A ballad is a narrative poem that is often created to be sung. Repetition and rhyming are often used to create a ballad about a certain event in someone's life or an important occurrence. Ballads were a folk creation that were passed on from generation to generation orally. Below is a Ballad I created concerning a young man departing to war and his love mourning his leave.

My Dear

My Dear, do not leave me

My Dear, I know you shall not return

.

My Love, I must leave

My Love, I shall return

.

My Dear, I feel it in me

My Dear, it is like a fire burning deep inside of me

.

My Love, it will be all right

My Love, the feeling shall leave once we have our freedom

..

My Dear, freedom for my true love's life?

My Dear, stay with me

.

My Love, it is my duty

My Love, I shall fight in your glorious name

.

My Dear, the tears that fall sting my eyes

My Dear, I plead with you, do not leave me

.

My Love, I wipe the tears away with a gentle hand

My Love, I am not leaving you forever

.

My Dear, it will be more than a little while

My Dear, you are safe here

.

My Love, if it is my time I must leave

My Love, my life is young, I shall remain

.

My Dear, where do you depart to?

My Dear, I know you will leave to the sky above

.

My Love, I leave now to fight

My Love, I will stay in this land

.

My Dear, where are you now?

My Dear, it has been a long while

..........

My Dear, the children and I wait

My Dear, where are you now?

......

My Dear, I leave the flowers for you here

My Dear, they gave me word but yesterday

..........

My Dear, My Love, you have departed to the sky above
