Java
Applets can merely be run on 32-bit platforms. This means you must be running
Windows 95 or a higher level of MAC OS or OS/2. Besides 32-bit operating
system, you will also need a 32-bit platform browser. 32-bit platform browsers
are available from Netscape
or Microsoft's
homepage.
The two most important
things to create a java applet is the applet itself and it's source code.
The java applet can be obtained from various sites. When you click on a
java applet, you may see some strange writing. When downloading the applet,
save it as "source" or "raw data" depending on which browser you are using.
Saving a java applet as "text" will mess it up!
To ensure a good
download, Netscape users can hold down the shift key while clicking. MSIE
users can click the right mouse button and choose to download while MAC
users can hold the mouse button and choose download. Doing this has often
solved later problems.
After obtaining
both the applet and its source code, the next step is to put it on your
page. To do so, place both the applet and the source code in the same directory.
Make sure to FTP or transfer the applet as "raw data" or "binary" depending
on your system. Failure to do so will corrupt the applet and kill all your
fun!
