"UNITED BY THE LOVE OF THE GAME"

  RULES AND REGULATION

5 on 5 BASKETBALL Rules

NCAA Basketball rules with these AIT modifications & the AIT General Rules will govern play.

  1.TEAM SHIRTS - with numbers - ARE REQUIRED !!!
Shirts must be the same color with a clearly visible number (1 or 2 digits) on the back.

2.GAME TIME is FORFEITURE TIME. No grace period.

3.ONE FORFEIT and your team will be DROPPED from the competition. Teams will also be dropped after
     two DEFAULTS.
FORFEIT: if NO players are at the court by game time
DEFAULT: if a team does not have the minimum number of players at game time.

4.The GAME will consist of two 15-minute halves, with up to 5 minutes rest between halves. Teams must have five
players on the court to start and at least 4 players to continue a game.  Playoffs will consist of 15min halves.

5.The CLOCK will NOT be stopped for foul shots, held-balls, out-of-bounds, etc.
The timer will stop the watch the  last 2 min of the game each time the ball is out-of-play.
Throughout the game, teams must line up promptly for foul shots. Officials will penalize teams that attempt to consume
time by using obvious stalling tactics in these situations. The official may stop the clock and charge the offending team
with a technical foul for such tactics.

6.TIMEOUTS: Each team may call one (1) timeout each half and in each overtime period. Timeouts will not
carry over which means that if you do not use the timeout in the first half you will still only have one timeout in
the second half. Additional timeouts will not be granted (technical foul). Only players in the game and on the team in
possession of the ball may call timeouts, not coaches or substitutes on the sidelines. During a dead ball any offensive or
defensive player in the game may call a timeout.

7.TIE GAMES:  In overtimes there will be a 5 min OT. If the score remains tied at the end of this period, a
second extra period will be started. Timing procedure for the last 2 min of the overtime period will be the same as the
     end of the second half.

8.FOUL SHOTS: will be taken when the foul is committed against a player in the act of shooting or on a technical foul.
For all other fouls, the ball will be taken out-of-bounds and the player committing the foul will be charged with a
personal. Exception: In the last 2 minutes of the second half and in subsequent overtime periods, all fouls excluding
player control fouls will be shot. During these times all non-shooting fouls are to be 1 and 1.

9.SUBSTITUTIONS: may be made anytime the ball is out-of-play. Substitutes must wait for the official to call them into
the game with the two official system. Substitutes must get an official's attention and wait for a dead ball to be called
in. A technical foul will be charged to the team for failure to abide by this rule.

10.JUMP BALL: will be used to start each game and overtime. In all held-ball situations teams will alternate taking the
ball out of bounds at the spot nearest to where the situation occurs. All held balls will be determined by the possession
     arrow.

11.THREE POINT RULE: will be in effect wherever and whenever possible. If through whatever circumstance, games
are played on courts without the 3-point arc, all shots are worth 2 points (except free throws - 1 pt).

12.DUNKING: is permitted DURING an A.I.T. basketball game. However, participants are NOT permitted to
dunk, attempt to dunk, hang on the net, etc... during pre-game, half-time or post-game. Violators will be assessed
technical fouls, served with RED conduct cards, and/or asked to vacate the facility.

13.ROSTERS: No new players may be added once the tournament begins.
Only players who have played with a team in at least one regular game can
        compete in the playoffs.

14.HEADGEAR: No hats or jewlery, that means ear rings. Also no hats

15.Maximum of 12 players per team.  A player can not be substituted into the roster after the start of the tournament.

16.A PLAYER MAY COMPETE WITH ONLY ONE TEAM. Once a player has played with a team, he/she may not
play for any other team, regardless of division. Violation will result in suspension of the player and forfeiture of the
    game/s in questions.

17.NO FIGHTING! Technical fouls will be enforces for game misconduct.  If a player fights he is out of the game until the tournament reaches an end.  If the same team has a fight involving a different player the TEAM will be disqualified from our tournament. This is a friendly competition, fighting will not be tolerated.

18.ALL players must be at least 50% Asian decent, this is not to discriminate against race, but to ensure fair play.
This also allows the elimination of "ringers."  No professional athletes, such as school basketball team members.  If you judge that someone will be questioned, please bring it to our attention so that we can take proper precautions to ensure that he will play.  It is not the administrations fault if someone is questioned just before game time and he can not play.  If you think your teammates eligibility will be questioned let us know. By the way, this tournament will include east-Asian players.  We will try our best to create a fair playing field, however talent is GOD given.

Any of these policies or rules, at the discretion
of the AIT staff, are subject to change.
