Welcome to Valley High Charter School! Please allow us to inform you of a few procedures pertaining to the High School Program. Discipline, homework and grading policies may vary somewhat from teacher to teacher. The home room teachers (3rd period) will be sending home basic High School classroom rules for students and parents to sign and return.

Discipline - - Generally, an orderly, calm, positive atmosphere in a classroom is most productive for success in the students. If necessary, teachers will not hesitate to discipline a student if he/she is disrupting the class in a negative manner. Negative behavior is not ignored nor forgotten. Each individual teacher has a tolerance level and there are class room rules, consequences, and rewards posted in every classroom It is the students responsibility to make themselves aware of that information.

Homework/Self Pace Courses - - Some teachers will assign homework for the entire week on Monday, while others will assign homework on a daily basis. Students are responsible for outside assignments other than the homework assigned. There are several self pace courses. Students will be required to report to the teacher for exams to test out of those subjects. The instructor will not ask for the assignments of those self pace courses. The student will be responsible for handing assignments to the teacher. The teacher will not keep track of when you need a test. The student is responsible for reporting to the teacher that he/she is ready for a chapter test. The front office will not at any time take any assignments from the students. Only the teacher assigned that subject will be accepting any and all assignments.

Failure to complete assignments or turn in self pace materials will result in non completion of the course.

Grading - - Individual teachers may vary somewhat in their grading procedures. All teachers, however, will be require to fill out a progress report on all students who are below a 70 average.

Conferences - - Parents are invited to request for a conference with any teacher that directly instructs their child. Parent/teacher conferences will be made by appointment at least 5 working days in advance. Teachers may also request a conference with a student, parent or both if necessary. On occasion, an administrator may be present.

School Accreditation

Valley High Charter School is an open enrollment high school that was licensed by the Texas Education Agency, (TEA) in 1998. Accreditation through TEA allow undergraduates to transfer without loss of credit, all credits earned in the school to any other high school, in or out of Texas.

Leaving Classes or the School Grounds

Permission to leave a class may be granted by the teacher in charge, who fills out an Official Hall Pass. Such a pass should be carried by the student, along with the student I.D., and should be shown to adults, if requested.

If parents wish a student to leave school for an appointment or other preplanned commitment, the attendance office needs to be notified in writing before the time the student leaves. When the parent arrives to pick up the student, the parent should report to the front office. The student is called from class to meet the parent. Upon return to school, the student should report the front office and then go on to class.

In case of illness, a student should report to the front desk, at which time the school will contact a parent or legal guardian to pick up the student.
