Dr. Nong Chen's Previous Biomedical Research Experience

I am now working in Gene Logic Inc, developing high throughput
gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis and gene chip for DNA analyses.
I have conducted biomedical research in the Lab of Macromolecular
Analysis in National Institutes of Health focusing on the studies of
development of new methods for the separation of proteins and DNA
fragments.
I have conducted experiment on the development of capillary
electrochromatographic technique by utilizing continuous beds and DNA
separation by pulsed field capillary gel electrophoresis in the Department
of Biochemistry, Biomedical Center, Uppsala University as a Guest
Researcher under the supervision of Prof. Stellan Hjerten who is a pioneer
of modern capillary electrophoresis, inventor of hydrophobic
chromatography, a world distinguished separation scientist. This Lab is a
world center for separation sciences where two Nobel Laureates, Prof. The
Svedberg (inventor of ultracentrifuge) and Prof. Arne Tiselius (inventor of electrophoresis) were from this Lab.

I have also conducted postdoctoral research in the Faculty of
Pharmaceutical Sciences of Kyoto University and Himeji Institute of
Technology of Japan under the supervision of Prof. Shigeru Terabe, he is
a pioneer of Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography, one of the important
branches in capillary electrophoresis. This technique is especially
invented for the capillary electrophoresis of neutral compounds, and is a
very powerful tool for the separation of pharmaceuticals. I investigated
the effect of organic modifier in micellar capillary electrokinetic
chromatography. In addition, I have illustrated for the first time that
single-base resolution was achieved for a mixture of fluorescent labeled
oligonucleotides up to 500 base-long chains by employing linear
polyacrylamide as a sieving matrix in capillary gel-filled electrophoresis
with laser-induced fluorescent detection.
