Health Care

Dermatologists

Dr. Alan Rockoff -- 731-2390 -- Brookline
Several people recommended this dermatologist on public bulletin. It is necessary to take the T (Green Line, C train I believe) to get to his office, but people said it is worthwhile.

Dentists

Dr. Vassos -- ???-???? -- Wellesley, within walking distance
Some people like Dr. Vassos, but some say he's not so good. In one case, he recommended gum surgery to a student, who subsequently got two other opinions from dentists who felt that surgery was not necessary.
Harvard Dentistry School -- ???-???? -- Cambridge
Recommended second-hand as being cheap and professional.

Gynecologists

Sloane Crawford -- Wellesley Infirmary
The general consensus seems to be that Sloane Crawford (or anyone else at the infirmary) is the best option for a gynecological exam. To make an appointment, just call the infirmary x2810. Hours for the Outpatient Clinic are Monday - Friday 8:00am - noon, and 1:00pm - 4:00pm. If you have an emergency, you can go to the infirmary any time. The infirmary has strict confidentiality policies: from their web page, "No information can be released from the medical record to anyone (including your parents, employers, friends, professors or spouses) without written consent. This includes dates of service, diagnosis, treatments or procedures. No info will be released without the student's explicit knowledge or written consent, within the guidelines of professional ethics and legal principles." There is, however, a possibility that a record of treatment might show up on an insurance record sent to your parents. If confidentiality is an issue, be sure to discuss this with people at the infirmary.

Psychologists

Stone Center -- Wellesley College
The Stone Center offers free individual and group short-term (6-8 sessions) counseling. Many Wellesley students visit the Stone Center, for all sorts of reasons, and the Stone Center web site explains their services in detail.

Optomitrists/Opthamologists

LensCrafters -- (508) 653-0223 -- Natick
I have not visited this LensCrafters (which is at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Speen St. in Natick, across from the Natick Mall), but have had good luck with LensCrafters in several other locations. I've gotten eye exams, glasses, and contacts, and never been unhappy with the service or the products.
Pearle Vision -- (508) 655-7453 -- Natick
Pearle Vision was recommended by a student on bulletin. They are also located near the intersection of Rt.9 and Speen St. in Natick.

Not Health Care

Auto Repair

Frazee Automotive -- 235-1001 -- Natick
Frazee's has repaired my car a number of times, and done a good job. The one time the car gave me trouble after a repair, they re-did the repair at no charge. Frazee's is located about a mile up Rt. 135 in Natick (turn left from the Rt. 135 entrance to the college) on the left-hand side of the street. An added perk: they will drive you back to campus when you drop off your car, if you don't have a ride.

Tailors

Wellesley Hills Tailoring -- 235-6066 -- Wellesley Hills (Playhouse Square)
This tailor is recommended as being excellent, but also warned about as pricey.

You can also go to www.itn.net (or is it itn.com?), which will let you fuss with your fares, too. It connects you to the info that travel agents have.

Travel Agents

Travel Network -- 237-4242 -- Washington St (~2 miles from campus)
I've used Travel Network extensively during my time at Wellesley, and been very pleased. They've always worked hard to find good airline fares for me, and at times have hand-delivered my tickets. When I had a special voucher at one point, it was necessary to walk down to the office, which is beyond Star Market and the park on Washington St as you walk away from the college.

Drycleaning

Reliable Cleaners -- (508) 653-1531 -- pickup and delivery to campus
I don't know if Reliable Cleaners is the best, but they're certainly the most convenient. They pick up and drop off clothes at the bell desk of every dorm, and are announced with an all-house when they arrive.
