me, summer 98 |
school's out and it's time to pick a fun summer job. i chose an oil platform 98 miles south of galveston, texas. i was just beginning to enjoy life on the rig when, on a fateful day in late june, i slipped on a supply boat. an liquitank weighing 'xx' tons was set down on my leg. my femur suffered clean breaks near the knee and hip areas. i was life-flighted to a hospital in south texas where i underwent leg surgery the next morning. a couple screws and a hip-to-knee rod were inserted. in follow up visits, my knee was also found to have problems. i began rehabilitation therapy in late july and i am learning how to walk again. school begins in late august. the doctors suspect i will begin walking with a cane when i enter school. at the moment i am unable to drive and laid up at my parents' home in palatka. but what's one summer? |
