Product Information
Affordable, Network-Ready Workgroup CD Servers

Meridian Data's CD Net Universal workgroup servers offer cost-effective, high-performance CD-ROM sharing for NetWare, NT and UNIX networks. Universal servers are the ideal CD-ROM solution for departmental, small business, and school or library applications where ease of use and quick installation are important.

Easy Installation On Any Ethernet Network

Just plug it in, turn it on and choose your network settings. There's no need to load or configure software or hardware on either the network file servers or the workstation clients. CD Net Universal auto-detects network parameters and automatically configures itself into most departmental networks.

Attach Anywhere

Direct network connection to 10Mb Ethernet or optional 100Mb Fast Ethernet is built-in, so you can locate the CD Net Universal server where it makes the most sense to administrators and users.

Works with NetWare, Windows, OS/2 and UNIX

CD Net Universal servers are equally at home on NetWare, Windows, OS/2 or UNIX LANs. Users access CD-ROM collections as native NetWare volumes, NT or OS/2 shares or mountable NFS volumes. Connecting workstations is simple using the standard networking and drive mapping tools included with these networks, or use a WEB browser.

Universal Connectivity

CD Net Universal servers support multiple simultaneous protocols right out of the box, including TCP/IP, NetWare IPX, NetBIOS, NetBEUI, UDP/IP and HTTP.

CD-ROM drives can be mapped individually or all CDs can be mounted under one drive letter.

Remote Management

Most configuration is automatic, however it's easy to change settings from any PC on the network using Windows-based or Web-based administration tools. CD Net Universal integrates with popular network management tools, supporting SNMP MIB-II and private enterprise MIB status reporting and configuration from a WEB browser.

Software updates are easy too. Update the 2MB of standard Flash memory locally or over the network using FTP.

Access Control

Optionally, CD Net Universal may be configured to restrict access by password at the user and group levels, or by simultaneous users.

Scalable Tower & Rack Mount Options

CD Net Universal servers are available in seven- or fourteen-drive locking towers, and seven-drive rack mounts. Tower cabinets feature a locking door that prevents unauthorized access to CD-ROM collections. The rack-mount version fits into standard 19" racks.

Quality and Support

Meridian Data pioneered CD-ROM server technology and has earned a reputation for good quality and excellent customer service. All CD Net Universal systems are backed by our Reliance Support Program, including three year warranty, toll-free hot line and World Wide Web home page.  Extended coverage and other enhanced services are available.
