ANIMALS IN PRAGUE

We were told to visit Prague Zoo. Well, why not? And let me tell you, that was pretty cool! I wish I had a better camera -- (you will discover that I am wishing that all the time... *sigh*) -- I could have taken pictures of the giraffes! It was too dark in their pavilion - not that it lacked windows, but it was already evening and it was cloudy... But let me tell you, those animals are impressive! Have you even seen dinosaurs? The same feeling! :) Seriously! Man, they are tall!!!

Oh well. There were other animals and birds there - penguins (just like in New York's Central Park Zoo), elephants, goats, eagles, wolves (Vlk's in Czech), there was also one peculiar bird named Hadozhrut Nogaty, which translates into English as "the Legged Snake-Eater". :) There were also owls (sovitsa and pushtik in Czech). And there were Flamingoes! Man, they are beautiful!

Another shot of the noble birds.

There was one particularly curious bird that was very interested in the apples that we were eating. You can see how the interest increases with time... :)

Okay, birdie, you can come closer! Come on, don't be afraid...

Here you go! Come on! Don't worry, I already had my dinner! Want some apple? Come closer!

Oops, that's a bit too close!

Masha was trying to feed every single animal in the Zoo. I think it was our luck that the Lion, the Tiger, and the Bear were busy that day and didn't have any appointments, otherwise... Hm, maybe they would have been fed anyway - even against their will? :) But the Camel didn't escape his fate.

Another place where we saw animals was the Konopishteh castle that belonged to the Arch-Duke Ferdinand, who was assassinated in Sarajevo and that started World War I as you probably know. The Arch-Duke was a famous hunter, but surprisingly enough some animals survived his hobby and there are some that still live in his former home. We saw the Owl and the Peacock. Question to young owl-logists: Do they really have those red eyes, or is it my camera?

And there also was the Peacock without any trace of the tail! Seems like the eager tourists have plucked all the feathers... Without them it looks a lot like a colored chicken. Hm.

Go to start or go home.
