Birthday for Members
A tradition was started by the UNIMAS Medical Society when birthdays of each student
was celebrated by all of the members. Most of the time, celebrations and birthdays are
celebrated by students of the same batch or year. Sometimes, when it is convenient, cakes will be bought along with small presents for the
birthday boy or girl. Some other forms of 'presents' in the form of raw sardines mixed
with eggs and flour have been given once or twice to unsuspecting people, only to have
it smeared on their hair and shirts! However, no ill feelings will be left behind as
everyone knows that it is done in the spirit of friendship and camaraderie. Costs for
these cakes and presents are shared among members of the batch and does not come from
the society's money. All in all, these birthday gatherings which are usually held at night in the campus has
become a part of the life of a UNIMAS medical student. It is unique in every way. It also
builds greater friendship and strenghtens the bonds of existing friendship, producing a
spirit of kinship and togetherness.
