News from Bajor
STARDATE 9809.19
Greetings once again. Due to Trek Happening and the South Florida Sci-Fi
Festival I haven't had much time or the energy to put into completing part two
of last month's list of locations to help build a Bajoran persona and history.
Look for part two, locations from K-Z, to be in the next issue.
First, in local Bajoran news. I'm glad to see more and more Bajorans
coming to Earth. Every convention I go to there's a couple more of us.
Urgent update! Last month you may remember my reporting that Louise
Fletcher (Kai Winn) was in an accident. I'm happy to report that she is just
fine. This automobile accident took place near her home in Virginia a couple
months ago. She is now currently on the East coast filming a new movie
entitled "Seeing in the Dark."
Chase Masterson (Leeta) can be seen in a cameo appearance in the film
"Free Enterprise." This movie is a comical look at fandom and features William
Shatner in a script by Robert Meyer Burnett and Mark Altman.
Finally, it is rumored that Nana Visitor (Major Kira Nerys) will be getting a
promotion on Deep Space Nine this year. It's about time! I'm glad it doesn't
take that long to get promoted in Starfleet.
This month's list of terms is short, as I mentioned above. I decided that
with the Human celebration of Thanksgiving coming up soon that maybe a list of
food and beverages was due. Everyone knows that Klingons eat gagh, Cardies
drink kanar, Ferengi eat tube grubs, and Romulans have ale. Ever wonder what
Bajorans eat and drink? Here's your answer. So, Happy Thanksgiving and, as
the Humans might say, Bon Apetit.
Ratamba Stew. Traditional meat and vegetable dish.
Foraiga. Seafood.
Veklava. Bajoran delicacy.
Hasperat. Extremely spicy burrito.
Katterpod Beans. Mushroom-like plant harvested for its roots called
beans.
Kava Root. A root in the starch family similar to an Earth potato.
Takes many hours to soften before boiling.
Moba Fruit. Common fruit grown throughout Bajor.
Tuwaly Pie. Bajoran pie.
Jumja. "Glop on a Stick." Sweet confection made from tree sap.
Jumja Tea. Tea made from the sweet sap of a jumja tree.
Pyrellian Ginger Tea. Tea brewed from Pyrellian ginger spice.
Synthale. Intoxicating beverage made from grains.
Spring Wine. Intoxicating beverage made from fruit.
