Philadelphia Mummers.

What we know now as the modern day Mummers Parade began quite simply with the Comics, which paraded in 1884 and approximately only 2,500 people marched. The Fancies were soon to follow and eventually the first string band, Trilby, paraded up Broad Street in 1902. Eventually, the "fancier" fancies added their own division and became the Fancy Brigades and started marching in 1978. The parade, dubbed as "The Longest Oldest Parade in the World", with over 25,000 participants, lasts approximately 11 hours and is the most colorful. Nothing beats the seguins, the feathers, the colorful costumes each and every New Year's Day. It's a most-see event and the best way to start a New Year off!!!!
