Dot Music
Hot new stars Next of
Kin - the first band Simon Fuller has managed since parting with
the Spice Girls - made a whirlwind stop-off in the dotmusic
office to give us an exclusive acappella version of their new
single. Being that the band are young and specialise in
harmony driven guitar pop, comparisons with Hanson are inevitable
- but this may change as the public will undoubtedly connect with
the band's Britishness.
We managed to corner the band and get the low down on what it's
like to be tipped as the next big thing. For those of you who
don't know, Next of Kin are three Essex teenage brothers Nathan
(18), Mark (15) and Kieran Bass (13) who were discovered singing
in a music shop in Birmingham. This virtuoso performance led to
ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller stepping in as their manager
- and when this happens both the music industry and punters
usually take note.
Next of Kin are about to conduct a tour of schools across the
country to promote their new single 24 Hours which comes out on
February 8. Eldest brother Nathan says: "It's going to be hectic as we're
doing three schools a day. Im looking forward to when we do
the girls schools."
The middle brother Mark, who cites Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as
his musical idols, recently experienced his voice breaking whilst
recording. As their performance proved this has had no effect on
his ability to take lead vocals.
Judge for yourself - you can see Next Of Kin this coming Saturday
