Corporal Mendez -- “You heard the man.”

Mendez shouts to the tank-driver, stepping in before anyone has time to question IQ #5 further. "He's FBI. You really want to frell around with that?" Mendez winces at his inadvertant use of the word 'frell', but fortunately no one else notices it.

"What's your involvment in this, Corporal?" a lieutenant demands, stepping forward.

"I'm liasion between Special Agent in Charge Sunaeryn and my unit!" Mendez snaps. "Now you do as this man says or I'll bring you all to the attention of Section Chief Katlyn! Is that what you really want? Sir?" Mendez demands, not believing his own gall.

"Take him to the C.O.!" the Lt. shouts. "You, get on the phone with this Agent Katlyn and find out what we can do to make Sunaeryn's job easier! Move!"

Kaybe0 -- Not believing her ears

Kay stays hidden with the others. In spite of the fear and tension, she can't help but smile at the words of the young soldier. What in the world have Sun and Rae been doing to the poor guy?

Corporal Mendez -- Turning slowly,

Mendez sees a face peering out at him from behind two crates. He tilts his head at her and smiles. "Miss. Anything I can do to help you today? Seems I've just been promoted."

"No. We're good." Kay smiles a little nervously at him.

"And you are?"

"I'm Kay, Kaybe."

"And miss Kaybe, what can I do to make your people's job easier?"

IQ120 -- #5....

...was taken to see Corporal Mendez's superiors.

"One of my men says you are FBI, another says CIA, another says NSA." Began the C.O. "So! Who are you?"

"I'm afraid you don't have the clearance to ask who I am." said #5

"Oh!" Says the C.O. "Well then what do you want?"

IQ thought for a moment, "I want your people to give my people room to work"

"OK, but I want you to keep one of my men in the loop so he can report back to me."

"Very Well," said IQ, "Send Corporal Mendez."

Corporal Mendez -- *Mom was right...*

Mendez sighs, *I should have joined the National Forest Service...* He walks up to IQ #5, "Okay, sir. What do you need?"

Kaybe0 -- Kay had just told the corporal

that he could keep them informed on what the military was doing to make their job easier, when he was called away. The poor guy was starting to feel like a double spy. Except both sides were on the same side. Kay ducked back behind the crates. Wow. That guy was cute. But the main problem was still out there sounding more confused than mean. Ragnar had been right in trying to find out what it wanted. But, would they be able to help it? Jila saw the look on Kay's face when she looked at Corporal Mendez. Laughing, she said "First things first, Kay. Monster, then cute guy."

SunAeryn -- Sun noticed Kay’s response to

Mendez
Careful to sheild her thoughts so ONLY Kay would hear them, Sun proceeded.
*Kay, dear, I invaded his mind...I get him first!* Sun ended the thought with an image of a big smile, so Kay would know that, while Sun was serious, Kay would know that she's not in trouble.

"Sun, what the frell are you grinnin' at?" Rae asked
"Nothing. Sorry, got distracted. Won't happen again" Sun answered. She knew better than to let thoughts like that distract her, especially in battle.
*Man, I've been here to long. Being here is making changes that could get someone hurt, especially if I don't control my thoughts* Sun thought to herself, not realizing that for some reason, her thoughts traveled to Mendez
*HUH? Been 'here' to long? Lady, what does that mean?* Mendez wondered
*Um...here, as in the airport, Mendez. Sorry. I thought I had...never mind. It would take to much time to explain it now. Sorry* Sun responded, making sure Mendez didn't feel what she was feeling

*Sun, are you paying attention?* Rae asked, still staring up at the Monster
*Yeah, what?* Sun asked
*I need you to see if you can read this things thoughts. Maybe it will help us to figure out why it wants Laeryn and maybe where she is* Rae commanded
*K, I'll try* Sun answered, clearing her mind of everyone else but the Monster.
Sun started walking towards Rae and the Monster, so she could get a better connection with it. With all the people around her...all the worried and scared people, it was hard for her to focus on just the Monster.
*Why do you want Laeryn? Do you know where she is?* Sun thought gently to the Monster
Suddenly, Sun grabbed her head, the force of the Monster's thoughts was very strong.....he was telling her........

Raven-Kat -- “If I KNEW where she was,

silly mortal," the monster thought at Sun, "I would TAKE her and go!"

"Hey!" Rae yells at the monster, catching Sun's arm. "Watch it! You trying to blow her mind out?"

"Sorry..." the monster says softly. "Better?"

"Better." Rae nods and leads Sunny to a chair. "But in the future, let's stick with verbal communication. You still haven't told us what you want with the girl, which is going to determine, in large part, if we help you."

"What does she mean, 'in large part'?" Mouse hisses at Sunny.

Suddenly, every mind within a half-mile is accousted with a series of mental images.

"You're a nanny." Rae whispers, climbing to her feet. "I don't understand... She's not human?"

"Changeling..." Sunny mutters, looking up at the monster. "How long has your species been farming its kids out to us?"

"Not their kids..." Rae mutters as the mental images begin to clarify. "Servant-race... What... there was an accident?"

*No, a war.* Mendez thinks at them. *They sent the children away...*

"To be safe." Rae nods. "But something happened? You couldn't retrieve them right away, and suddenly everything just kind of spun out of control?"

"Yes." More mental images accompany the affirmative, an attempt to explain a concept that is, for the monster, beyond words. The Scoobs understand it at once: loss.

"We have to find her." Rae whispers, not even bothering to pick herself up from the floor this time. *Do you hear me, guys? We have to find her!*

Kaybe0 -- A tear slid down Kay’s cheek

As she started understanding what was going on. HOw sad. She noticed Jila's and the other Scoobettes were trying to control their own emotions and blinking a lot. All the Scoobs stood up at that moment. They knew as one, that they would do whatever it took, no matter what it took, to help. The monster, frightened of all the new faces popping up from behind crates, started sending out laser rays. Rae yelled for him to stop, and very calmly introduced the Scoobs as her friends. "They are all here to help", said Sunny.

Chryse74 -- “Help?”

"You will help me find Laeryn?" asks the huge being.

The scoobs nod their head, some tearfully. "Of course we will help you. Now that we know why you want her." replied Chryse with tears in her eyes.

"Right, so let's get to it, " said Rae, "Spyral, you got anything in that wing of yours that could help us track her? And anyone know if Ragnar is ok now? Mouse? You were keeping an eye on him right?"

Raegun -- “If I may....”

Raegun begins gently, not really wishing to intrude on this moment that he has no way of sharing in himself. "Draig's theory of stellar physics states..."

"In English, please, Raegun, honey." Rae whispers.

"Of course, I'm sorry. Once two objects have shared a space, their energy signatures alter, each to more closely resemble the other."

"This... 'Gunnie can help us find her?" the monster asks softly, looking down at him.

"He might." Rae says. "Go on, sweetie."

"Well, Spyral and Laeryn shared a very close space before the... ah... unpleasantness. Therefore, Spyral's energy signature now more closely matches Laeryn's than it did before. I have a reading from before his vacation, and based upon my extrapolations, I have a very good idea of what her signature must look like."

"Just like that?" Sun asks.

"Just like that." Raegun affirms.

"'Gunnie, you are a genius!" Rae picks him up and kisses him. Putting him back on the seat, she says, "Begin your scan. Let us know if you need more power."

SeventhAngel -- Revelations

As Raegun continued his scan of the angels energy signature, the angel moved forward to address the giant metal beast.

"I think you're neglecting to mention something," he directed his comment to the gleaming monster.

*And THAT would BE?* the voice echoed in the 'Scoobs' minds.

"The Other One," the angel replied evenly.

*Other?* the beast answered. *I do not know....*

"The one that got here before you." the angel pushed. "The one that took the girl and bolted, AFTER conveniently leveling me, that is. Who or What is it? And what does it want with the girl?"

The monster seemed to pause, as if unwilling to share this bit of information.

The other 'Scoobs gathered around the angel in anticipation of the answer.

"Look," the angel continued. "I don't know what the frell is going on, but take a look around. This place is a war-zone. Whatever that thing was that took the girl obviously was in one HELL of a hurry to get the frell away from here, before YOU got here. Like maybe it was being pursued by you? Or maybe just trying to reach the girl before YOU did! Now what does it want with her?"

*That is........... Complicated...* the beast answered hesitantly.

"We're used to complications," Rae assured it.

"And we don't take another step until you share with the rest of the class," Jila added.

*The children were sent away for their own protection from our enemies.* he began. *It was hoped that the flower of our planets youth, that was our children, would be spared the sacrifice of their parents. The ULTIMATE sacrifice, that our enemies might be defeated and our planet would be saved for the eventual return of our children, who would then rebuild our civilization.*

"Whoa, whoa," Kay shook her head. "Is this going to fast for everyone else too, or is it jsut me?"

"What sacrifice?" the angel asked. "And who are these enemies?"

*Long ago... my people, the Baynaed, lived a life of peace and harmony. Our planet was a paradise that was rivaled only by that that may exist beyond Life itself. We lived for song, and art. War, famine, destruction, these were concepts long extinct to us. Until the coming of the Qu'uatyne. 'The'Dark Bringers'. With their combination of Dark Magic and even darker technology, they sought to leave the "Quag", their fetid homeworld, and make our world their own. They began with an attack on one of our outer moons. Wiping the entire population from the face of the planet. We knew their destruction would not stop there. So it was decided that in order to survive the encounter, my people would have to make use of a long forgotten technology. A technology that would entail a sacrifice. Our very humanity.*

"...that suit..." IQ said softly, as he was the first to understand. "You're grafted into it....aren't you? You gave up your humanity to....somehow be.... merged...... with it"

*...yes...* the beast continued. *We possess a technology that combines life essense with these suits of battle armor. It provided my people with the power to fight our enemies. But we pay a price for this power. The process is......irreversible.*

"You can't go back..." IQ said quietly.

*The body of they who sacrifices, is.........destroyed......in the grafting process....*

"So you sacrificed your own lives, and sent your children away, in the hopes that you could defeat your enemies, and one day...........your children could come home," Kay said, wiping her eyes of the tears that now flowed their.

"So what went wrong?" the angel asked.

*The war was almost at an end. Victory was certain to be ours.....until.... Our enemies discovered that we had sent our children away. With the intention of them one day returning to make our world live again. Knowing that they were almost certainly defeated, and that WE, the Sacrificed, could never retrieve our OWN humanity and continue our existence, the Qu'uantyne decided that if they were to cease to exist, that they would ensure the end of our existence as well.*

"They're after the children," Rae said. "They're going to hunt them down and destroy them so that your species will die out."

"MY GOD!" Mouse said. "Planetary genocide."

*They have focused all their energies on this. Scattered their remaining forces thruout the universe, in an attempt to find our progeny, and destroy them. Laeryn..... is one of the last.*

"Then we have to find her!" Jila said.

"Provided she's still alive," Mendez added. "If the bad guys' intention was to kill her, then how do we know...." he trailed off.

*She exists still,* the monster interuppted. *Her life monitor is still strong. Even though I cannot locate her, I know she still is among the living.*

"Then she must have gotten away," Spyral said. "And we gotta find her, and FAST!"

"Raegun?" Rae asked. "Have you got a lock on her yet?"

"It's weak," Raegun said. "But I've got a signal. 'Bout ten sectors southeast of here."

"Then lets get rolling!" Spyral said.

Raven-Kat -- “I’m not sure, but....”

Rae looks into the creature's eyes for comfirmation. "Yeah, I KNOW these guys."

"WHAT?" the Scoobs demand.

"Ease up! I didn't say I went out and got drunk with them on Friday nights. But my people are aware of them."

Sunny looks up. "Then how come I've never..."

"Well-kept secret. Knowledge of a species that powerful would frelling shatter troop morale, and you know it. They could have us in a second."

"You saying these guys could take down the Peacekeepers?" Spy asks. "ALL of them?"

"In a heartbeat. Even if we united with the off-shoot species, it wouldn't be much of a competition." Rae shrugs placidly. "It's amazing the kind of things that Central Intel can keep secret when it suits them."

"Were you planning on... I don't know, TELLING us about this?" Chryse asks, frowning.

"No. I saw no reason."

"Frell." Sunny mutters.

"Face it. Earth couldn't handle an invasion, and they'd be no better off knowing. Besides, um, nothing personal, but your planet just isn't of that much interest to off-worlders. Not really worth the trouble of even invading."

"Son of a--" Mendez mutters softly.

*Sorry, son, but it's true.*

"Frell." Mendez sighs. "Humans are..."

*Superior, I know, I know.* Rae smiles and walks quickly towards a service-door. "Let's move, people!" she calls over one shoulder. "The Dark Bringers aren't not going to wait all day!"

"God, she sounds happy." Chryse marvels.

Sun shrugs and follows. "It's Rae!" she calls over her shoulder.

On the tarmac, Rae walks straight through a line of soldiers and over to Mendez, still talking with the other Scoobs. "So, you're he?"

"Yes, ma'am." He salutes.

Rae returns the salute. "Hey, guys. Has the Corporal been keeping you briefed?"

IQ #6 nods. "Yeah. Blow by blow coverage of the big event."

"You're out of your frelling mind." IQ #4 adds.

Rae laughs and blushes, as though IQ #4 has just paid her a compliment. "Mendez, you're coming with us."

"What, but..." Mendez looks shocked, and gestures towards his C.O.

"You!" Rae shouts, pointing to the C.O. "Lt. Col. Katlyn, US Air-Force, Majestic division."

The C.O. stares.

"You've heard of our work, then?" Rae smiles. "Good. That makes this easier."

"Makes what easier, ma'am?"

"I'm going to have to ask you to withdraw your troops."

"I can't do that without a direct order from..." he hesitates as Rae grabs a cell-phone from IQ #1 and begins dialing. "Yeah, Katlyn here. Can I speak with the General? Thanks. Hey! Lane, sweetie, I've got a bit of a situation here."

The C.O. stares as Rae hands him the phone.

"General Lane Parker for you, line one."

The C.O. takes the phone. "Hello?"

Rae smiles and turns her attention back to the Scoobs. "So, let's get loaded into the cars and moved out."

"Ma'am? Who's my C.O. talking to?"

Rae looks up at him with a grin. "The head of Majestic 12. You've heard of them?"

"Uh... I didn't think they really existed."

"Come on, son. It's damned near impossible to get things done the way this man's army works. Black Ops is a must."

"Right." Mendez nods uncertainly. "And you're on a first-name basis..."

Rae smiles. "I'm full of surprises, son."

"Do they know about you? I mean... you're not being human?"

"Of course they do." Rae shrugs. "Trying to join was probably less than wise. They nailed me on the physical." She shakes her head with a little smile. "Fortunately, they're... reasonable people. We came to an arangement."

"An arangemnt? Frell!" Mendez shakes his head in awe.

"Look, Parker will take care of things from the miltary end, and she'll probably even manage to maintain a decently low profile for all of this insanity, but she'll expect us to clean it up quickly, so can we PLEASE move?"

"Are you in the habit of cleaning up after the military, Rae?" IQ asks carefully.

Rae tries to look innocent. "Me? Of course not. I'm a consultant." She smiles and loads Mendez into the back of one of the vans. "Someone give me another cell-phone, please. I'll assemble a coinatinment crew. Save Parker some foot-work."

"I don't believe this!" Spy mutters.

"Hey, how else am I supposed to maintain Sebacia's zero-presence profile on your planet if I'm not closely involved in the Coverup? My gods! My very presence here constitutes an act of war, a fact that my good friends at Majestic are more than happy to overlook in exchange for services rendered." She dials the phone. "Agent Stanton please. Tell him it's Rae. Yes. Hold. Seven-Ten-Charlie-Five-Niner-Delta-Tango-Bravo-Two-Five-One-Eight-Three-Foxtrot-Omega." Rae waits a dew moments. "Ah, Alan!" she says in a cheerful voice. "It's Rae! We have a situation. Yeah, the airport..." Rae sighs and pulls out a notebook. "Someone hand me another phone, please. Gunnie, could you take care of establishing a paper-trail. Oh, no Agent... Just a new operative of mine. No, Alen. Born and bred right here on Terra. Back to business, then. I'm going to need a containment crew here, ASAP. No, negative on that. In pursuit of hostile E.B.E. now. My team has that covered. Right..."

As the others look on, Rae begins orchestrating the cover-up. The van, thanks to several modifications by the IQ's is able to navigate itself, via an uplink with Raegun.

Kaybe0 -- Watching Rae with her mouth open

Kay couldn't get over the way Rae handled everything all at
once. Even though she did it all the time. Heck, She could have probably handled most of the battle in the desert a couple years ago by herself and done a better job.
Mendez looked so in awe of the Scoobs, who never thought of themselves as anything other than regular. Jila and Mouse giggled at what he was probably thinking. Kay was so worried about Laryn. She just had to be okay. Along with the other children.

SunAeryn -- *Don’t look at me.....*

Mendez, I don't know anymore than you do. Hell, I'm surprised daily that they haven't caught on to me.* Sun whispers to Mendez, and Mendez only. Granted, Rae is good, but she's not that good. No one here realized just exactly the strength of Sun's "talent". It had been so long...that she had forgotten it's strength as well.

Sun turned quickly in her seat...everyway...she could hear a faint voice, very week in her mind....
*help.....me......wingedOne.......please.....to....weak.....can't....run.....*
"Rae, Spy, We need to talk." Sun menioned, looking at Rae, and not Spy
"What, Sunny?" Rae asked...not looking at her, she was still on the phones working on covering up the mess at the airport.
"Rae! I know you don't really trust me, yet...but you have to stop talking on those phones long enough to LISTEN to me." Sun remarked rather loudly, hoping to catch Rae's attention
"Sunny, what is it?" Spy said....noticing the tone in Sun's voice.
Sunny couldn't bare to look at Spy.

*How do I tell him that she's getting weaker?* Sun thought to herself
*You don't...you just get them there as fast as you can* the voice told her. Sunny tried to identify it...but she couldn't. It was a new voice. She wasn't afraid of it....
*Frellin' great...now another one.* Sunny shakes her head
*I will reveal myself when the time comes, until then...you must trust me...and get your friends to Laeryn quickly* the voice chuckled
"Sunny, what's so damned important that I had to hang up." Rae asked, trying to read Sunny's mind
"Hey, what's the big idea?" Rae asked, when she realized she couldn't.
*Sorry Rae, but....I'm getting stronger...I could hurt you and not mean to* was all Sun said to Rae
"Rae, Spy, I can hear Laeryn...she's very faint. We have to hurry. I don't think the Darkwhatevers have her anymore...but I can't be sure." Sunny told them...trying not to let Spy know how weak Lareyn's voice was.
Spy just sat there...the van kept moving in the direction Raegun was leading them in.

It was very silent. Sun kept trying to reach Laeryn, to let her know help was on the way...
*Laeryn, my name is SunAeryn, I am a friend of "wingedOne", Spyral, we are on our way to rescue you...please hold on.* Sun kept repeating hoping that Laeryn would respond.

*hurry....please...........so.........tired.....* was all Laeryn could say

Raven-Kat -- “Frell...”

Rae mutters, setting aside her phone. She broadcasts loudly at Sun, *This is getting out of my leauge.*

Sun blinks, then nods slowly. "So, what next?"

"Um..." Rae stares at her notebook. "Well, the airport clean-up is coming on well; no worries there. Now we just have to do what Scoobs do best."

Sunny nods and begins to speak, when Raegun interupts.

"Guys!"

"Not now." Rae mutters, returning her attention to Sunny.

"Right now!" Raegun says firmly. "I'm picking up an anomalous energy signature."

Rae frowns. "How anomalous?"

"Looks like a dimensional rift."

"Frell!" Rae pounds her fist against the roof of the van a few times. "Is she there? Can you trace her?"

"Her energy signature is weakening." Raegun announces after a long silence. "The atmosphere is not agreeing with her. She does not have long."

There's a long silence, then Mendez speaks.

"Frell."

SeventhAngel -- On the road

As the 'Scapers entered the area of the city known as the Industrial section, Spyral turned to Raegun.

"Have you got an accurate fix on her?" he asked.

"I'm having trouble centering in on her," the pulse rifle replied. "There is an anomalous reading that is causing a disruption in her energy signature. It's making her difficult to maintain a fix on her position."

"What KIND of anomalous reading?" Rae asked.

"I can't be sure," Raegun replied. "But whatever it is, it's energy signature is off the scale."

"It's wreaking havoc with the sensors and communications," IQ said from the computer console in the back. "It's lighting up my boards like a Christmas tree."

"That's gotta be our Bad Guy!" the angel said.

"Gunny, focus on the anomalous reading," Jila said. "If we find 'IT' then we might be able to find Laeryn."

"Or at least take that thing out before IT reaches her," the angel added.

"IQ, get Ragnar on the vidphone and ]update, him, sunny and the others on the situation," Rae said.

"Gunny?" Mouse asked. "Didn't you say something about another rift forming in the area?"

"I am reading a massive buildup of Intermittent Tertiary Photonic particulates not far from where the anomalous readings are centered," Gunny replied.

"Is someone phoning home?" the angel wondered aloud.

"Or calling for reinforcements," Rae added darkly.

Raven-Kat -- “This.... is bad.”

Rae mutters. "We may have to evacuate the whole city."

"I thought you said these guys weren't interested in Earth!" Mendez howls.

Rae shrugs. "I still maintain that they aren't. It's probably a reprisal of some sort. Nothing to worry about."

"NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT?" Mendez yells. "Come on!"

"Look, I'm just going to call the general and see what kind of strings it's going to take to get this area clear of civilians. Sunny, could you calm this guy down?"

Mendez eyes Sunny with a gulp.

SunAeryn -- Sunny looks at Mendez, then

at Rae, then back at Mendez.
"Will do Rae. I'll calm him down. He won't worry about a thing." Sunny said, with a wicked glee in her eye.

Mendez, gulped again.
Rae chuckled *You are going to scare that poor boy, you know that don't you?*
*I'm not going to hurt him. Just calm him down. Geez, he looks like I'm about to frell his mind.* Sunny thought, to Rae, looking at Mendez, turning white as a sheet.

"Mendez, I'm not going to hurt you *or frell your mind*. You do need to calm down...so, tell you what...why don't you think of a nice calming place. Ok?" Sunny said, walking towards Mendez, who starts to back away.
"Oh, come on, you big chicken. If you keep going on like this...the others are going to get even more nervous than they are. We need them to remain calm. So we can get this creature and Laeryn together and out of here." Sunny says, putting an arm around Mendez's shoulders.

Mendez looks at Sunny
"Ok, I'll calm down, you just stay the frell *why do I keep using that word?* out of my mind. It's creepy." Mendez tells Sun
"Ok, fair enough *maybe because you like it?*" Sunny smiles.
Sunny looks at Rae, "Go take care of that phone call. I'll keep Mendez and the others company til you get back."

Mouse2000 -- Jila takes the corner

on what feels like two wheels in her haste to get the Scoobs to the Industrial section of town. Inside the van, Raegun and IQ are trying to get a fix on Laeryn's enerfy signature when the van screeches to a halt, and the Scoobs are mostly thrown together in a heap.

"Jila! What's up?" Mouse asks from somewhere under the pile and adds, "and whoever is kneeling on my kidneys, PLEASE STOP!"

The pile shifts as the Scoobs uncoil themselves and they all look out at what appears to be a shimmer right in front of the van. It's about 20 feet high, 20 feet wide, and is shimmering more and more. They are mesmerized for a moment.

Kay looks out the side window and yells, "There she is!" as she throws open the van door and sprints out into the alley.

Raven-Kat -- “Frell!”

Rae sighs as Kay runs from the van. Grabbing Raegun, she bolts after her.

"Laeryn!" Rae calls. "Laeryn, honey, are you okay?" Suddeny, Rae feels her knees buckle. "Frell..." she grunts from the floor. "Gunnie, what's wrong with me?"

"I don't know... Maybe something relating to the portal..."

"You frelling THINK so?" Rae hisses, dragging herself to her knees and hanging onto a wall for dear life. "Laeryn, honey, are you hurt?" Rae calls again.

kayde -- Having a slight lead

on Rae, Kay made it a few more feet before she, too, buckled over. She reached out her hands to Laeryn, who was looking at them with a mixture of relief and fear and sorrow in her eyes. "No", she said softly, shaking her head, "Go back. Don't come closer."
"Rae, what is happening to us?" Kay asked, trying with all her might to get up.

Raven-Kat -- “Get the frell back!”

Rae groans. She crawls a few paces forward and grabs Kay by the back of her shirt, dragging her away from the portal event. "Get to the van: get the haz-mat gear: warn the others." Rae orders.

Nodding, Kay half-crawls, half-walks back to the van.

"I think I'm going to be ill." Rae tells Reagun, and promptly is.

"Eww." Raegun comments. "Are you okay?"

"What the frell do you think?" Rae grunts. She looks up at Learyn, who is watching her, tears dripping from her eyes. It takes Rae a few seconds to realize the signifigance of this action. "You're going to be okay, sweetie." Rae assures her, crawling forward.

"Don't!" Laeryn calls. "The field is designed to kill humans."

"Ha!" Rae replies, still crawling. "That's okay, 'cause I'm NOT one! We're going to make sure you're safe, honey! Do you believe me?"

"No..."

Rae laughs and keeps crawling. "That's okay! I believe enough for both of us."

Mouse2000 -- Mouse pulls Kay

into the van, and Kay manages to get out, "Hazmat...Rae...field..." before she collapses. Mouse starts directing. "IQ, please see to Kay. Jila, you, Kara, and I can get the Hazmar suits on and help Rae. Chryse and Spyral, you guys get the van ready to receive Rae and Laeryn. No, I don't know how, but do your best. Everyone else, stay sharp!"

Kara, Mouse, and Jila got into the Hazmat suits and brought one out for Laeryn and one for Rae. Rae had gotten through the force field and pulled Laeryn out, and they were both attempting to get back to the van. Kara got Laeryn's suit on her, while Jila helped Rae and Mouse guarded. Soon, they heard Mouse yell, with a quiver in her voice, "Hurry it up and get back in the van. Something wicked this way comes..."

Mouse wondered to herself * Where the frell is everyone else??*

Raven-Kat -- *Good question...*

Rae thinks, without knowing what it means or refers to. As she puzzles over this, she suddenly has more pressing concerns. "Get this frelling helmet off of me!" she orders, tugging weakly at it. "I think I'm going to be ill."

"Oh, don't do that." Mouse says. "I think we're about to have company."

Rae stares weakly out the back window. "I see nothing."

"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes..." Mendez mutters. "There's SOMETHING out there, I can feel it." Mendez suddenly grabs Rae by the shoulders and pulls her nose-to-nose. "WHAT DID YOU PEOPLE DO TO ME?"

Rae sighs and pantac jabs the young man. "Damn, I hate it when they get hysterical..."

kayde -- kay comes to and sputters as IQ

smacking her face to get her to come to. "Ok, ok, I'm ok."
she says sitting up. She looked over to see Rae and Laryn and smiled at them. Laryn was looking very frightened but, she never took her eyes off of Spyral, and he in turn had his eyes glued to her. He kept reaching out as if he wanted to take her hand, but, wasn't quite sure if he should.

Raven-Kat -- “This is insane.”

Mendez groans from the floor.

"Boy, he recovered quick." Rae mutters, picking him up. She glares at him. "No more hysterics, soldier."

He nods weakly and sits, staring silently out the window. Rae watches Spy and Laeryn staring at each other. Spy keeps reaching out, tentatively. Rae sighs and reaches out, grabbing them both by the wrists. She plants Laeryn's hand firmly in Spy's and gives Spy a look that dares him to protest. Laeryn smiles shyly at Spy, who grins back.

Everyone in the van jumps as Rae's cell-phone rings. She routes it through her head-set. "Go. Yeah? Understood. Thanks, Lane. Out." Rae hangs up the phone and looks at the Scoobs. "Majestic has cleared every living person out of this area in a ten-mile radius."

"There hasn't been a thing about it on the news." Raegun adds. "The cover-story is holding."

"Wonderful news. Get us back to the air-port."

"Why?" Laeryn asks nervously.

"Because, child, there is someone YOU need to talk to." Rae informs her. She crawls over the van's seats (and multiple other Scoobs) and knocks out the back window. Equiping Raegun with his grenade launcher, she watches for pursuit.

Spyral -- Rememberance

The one-winged angel sat, staring in almost fascination at the small golden haired blind girl who sat, huddled between Rae and Mouse. He could see that she was obviously feeling the fear and strain of the past terifying hours, yet holding her hand in his, the angel could also feel the deep well of inner strength that she seemed to possess. That strength, not to mention the intense clarity of her thoughts and the incredibley sensitive sensory perceptions that seemed to be emanating from her like a massive vibration-sensitive radar system, that had caught the angels attention. He had not felt such raw unharnessed power in a single person in a very long time. Such a beautifully gentle person, capable of creating so much destruction... or so much beauty. It was almost sad in a way.

"I knew it was you," she said as he began to pull his hand back, and her grip tightened a bit to keep his hand in hers, her sightless eyes now seeming to connect with his somehow on an even deeper level. "The one I couldn't 'read'."

"From the airport," the angel added.

"The one from my dream," she said almost in correction.

"Dream?" Rae asked. "What dream hon?"

The rest of the Scoobs pulled closer, the better to hear her words, even as the van rocked from side to side, Sunny now driving at top speed thru the Industrial area. There had still so far been no sign of the Qu' uadine from the airport, but Mouse's razor shapr senses had picked up something and whatever it was heading their way, it could not be good.

"Who is Quistis?" Laeryn asked the angel. "And the other one, the one who wears the long black scarf over his face?"

The color seemed to drain then from the angels face and his mouth opened just a little as if beginning to utter something, but then losing the ability to get the words out.

"HOW the HELL do you know about THEM?" Twig roared, darting forward to hover just in front of Laeryn.

The Scoobies, all stunned by this sudden reaction form the Whysp could only sit in stunned silence, but Laeryn seemed not to notice the whysp at all.

"They call themselves 'Sentinels'. But why are they looking for you?" she continued. "And why are they so afraid of that other one .... the one without a shadow?"

But Spyral was oblivious to these words, as he was no longer in the van with the pretty blond girl and the members of the Scooby Gang.

The angel was standing atop a towering cliff, staring off into stars a in a place far away and at a time long distant in the past. In his company was the strikingly beautiful woman named Quistis Thade, a White-Caster from the crystalline ice-world of Trabia, and the mysterious tall and thin Dhracian bounty hunter known only as Dusk.

"One of the reasons I've survived for so long in my line of work, is that I've never left a job half-finished," came the sandy, deathlike voice from under the long billowing black scarf that covered the lower part of Dusk's face. "Allowing him to live is a mistake that we three will live to regret."

Spyral turned to face Dusk. "Our ........ Directive,"( the angel knew that the word 'orders' was not in the Dhracians chosen vocabulary) "was to contain him, not kill him."

"And if he manages to escape?" Dusk returned.

"He will not escape," came Quistis's voice. "The Seal is unbreakable. The Limbyc prison will hold him."

"Every seal is breakable," Dusk said. "And no prison is escape-proof."

"Neither is Death," Spyral countered. "But it's not our decision. The Primes want him alive. The Watcher ..."

"And they are SO infallible," Dusk replied in disgust. He pointed to them each in turn. "Both of you mark my words: By not finishing this now, we are only delaying the inevitable." He looked to the angel, his pitch black eyes seeming to grow even darker. "I'll not be held accountable for the destruction he may cause when he goes searching for his 'Toy' again." With that, the Dhracian bounty hunter turned and strode like a wraith toward his waiting ship.

Quistis walked to the angel, her crystalline gown shimmering in the light of the four moons of Averyys. "I believe that the universe will fall to ash and rise again seven times and more before the day comes when I will admit to that man that he speaks the truth," Quistis said, a troubled look upon her porcelain face.

"But he's right," Spyral said. "I think we WILL live to regret not destroying Macius while we have to opportunity. If he somehow manages to escape...."the angel trailed off, his eyes returning to the stars once more.

"He could spend an eternity searching for the pieces of the Atrium," Quistis replied.

"And think of all the death and destruction that he could cause in that eternity of searching," Spyral replied. "And he would enjoy every bit of it too."

"It makes one wonder just how 'All-Knowing' the Primes really are," Quistis said. "How many suns will grow cold, do you think, before we two will find ourselves back in the company of that Dhracian death-machine?", she added, speaking of Dusk as his small ship sailed off into the horizon.

"........not enough," the angel answered after a moment. "Not enough."

*A lot of suns have grown cold since then* the angel thought.

WHAAAAAAAMMM!!!!

The Scoobs tumbled from their places curses and cries filling the air as the van rocked violently from the sudden impact. The Angel kept a firm grip on Laeryn as he struggled to maintain an awkward semblance of balance, as the van lurched with another impact closely following the second.

"WE'VE GOT COMPANY," came Sunnys voice filtering it's way thru the chaos.

Sun Aeryn -- “WE’VE GOT COMPANY!”

Sunny yelled, as she tried to keep the van from turning over. If it did...they were frelled, seriously. BAM! The van rocked shook again.
"Rae, you gotta plan? The van can't take much more of this." Sunny yelled to be heard over the explosions outside...
"Well...we need to find shelter." Rae commented...digging through her pack trying to find something.
"No, really?! We need to find shelter? I could have come up with that!" Sunny retorted. Rae looked at Sunny...*Now is not the time.* Rae thought to Sunny *No kidding...but I'm serious...one more hit and the van and everyone in it will be toast!* Sunny thought to Rae as she tapped the sensor panel on the dash board of the van. Rae and Sunny had spent many days several months ago installing sheilding and sensors to the van, just in case. Rae looked at the panel and went back to digging in her pack.
"Mendez, is there a bomb shelter any where around here?" Sunny asked the soldier
Mendez just looked at Sunny, he was not sure what was happening *I did not sign on for this!* came his thought, so loud and clear that Sunny whinced. *Listen, Mendez, none of us did...but we are here and we have a job to do...unless you want to see your world gone.* Sunny shot back. "Mendez, answer me.....is there a bomb shelter near by? We need to get out of sight for a bit...regroup and replan our attack." Sunny said...still managing to keep the van going and from turning over.

Rae finally stopped digging in her pack..."Found it!"

Mouse2000 -- Rae pulled out her pack

a small toy car and it's remote control. It had a long antennae that pointed up and out of the back of the car. She leaned down and dropped it carefully out the back of the van through the broken window and it landed on it's wheels and bounced a few times, but stayed upright.

"Sunny, HIT IT!" She yelled, more to alert the other Scoobs and Laeryn to the sudden change in speed than to communicate with Sunny. The little van took off with an incredible jolt. "Do you have nitrous on this thing?" Mouse yelled over the roar of the engine. "Kind of..." Sunny said, and then Rae said, "Ok, that's good, we should be far enough away..." and hit the button on the remote control.

Nothing happened, at least to the van. But behind the van, the missles that were just deployed and everything else in a 3-D 1 mile radius that had a computer on board just stopped.

"Specific Electromagnetic Pulse Delivery System." Rae said with a smile. "Sixth and I collaborated."

Jila and IQ feverishly were working the command center board looking for a hideout, Kay and the corporal were huddled over the coms, and Spyral and Laeryn were just sitting there holding hands, not saying a word.

*Whatever.* Mouse thought. *She deserves whatever peace she can get. And I guess he needs some too.*

Mouse looked out the window and saw Rae's reflected face. It was staring out in the distance.

"I think we can try a run for the airport now. The toy took out our immediate pursurers. Let's get back and let Laeryn talk to her... friend..." Rae said quietly.
