Well, I met Jaime about 10 years ago, more or less. I wasn't as glamorous then, and well, neither was Jaime....
I remember him calling me one day. He was furious and needed to vent about some crazy-ass record he was selling at his record store, PARADISE RECORDS. The cut was, well, I won't mention the genre, but the message was clearly a severe anti-gay theme.
Jaime wasn't aware of the message in the song when he first started selling it. Apparently, the record was selling like ice cold 40's on a devilishly hot summer day!
Because of Jaime's beliefs, and because of the negative content of the release, he decided to stop offering the record to his clients. Well, Jaime had to explain and sorta "come out" to his clients. Hence my quote:
The situation was a clear example of the degree of hostility ordinary folk have towards the gay issue.
Honey, Jaime was confused and so very upset! I consoled him. Being the fierce, beautiful and very wise mother that I am, I advised the child to:
"FREE HERSELF...(oops!), HIMSELF, TO BECOME HIMSELF !!" I suggested that he not hold on or internalize the anger, to feel it through and deal with it. GOD knows I've had enough experience dealing with these tacky issues! I also told Jaime to try to use those feelings in a constructive manner. He was so accustomed to cheebering or Twinkie dousing a negative situation.
I was so proud of him! He handled the situation so well. He took the problem to the dance floor! What he did to create a his very first dance track in his little studio.
Well, Jaime likes to work alone when he has an idea. By no means would Jaime say that he is a musician, He's just a crazy d.j. Latino. He did get his education at Five Towns College for Audio Engineering and business management. He managed to lay down some cool percussion and an errie synth pad down. Well my darlings, that was the foundation for the child's very first release!!
See at that same time, Little Jaimecito was so moved and inspired by the documentary "PARIS IS BURNING". HE WAS FEELING THAT DRAG AND TRANSSEXUAL VIBE, GIRL!!!
Then if life could get any better, he stumbled across an old copy of his favorite childhood idol, "MISS GERALDINE JONES" and came up more inspiration for his track. I will always adore the effort, and it was appropriately called"THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS DRESS !!!" HOW FIERCE !!!
(LORD, THIS TOOK PLACE SO MANY YEARS AGO, AND EACH TIME I TALK ABOUT IT I GET ALL EXASPERATED AND EXCITED !!!)He did struggle to get this idea out. He felt that the message in the track was something that us girls could identify with. Some questioned the confrontational aspects of the release.
He was so crazy! he went as far as calling Junior Vasquez and playing "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY..." on Junior's answering machine. Obsessed as he was, Jaime believed in the cut and saw to it that it would be heard! I believed in the cut bigtime as well.
See, Jaime and I were so feed up with the anti gay vibes as well as the lack of messages from OUR COMMUNITY.
Plus he was exploring the gay=evil mentality.Like why does society connect alternative lifestyles to a lower power, anyway?
Hence, MISS GIRL RECORDS was born.Jaime came up with the production name of I.M.T. I helped him create that wonderful MISS GIRL RECORDS LOGO! I think Jaime WANTS TO BE MISS GIRL! But he can't, he not fierce enough!
He adores all of us beautiful and wonderful drag queens, transgenders and transsexual's. He thinks we're BALLSY!
He just released his first full length CD, appropriately titled, "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS CD".
OF COURSE IT INCLUDES THAT WONDERFUL LITTLE DITTY that JUNIOR VASQUEZ did end up playing! See Jaime serviced FOR THE RECORD Record Pool. ALL the top DJ"S including Junior Vasquez were members, so one day the director of the pool called Jaime to tell him that Junior pumped "THE DEVIL" AT THE SOUND FACTORY!
HONEEYYY, the day that Junior Vasquez called Jaime in the record store to compliment him and invite him down to the SOUND FACTORY...WHEW, IT WAS A PARTY IN JAIME'S WORLD!!!
He was like a child celebrating his birthday with a luscious pineapple filled VALENCIA CAKE. That was JOY!!!
I.M.T.. performed at the SOUND FACTORY for GAY PRIDE WEEKEND!
Shortly thereafter, Jaime got to speak to the wonderful LARRY FLICK @ BILLBOARD. Jaime sent the record to LARRY and received a great review which was published! (just click on Larry Flick's name to read the review)
WELL, in the here and now, Jaime and I have the full length CD which we are promoting. On the CD I made me debut on the remake of "MONEY (IN MY DARKNESS)" You must hear it! I turned it out quite nicely. I added a cool KRIYA to this wonderful classic!!! Also check out "A GIRL HAS GOTTA HAVE A BIT OF GLAMOUR" This is yet another drag stomper that has my sister Jaye D. chatting away about being "LOUD BUT NEVER CHEAP"!
I love Jaime, and he worships and adores me. I helped him on the CD release. I got lovely for him and all.
