okay, there she was by Jila. she looked like she was fine. "Okay, Kaybe. Get a grip." Everyone is fine, if only a little scared. Don't be a wuss. Be brave." There, she convinced herself that they would be fine. Still, Rae had laid Raegun down on the table, and Kay found herself patting him, and whispering, "It will be okay Raegun. We just have to stay together."

Chryse74 -- “well, horrorland, huh?  this should be

interesting." said Chryse. She started thinking about her childhood and growing up in elven country. Her best friend had been a sweet little girl goblin who had had a pet bat. *Beatrice the bat.... yes, that was her name.... and Goldy the goblin. Goldy had always been really nice... I wonder how goblins had gotten such a bad name among the human realms?* thought Chryse.

As Kay talked to Ragnar, Chryse noticed that Kay, Jila, and Mouse seemed a bit nervous.

"Hey, girls, you know, monsters aren't all bad." she said out loud.

"Huh?" came from several people.

"Well, it's true... Frankenstein's monster was a very intelligent, sensitive creature in the book. He just looked scary and was too strong to really control himself. And my best friend growing up was a goblin and her pet bat.. they were really nice. If you see any monsters, I'd be willing to bet that they won't really want to harm you as long as you don't harm them." explained Chryse.

Ghost nodded her agreement and the others thought it over for a minute.

"But won't they all be acting like horror movie monsters? The ones that do want to kill us and eat our brains?" asked Spyral.

"Uh, oh yeah, I forgot about that... but your horror movies are so silly. All the characters do stupid things and get themselves into trouble. I should think that we won't have that problem." said chryse.

Viridian -- Vi sat inside her Groovy Girl Pup Tent

and thought about their impending arrival to Horrorland. She sighed--- at least the time of year was right. She knew most of Horrorland used to resemble Transylvania, but in the past twenty years that had begun to change. She knew there would be a sign greeting them at the Horrorland harbor:

"Welcome to Maine" it would read and would be signed, "Stephen King- Governor."

Sweetiepie Parrot -- “Release the hounds!”

Captain artickitten yelled.

Thor leaped to the hold and threw open the door. Empty silence greeted him.

*The dogs are not here.* Thor telepathed in panic.

"Hezmana with this." Sweetiepie said. "Let's get the Hezmana out of here!"

Sweetiepie glided down to the control console and started punching buttons. The mini longboat backed up, made a sharp right turn, and headed back the way it had come.

"Hey!" Captain Kitten said. "I'm the Captain. It's my fantasy. I say when we leave, not you."

"You can stay here if you want." Sweetiepie said. "But the rest of us are getting out of here."

<Um, I agree with the bird...> Elvis mumbled.

The splashing of oars fell silent as they left the reality ship and the sailors in the rowboat behind.

*Where are you taking us?* Thor asked.

"Back to the island." Sweetiepie said. "This was a dumb fantasy to start with."

Kitten went to the Captain's cabin to sulk.

Fantasy Island hove into view. Roarke met them on the beach.

"And how did you enjoy your fantasy?" he asked.

"It sucked." Kitten said.

"Now young lady, watch your language." Roarke said.

*She has had a disappointing day.* Thor remarked.

"Yeah." Sweetiepie said. "Where's the real longboat?"

"It left." Roarke said.

*My queen would not abandon me.*

"Artic wouldn't leave me!"

"Yeah, what gives?"

"The longboat was hijacked." Roarke explained. "It is now headed for Horrorland, controlled by the Phantom of Farscape."

"We have to save them!" Kitten said.

So they all piled back onto the mini longboat and set out for Horrorland to save their friends...

Raven-Kat -- “You know,”

Rae says softly, "I don't think this is going to be so bad."

"Yeah." Raegun agrees enthusiastically. "All we need to do is avoid those tired old horror-movie traps. No problem." The lights go out and Raegun gives a little shriek.

"Don't make me slap you." Rae says with a sigh, reaching into a cabinet and pulling out several candles. "It's probably just the lightning."

"What lightning?" Ragnar says. "It's not even raining."

On cue, a peal of thunder is heard. Smiling, Rae begins lighting the candles and placing them around the galley. "Ah, talk about establishing mood!" she tells Ragnar. "It's almost romantic."

"You are a sick woman." Artist says in disgust.

"Thank you." Rae goes to the cupboard for more candles and says, "What's this?"

"You find something?" Mouse asks, joining her.

"It appears to be a book of demon-summoning. Hey, let's read it!"

"RAE!"

"I'm kidding." Rae mutters something under her breath in Sebacian. "It's my portable deep-fryer. We can make doughnuts to pass the time."

"Doughnuts are nice." Raegun says. "I think."

"They are VERY nice." Chryse tells him. "Especially when Rae makes them."

"Shall we, then? It'll be a fun way to pass the time until we get the lights back." Rae sets up the fryer quickly and begins hunting around for ingredients.

The mood in the galley quickly becomes considerably more cheerful.

JilaCosa -- Except for Jila....

whose mood couldn't possibly get worse. Fear radiates from every inch of her being. Her heart pounds in her chest as she bites her lower lip to keep from screaming. She can't show the others just how scared she really is.

*Why me? Why now?* Jila slips into a chair, her back to a corner, and tries to make herself as small as possible. Then, to make matters worse, little Pandora appears from nowhere right in front of her.

"Nooooooo!" Jila tries scrambling out of her chair and onto her feet, but ends up falling off the chair instead. The small fire-lizards eye color change and swirl with the fear surrounding Jila. "Oh, Pandora." Jila grabs her new friend out of the air and carefully hugs her tight. As the others come to realize Jila's need, she hurries to her feet and runs out of the galley for her room.

"I Can't Do This!" Jila cries just before she enters her room, and slams and locks it behind her.

Raven-Kat -- “Which part of ‘don’t split up’

are you having trouble with?" Rae yells through the door. She throws herself against the door, only managing to hurt her arm "Jila!"

"Shall I open it?" Raegun inquires mildly.

"Do it." Rae says. "But be careful."

Raegun targets a small blast at the lock of the door which swings open.

"Go away." Jila whispers from the corner. She sits huddled against a wall with Pandora in her arms.

"Drenn." Rae hands Raegun back out to Ragnar and says. "Everybody back to the galley. Move!"

"Uh, Rae, that would be spliting up." Ragnar tells her gently.

"Do you want the doughnuts to burn? Move!" As the others leave, Rae walks over to Jila. "Hey."

"Go away." Jila repeats softly.

"Um... No." Rae walks over to her and sits down next to her. "Time to start talking, baby. And YOU-" she points to Pandora "stop magnifying her fears, thankyou very much."

Pandora blinks up at her.

"You heard me." Rae says firmly. "Be good." Rae turns her attention back to Jila. "Rule number 18: 'don't be afraid to smack the hysterical chick'. Watch me break it." Rae reaches out and hugs Jila instead. "Tell me what's wrong. Tell me what you need."

Jila looks up at her. "I'm scared."

"So am I. But we've got to be brave for the kiddies. Now tell me.”

Kaybe0 -- The dogs!

"Mouse, the dogs!" Said Kay in a panic. "I don't want anything to happen to them. We should lock the hold." Kay took Mouse by the arm. "We can't go alone." Said Mouse. "Come on Ragnar, come go with us.". Reluctantly, Ragnar followed the two women down to the hold, and waited while they fed and made sure the dogs were comfortable. Then, locking the hold, to keep them safe, they returned to the others as quickly as possible. Poor Jila, Kay thought. She knew just how she felt. Horror land, may not be so bad, if you analize it, but, it was based on the movies, and the monstors in the movies were really bad. Kay shivered again.

SunAeryn -- “Rae, where are you?”

Rae could hear Sunny's voice, but she couldn't see her.
"Sun, come on, quit it! You know I don't like it when you disappear with out warning me!" Rae yelled, trying not to make Jila more scared than she already was.
"Rae, sorry, it happens when I get really scared. Remember me telling you about when I was taken...that's why I did it." Sun explains as her voice gets closer.
"Great! Just frellin' great!" Jila exclaims "The two strongest women on this longboat are both scared and one of them, we can't frellin see! I am not staying here! Frell the Phantom!" Jila finishes
"Jila, it's ok...we can beat him." Sun's voice is heard
"Sunny is right Jila, we can beat him. We just have to control our fears." Rae adds, hauling Jila up to her feet.
"Now, the best way to do that is to, STICK TOGETHER! Now, Jila, you know I care for you, but get your eema back to the galley, NOW!" Rae said, gently pushing Jila towards the galley.
"I'm right behind you two. Just promise me one thing...can we please avoid "The Birds" area, at all cost? I really hate that movie. Before my parents took me to the Center...my older brothers forced me to watch it...knowing it would scare me. I've hated it ever since." Sun told Jila and Rae as they walked to the galley.

"FOR THE LOVE OF CHILNACK!! Sun!" Rae yelled, moving rather quickly away from Sun
"What?" Sun asked, not aware that only her legs could be seen.
"WHOA! Sunny, what happened?" Ragnar asked, trying not to freak out the rest of the gang.
"WHAT THE FRELL?! Why are you looking at me like that?" Sun asked.
"Sun, we can only see your legs, and part of your pulse rifle." Rae finally told her.
"Can't you do something about that?" Jila asked
"Yeah, it's really creeping out the others." Ragnar managed to get out, all the while thinking *Man, that's just to freaky.*
"Oh, I didn't know...sorry. I'll work on it." Sun said, starting to concentrate on reappearing fully.
Rae sat Jila down at the table, "Stay together...remember that people? I'm serious...stay together."
"Ok, look, we all know we are all scared. Hiding it from each other isn't going to help us. It might actually hurt us." Sun, fully her visable self added.
"Sun's right. If we let each other know what we are most afraid of...it just might come in handy, if we run into anything that may manifest itself as our fears." Sixthy added.

Sun took a deep breath, "I'll start." She looked at her friends, took another deep breath and started..."The things I'm most afraid of are the movie "The Birds", spiders, and being recaptured by the Scarrens." Sun let out a breath, not realizing that she had been holding it. "Ok, who's next. By sharing this....it could help. We would be able to help each other out." Sun added, grabbing a doughnut and some milk.

Kaybe0 -- Wow

Thought Kay, starting to feel better. Somehow, knowing she wasn't the only one so afraid, made her not so afraid.
"Well", she said hesitantly, "I am terrified of rats and spiders and roaches, and can't possibley watch movies with them. But, the thing that scares me the most, is the monsters, and psycho's, who keep chasing you, and showing up no matter how fast or far you run to get away from them. And just when you feel like you put some distance between you and them, they show up right in front of you." I used to dream about a monstor that followed me and my children all over town. And no matter where we hid, it knew. And I am terrified that some psycho, like Jack Nicholas in 'The Shining' is right outside my window sometimes." Just thinking about it made her nervous, and she almost pushed herself into Spyral, who was sitting next to her. "I don't think anyone can top my fears," she added.

Lurkingghost -- I’m scared of.....

not being here. I'm scared that some day my grip on this plain may just disappear, and nobody will be able to see me and I'll be all alone in this weird blur of colors that doesn't make sense. It'd be like being caught in starburst, or being stuck in "between."

'Ghost's green-blue glow dims a little and she shivers.

Raven-Kat -- “Unbelievable!”

Rae snaps, jumping from her chair. "Un-frelling-believable. I am not going to sit here and let you people feed into each other's fears like this. It is NOT going to happen!"

"You people?" Sun repeats. "YOU PEOPLE? Is that what you just called us?"

"You heard me." Rae rises. "This is frelling insane and I will not be a part of it."

"Talking about it makes it a little better." Ghost contributes softly.

"Frell that! Some things should not be talked about. Period." Rae shakes her head and paces around the small room. "Naming some demons just makes them stronger."

"Damn." Mouse sighs. "Rae, stop this."

"NO." Rae shakes her head firmly. "You people do not need to know. In fact, you are better off NOT knowing."

"She may have a point." Raegun offers quietly.

"Oh, like you know anything." Sunny yells. "What could poosibly scare YOU?"

"My pulse chamber over-loading." Raegun whispers. "I think it would hurt very much."

Rae picks the rifle up and cradles it against her like a child. "I won't let that happen to you."

"Rae," Kaybe whispers after a moment. "please tell us. It can't be as bad as you think."

Rae stares at her. "You have not seen the things that I have. None of you! Don't begin for one second to assume you understand me."

"This doesn't work if we don't all do it!" Ragnar shouted at her.

"I'm not playing!" Rae says firmly. "Just knowing could put you all in danger."

"Is that what it really is?" Sunny demands. "Are you being selfless or selfish, Rae?"

"It's about your family, isn't it?" Kaybe guesses. "About the death of your folks?"

"LEAVE THEM OUT OF THIS!" Rae screams.

"It's about her family." Vi says, noding.

"No, I don't think so." Mouse says. "Rae, can you tell us ANYTHING?"

"Um..." Rae stops dead, then begins pacing around the room. "I can tell you what scares me more than ALMOST anything else."

"It's a start." Mouse says encouragingly.

"Watching what happened to my people happen to yours. Watchings the Scarrans destroy yet another of my homes. There's only one thing in the multiverse that scares me more. And I'm NOT talking about it."

KaraS -- “Fear of Failure.”

KaraS said.

Rae turned around so fast she almost fell over and looked at Kara with a stunned expression.

"Not you Rae. I mean me." Kara sighed. "What scares me most is messing up in a way that puts others in danger. Monsters and psychos and demons and stuff are bad but if we are on top of our game we can defeat them. Hey, Rae and Spyral took care of that demon in Mexico just fine. But what if we've got some kind of plan and I don't hold up my end of the bargain? What if you get hurt or killed because of me?"

"You just need a little self confidence." Artist said, smiling at her with his dazzling teeth.

"Maybe, but that's my fear." Kara said.

Raven-Kat -- “Now That

is the first realistic fear I've heard mentioned here today." Rae says gently.

The others look at her in shock.

"It's pretty much the only thing you can't defeat in a fair fight. It's a good fear, Kara." Rae says encouragingly. "It shows strength that you can admit to it."

"Uh... thanks?"

Rae grins. "However-"

"There's always a however with this woman." Artist mutters.

"HOWEVER," Rae repeats. "It hasn't happened once yet, so why sweat it?"

"Uh..."

"Thought so." Rae nods and gives Kara a quick hug. "You know, sometimes our fears can make us stronger. Assuming we've got what it takes to own up to them. Next?"

Raegun -- “I think we can make it through this.”

Raegun contributes.

"I think that's assuming an awful lot." Rae tells him.

"No, really. Think about the things people are naming as their fears. Bugs and spiders: Yeah, they're gross, but they can't really hurt you, just freak you out. Psychos and monsters: We've got the firepower to take on anything that comes at us. And Scarrans: When's the last time you saw one of THOSE in a horror movie?"

"Those are all very good points." Kaybe says with a surpirsed grin. "We can do this!"

"Duh." Rae contributes, popping a doughnut into her mouth.

SunAeryn -- Sun got quiet

She just stopped talking...she was starring at nothing and everything at the same time.
"Sun? Yo, Sunny? You with us?" Ragnar asked, waving a hand in front of her face
"I hope the shots I gave her haven't frelled her. She is Sebeacen, right?" Rae asked, not wanting the others to know, she was worried
Sun was still not doing anything, but starring.
"Rae, you aren't the only one that has seen things. You are not the only one that has been through hezmana and back, so just get off that trip!" Sun finally said.

Sun got up and started walking out of the galley.
"Whoa, where the frell did that come from Sunny?" Ragnar asked, grabbing her before she could leave
"Remember, stick together, that's the plan." he reminded her.
Sun looked at Ragnar, quickly hiding the pain and fear that she was fighting. Sun had her back to the rest of the gang. <click> was heard and then a low humming noise.
"I know that sound" Raegun said
"Me, too." Rae added "Sun what are you doing?" Rae started walking towards Sun
Sun turned around, she had taken the safety off on her pulse rifle. "I'm going to my bunk. No one follow me. I need to be alone. I'm tired of this. No one believes me when I say that if we know about each others fears we can help each other fight them." Sun said, with her hand on the trigger of her pulse rifle
"Sunny, do you think this is a good idea?" Ragnar asked, reaching for her pulse rifle.
Sun stepped away from Ragnar, away from the others.
"I don't know what to think anymore. Ok? Happy! We've been on this frelling boat for to long. I'm sick of it!" Sun said...having trouble breathing. "Now, I'm going up top, DON'T FRELLIN FOLLOW ME!"
With that, Sun went up top.

Once up top, Sun started breathing again...she sucked in as much air as she could and worked at trying to calm down. She found a spot to sit, before she fell.
"That was to frellin' close." Sun mumbled

Raven-Kat -- “I’m probably gonna get shot for this.”

Rae said softly, "but I'm going up."

"Uh, hi!" Ragnar waved his hands in her face. "Weren't you the one who said we shouldn't split up in the first place?"

"Yup." Rae nods and hands him Raegun. "Which is why I need to get Sunny back down here."

"I don't believe this." Ragnar mutters with a sigh.

"Believe it!" Rae snaps, slamming the galley door behind her. "Sunny?" Rae closes her eyes and stands perfectly still, listening. Laboured breathing. From deck. Rae climbed the stairs quickly, hands over her head.

Predictably, Sunny squeezed off a shot as soon as Rae emerged. Rae hit the ground and crawled for cover.

"Oh, that's sporting!" she yells from behind the boat-house. "Also, your aim is deteriorating."

"I told you not to frelling follow me!" Sunny shouts.

"And I decided I'm not going to let a frelling PEACEKEEPER tell me what to do!" Rae yells back. "You got a problem with that?"

"I've got a problem with you!"

"Obviously. So stop fweakin with the others."

"They won't listen to me."

"In case you haven't noticed, Sunny one so true, I'm the only one who refused to play along. You wanna fight over that? Put the gun down and face me like the honorable person I know you are."

"Hezmana no!" Sunny replied firmly, clutching her rifle tighter.

"Fine." Appearing behind her, Rae plucked the rifle out of Sunny's hands and tossed it across the deck. "I'll do it for you."

"Tralk."

Rae smiled and shrugged. "I've been called worse. Some of it was even true."

Sunny just stared at her.

"Okay." Rae said softly, shrugging. "You're scaring the others. It's not right. You got a problem with me, we'll deal with it. Like Peacekeepers if we have to. Or like reasonable adults. Whatever suits you."

"Listen to me, Rae." Sunny grabbed her by the shirt. "You are putting all the others in danger by not telling them what makes you vulnerable."

"You think so?" Rae stared down at Sunny's hands. "Ever occur to you that I'm trying to protect them?"

"No, it didn't. I think that's just your excuse."

Rae blinked in surprise. "You actually thought..." She stared out at the grey ocean. "Drenn, no wonder you got so pissed. Okay, listen, then. I'll tell you what scares me, and you can decide if you think the others need to know it."

"Sounds like a fair deal."

Rae gently removed Sun's hands from her shirt. "What scares me more than anything else is me."

"I beg your pardon?"

"I have a capacity inside of me, well beyond that of any other living creature I've encountered, to cause incredible destruction and pain, to enjoy it, and it scares me that it might get out. Do you really think it would help the others to know this?"

"I-" Sunny stared in confusion. "You're farbotz."

"Very much so, yes." Rae nodded. Then she pantac-jabbed Sunny and slung her over her shoulder. "Down we go, then."

"What happened?" Ragnar asked in alarm as Rae carried Sunny back into the galley.

"We had a nice talk." Rae smiled benignly up at him as she laid Sunny out on the table. "Could you be a dear and get her a glass of water? Thanks."

SunAeryn -- Sun sat up on the table, rubbing her

jaw, she looked at Rae, then the others..."Rae, next time, you had damn well better KILL me when you hit me like that." Sun shot out. She got off the table, "Now where's my rifle? Never mind, let's take this outside, I'm not finished with you, yet." Sun said, starring at Rae

Ragnar and the others backed up as Rae and Sun got closer together.
"You think you can take me?" Rae asked
"I'm not sure, but we do need to settle this. I am not about to give up, not without a fight anyway. I'm stubborn like that." Sun told Rae, motioning for the door.

"Um, ladies, is this a good time for this?" Ragnar wondered, worried that his longboat was going to get trashed if these two went at it.

IQ120 -- “STOP THIS!”

boomed the voice of IQ, from a corner of the room.

"I don't know about anyone else, but it seems to me that the two of you trying to kill one another isn't the best way to survive what horrors lie deep within the land we will soon reach. Our best chance for survival is our ability to work together, and our reliance upon each others skills and abilities will be of little use if we aren't."

Kaybe0 -- IQ’s right

said Kay in a much quieter voice. "Sunny, what you said was true. Talking about our fears, deffinately helps. I am much less afraid after hearing other's perspectives on them.(reaching over to pat a beaming Raegun) And, it also let's us know each others weaknesses, so that we can compensate for them, when the need arises. It's very important to know what to expect. And, Rae, we are a team. One of the best teams around. I realize you may not want to share your fear. And, certainly, we will respect your wishes (raising an eye at Sun), but, to bring up a very old addage, sometimes the worst fear is fear, itself. We usually fear things that have never happened, or never will. And our group will do anything to help each other. That's what trust is all about. And, sticking together will get us through anything. And, besides,(glancing over at a still very nervous looking Jila), I know peacekeepers are a tough breed, but, what if you two were up there having it out, and something happened to us down here? Some of us still aren't totally convinced all will be well."
Before she could continue, the boat heaved a violent jerk, and then shook almost as if it were shivering. Then, there was dead silence.

JilaCosa -- With the shivering of the Longboat...

Jila slid under the table and into the convenient hole between the refrigerator and the wall. Fighting and yelling, there was always somebody fighting and yelling. Jila squats down, sitting on her heels, ducks her head, and covers it with her arms. She feels more and more like the young girl she was when her parents would fight and yell in the room beneath her bedroom. The tears flow down her cheeks in streams. If only Rae hadn't cut the lock off her door. Perhaps she could will herself to become smaller and smaller, and Maybe with all of their personal issues, they wounldn't notice that she was missing again. Hopefully they wouldn't think to ask her what she was afraid of. She couldn't tell them anyway. It wasn't anything tangible, like spiders or psychos, and it wasn't fear itself. Perhaps it was the nightmares afterwards that she was really afraid of. In the absolute dark and in the place you should be the most safe, your own unconscious/subconscious mind, was where the worst things happened. Jila had never quite learned the particulars of manipulating her dreams so they always ended up manipulating her. And scaring her almost to death. Literally. Perhaps they won't find her this time.

RagnarRB -- Ragnar watched and listened

and wondered what was coming over the gang. They seemed panicky and they hadn't even touched land yet.

Getting too close to Romance Land with all these hormonially susecptable Scobettes, now that was a scary thought. Least for one Viking anyway. The Phantom? No, not at all. The Phantom was a prankster. A tosser of pies. His thrills came from suprising you, manipulating you...and tweeking In2Scifi, but hey she was still off with the good Dr. Teeth doing a little tweeking of her own. Even the Phantom wouldn't mess with that honeymoon.

No these were all signs of people who had too much time to think and nothing really to think about.

This could get interesting.

Ragnar went in search of his toothbrush. He would worry about seperating when they made landfall. If there was surely one way to annoy the Phantom it was to ignore him...well that and try to get him in a e-mail conversation...

He began humming a cheerful tone to himself as he exited.

"....where am I going I don't know. When will I get there, I'm not certain, all I know is I am on my way...got a dream boys, got a song..."

Hmmm....were the Brownies of Doom still stached where the Ticker had left them?

Raven-Kat -- Rae sat down

in the corner, next to Sunny. "Hey." she whispered.

"Hey." Sun whispered back.

"So, uh..."

"Yeah." Sunny nodded.

"Look..."

"If we don't have this out now..."

"We've pretty much frelled any chance at a relationship..."

"We'll never be able to function as any kind of cohesive unit..."

"Unless we have it out. Yeah..." Rae sighs. "And here I was hoping we'd be able to deal with it like reasonable adults."

"Oh, yeah. THAT'S gonna happen." Sunny whispered with a grin. "Uh, now?"

"It's as good a time as any." Rae says with a shrug. "Weapons?"

"Fists and feet." Sunny says.

"Great. Ring?"

"Fine."

"Victory parameters? Three knock-downs? First blood? Concession?"

"Concession, of course." Sunny says, knowing that if the two fight until one conceeds they might both end up in veeeery bad shape.

Rae, who is also wise to this particular fact of life, nods. "I'll teleport us to a ring."

"Them?" Sunny asks, nodding around the room.

"I don't think they need to be a part of this." Rae says. "They'd probably feel obliged to interfere. Again."

"Can't have that. Besides, they're probably so wrapped up in their own problems right now that they won't notice we've gone until we get back." Sunny smiles.

"Just as well." Rae says with a shrug. "Ready, then?"

"I'm trusting to your honor, here, you know."

"And I to yours." Rae bows to Sunny, revealing the back of her neck. "Are we agreed, then?"

"Clean, fists and feet, in a ring. Victory by concession only."

"Very well." Rae shakes Sunny's hand.

By the time the handshake is through, they are standing in a large, caged boxing ring. The PK logo is painted across the floor, and the observer's seats are empty.

ArtistStudio -- ArtistStudio didn’t notice Rae and Sunny

teleport away. He was too sunk in his own misery. He really didn't want to go to Horror land. And he didn't want to tell his companions about the dream...

In his dream he was in a bar with his friends when a beautiful woman approached him. Her figure was perfect and her hair and eyes superb. He smiled at her. She smiled at him and he noticed just a hint of fang. But when he looked into her eyes he couldn't look away.

"Follow me." she said.

And he did.

Everything after that was a blur for a while until suddenly they were standing in the middle of a circle of people wearing long, dark robes. The woman was gesturing for him to lie down on top of a stone altar. ArtistStudio realized he was in a very dangerous situation. He tried to leave but the woman grabbed his arm before he could.

"I said lie down." she told him.

"No, I won't." he said. "I want no part of this. This is wrong."

She fixed him with her hypnotic gaze again but this time he was ready for it. He had powers of his own and he used them to combat her hypnotic powers.

So she reached over and, with the ease of long practice, broke his neck. Not the kind of broken neck that kills you instantly. This was the kind of broken neck that paralyzed you.

ArtistStudio, numb from the neck down, collapsed into the woman's arms. She lifted him up like he weighed nothing and layed him out on the altar. He couldn't move. He could barely breathe. All he could do was lay there and listen to the vampires chanting and singing. It seemed to go on for hours. Then, one by one, the vampires came up and bit his throat and sucked a little blood.

It hurt. It really hurt. Artist tried to scream but he couldn't even do that. He could only make gurgling noises as one by one the vampires sucked his life away.

Then the vampires left. He was alone on the slab of rock. His neck was broken and he had lost far too much blood to recover from. Slowly he sank into unconciousness, fully aware that there would be no awakening for him...

Artist came back to himself with a start. He was still sitting in the longboat's galley listening to everyone natter on about their worst fears. But the dream was still there, in the back of his mind. And he was very much afraid that it wasn't just a dream but a premonition...

JilaCosa -- <SPLAT>......<SPLAT><SPLAT>

<SPLAT>............. <SPLAT> <SPLAT>

The sound of the three pies hitting the top to the table, bottom side up, took the Scoobs quickly out of their personal nightmares. Some of the ladies scream, especially Jila as she tries crawling farther back into her corner. The excess whipped cream sprays out of the pans, catching everyone still gathered around the table.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Do you really think you have what it takes to survive?"

The pies fly through the door, keeping the gang at bay for a moment.

"Something has got to be done about this guy!"

Sixth Sense Dreamer -- And the fog rolled in....

6th sat on the galley table, an array of weaponry spread out before her on the long table. She sat in lotus position, running a whetstone slowly up the blade of a long curved sword. She wasn't too worried about her fears, they were not the type she figured would show up in horror land. Like running out of money, for instance. But she wasn't about to do anything here without being prepared for...whatever. And she knew deamons bled.

The phantom? 6th chuckled to herself. He was an amusement...she wasn't sure if the entire gang knew exactly what went on here in Horror Land...well, maybe Rae, and Ragnar certainly had to. But 6th had done some traveling too, mostly for work, and somehow rescue missions almost always ended up here...so 6th knew what was coming, and she didn't think the gang needed the details,as scared as some of them already were. Psychos, haunted houses of the worst kind, demons of all sorts and flavors, ghosts(bad ones, Ghosty, not nice ones like you!), vampires, possessed anything and everything, and then the ultimate Evil and those who served it--6th wondered if Damien was still lurking around...and that just scratched the surface. Things that haunted reality, things that haunted your dreams, things that you couldn't see until they were ripping into you... So 6th had gathered up all of her weapons as soon as she knew where they were headed. The best she could do was to be ready...

Suddenly she heard a shout.

"Where the Hezmana is that fog coming from?" came Rae's voice. 6th's head came up at the word 'fog'. She leapt off the table, sword in hand, yelling for Rae.

"Rae, get down here! Get everyone..." 6th skidded to a stop as she came on deck. The ship was surrounded by a dense fogbank. Vision was impossible beyond the ship and the fog was rolling slowly closer.

Then she was knocked sprawling as the gang crashed into her from behind.

"What's the yelling for?" Kara snapped at her, "Aren't we scared enough?"

"Not by half yet." 6th gestured to the oncoming fog, then yelled "RAE!"

Rae came stalking up, Sunny right behind her. Assorted bruises were beginning to show on various parts of their body, and 6th figured they had gone on with their sparring. She had only been listening with half an ear to the conversations.

"What is---" Rae trailed off as the fog spilled over the railing of the boat and started to spill over her feet. Her lips pursed in a tight line."Oh, just frelling great. Is this the fog from S. King's 'The Mist' or the fog from 'The Fog'?"

"I have a feeling that it's ten times worse than both." 6th muttered, eyeing the fog as it snaked tendrils around her feet. She held her sword low in both hands, her eyes sweeping in arcs for any sort of movement from the fogbank. "You guys need to get back down below. In one room, all together, like Rae says." 6th didn't look to see if they moved, so she jumped a bit when Mouse said, "I can't find the way back to the galley. The fog's too thick!" Panic was starting to seep into some of the murmuring she heard behind her. 6th looked at Rae and Sunny.

"Where's your weapons?" she asked, as the gang drew into a tighter circle. Sunny held up her fists defiantly, and Rae said, "We can handle it. I'd hate to take off someone's head thinking it was a bad guy in this fog."

6th raised one eyebrow at Rae. Was she insinuating...? Nah, 6th srugged, and hefted her sword, watching the tip slide into the fog as it grew closer.

"Hold hands then. Everyone, keep a grip on everyone else. Someone hold my shoulder."

"Gotcha." Artist said, his other hand held in a death grip by Kara.

"Don't let go and slowly edge back to where the galley should be." 6th said, never taking her eyes off the rolling fog. She saw Rae nod, but that was about the last thing 6th could make out, as the fog rolled in thick and heavy. With it came sounds. Awful sounds. Leathery scraping. A footstep, heavy and clicking where claws touched wooden planking. A low gutteral growl.

"Rag, you armed?" 6th said aloud, not sure where Rag was exactly.

"You know it." Came his booming voice from nearby. 6th called out to the rest of them, vocally locating them on the deck. She listened to the sounds around her in the fog. *Ah, DREN!* she thought.

"They're going to rush..." was all she had time to get out before she was slammed into from something hot and scaly.

The fight was short, and 6th was startled to see the fog rolling away after what seemed like only a few minutes at the most. She was almost afraid to look around her at the deck of the Longboat, afraid of who she might see lying there.

But there was no one laying shredded on the deck. No monsters either, and 6th knew she'd gutted at least three. WHatever they were. Then she realized soemething.

"Rag!" she yelled, "Jila! Kara, Artist, Mouse! Oh Frell! Everyone! Where are you guys? Rae? Someone?"

"I'm right here." Rae snapped from behind her.

"Where's Sunny? Where's the gang?"

Rae looked around the deck. Then she got to her knees and crawled around for a while, carefully examining the deck where they had all stood, as 6th watched the fog slowly rolling back the way it had come.

Rae stood up after a moment. "Taken. No blood anywhere. SO none of the gang is hurt, unless they were eaten whole..." she looked at 6th. "Nah. So that means whatever is in the fog doesn't bleed either."

"You hit some too, huh?"

"One. But I think it recognized me. Whatever they were, they kept backing off from me."

"Lucky." 6th muttered, grinning at Rae, and holding up the sleeve of her shirt, where something had torn a long gash in the material. Rae promptly grabbed her arm and examined it, but 6th's shirt was the only thing torn.

"I think they were split off into several groups, but I really have no way of telling who went where." Rae said.

"Not a problem. Come with me." 6th said, giving the retreating fogbank one last glance. The two girls headed back to the galley, and 6th rummaged through her backpack, handing Rae a box that looking like a cross between a pair of binoculars and a readout scanner.

"Picks up footprints and residual body heat. Let me just grab some stuff and we'll go back on deck, and find out who went where with what."

6th grabbed an armload of equipment, sized up Rae with her eyes, and grabbed another bag. They hurried back up on deck, where the fog could still be seen, rolling away in the distance.

"You look, and tell me who went where. I've got to get ready." 6th said, sitting down and slipping her boots off.

Rae began scanning the deck through the box. "Pretty nifty gadget." she murmured, as the little readout began listing whose footprints were whose, the Gang's body heat and footprints glowing in the scanner. Other 'things' showed up as well, and Rae couldn't repress a shudder at some of the creatures the scanner listed out.

"Ok." she said after a moment. "According to this, most of the gang were taken in that direction, by some fug-uglies. they were all apparently wearing Phantom getup--it has his signature written all over it. For all I know, it could just be the Phantom's henchmen dressed up like....that....to scare us. But...Artist..." Rae stopped as 6th came to peer over her shoulder at the readout. "Where did you get...that?" she asked. 6th was dressed in black leather straps from head to toe, a body suit of thick straps, each strap lined with 6-inch long black metal spikes. The spikes ran down her arms, jutting out at her elbows, up the sides of her legs, across her front, and up her spine. She had a black helment tucked under one arm, an evil looking thing made out of the skull of some really odd and frightening looking creature. A long glistening black sword hung from each of her hips, another two slung over her shoulders. 6th grinned a little wicked grin.

"You aren't the only one with a past." was all 6th said. "Now what about Artist?"

"He was taken in that direction by...well...I'm not sure. There wasn't any energy signature."

"Vampires." 6th muttered. She bent down and slipped a glowing amulet over her neck, the one she had 'borrowed' from Raistlin. "K, here's the plan as I see it. There's two of us, and two groups of the gang. The phantom should be a snap for you to take care of on your own. I'll handle whatever got Artist."

"Uh-uh. No splitting up, remember?" Rae shook her head.

"That was for them. You and I both know that those rules don't apply to us, like it does with them."

"Well, maybe not for me, but you?" Rae said.

"Look, after we get the gang back, and get off this Frelling island, we can sit down with some of Rag's ale, and I'll tell you my long sordid history, but we really don't have time for that now, do we." 6th said.

Rae slowly shook her head. "I just don't want you to get...hurt going off and doing something you can't do."

"Like rescue an illusionist from a bunch of vampires? Who ever said that I haven't done that before?" 6th grinned. "I've done a lot. I'll be fine, Rae. Now, you sure the whole gang went with the phantom baddies?"

"According to this the entire gang did. All but Artist. I wonder what the phantom is trying to pull? And why not Artist?"

"Maybe the vampires took that opportunity to grab him. Maybe the phantom will be real upset when all of us don't show up. Who knows? We need to head." 6th grasped Rae's hand in her own for a moment. "I'll see you shortly." she said, "Feel free to use any of the stuff I've left lying there. You can give it back to me when I see you again." She sat on the railing and looked at Rae. "Get going Rae. The gang needs you." and she dropped off the railing.

Rae ran over and peered down at 6th, who was loping off over land, heading into the growing darkness. Rae looked at the the secret agent, then down at the sand bar the long boat had run aground on. *How the hezmana had 6th known they'd run aground? She didn't even look down before she jumped!* Rae thought. She'd definately have to sit down with 6th later. *Just when you thought you had the girl figured out, she pulled out something else to suprise you.* Rae said to herself as she hurriedly prepared to follow the gang, and stop the Phantom from whatever nefarious deed he had planned. And tried not to worry about 6th.

KaraS -- Prisoners of the Phantom

KaraS woke up in a dungeon. It was constructed of thick, cold stone and she was hanging from manacles attatched to her wrists. It felt like her shoulders were being pulled out of her body. She stood up, leaning against the chilly wall, trying to get her bearings.

Kara looked around. It was a very small cell and she was alone in it. In the distance she heard someone screaming, it sounded like Jila.

"Jila!" she called. "Jila, is that you?"

If it was Jila she didn't hear her and kept right on screaming.

"Ragnar? Artist? Vi? Kaybee? Rae? Anybody?? Can anybody hear me?" Kara yelled.

Trembling, Kara waited for an answer...
