If baseball is a string quartet and football a blaring brass band, then basketball is jazz -- and Michael Jordan is the jazz master, the ultimate improvisational artist who uses his uncanny instincts to create music unlike any that has been beard before. As a freshman, Jordan scored the winning basket in the 1982 NCAA Final for North Carolina. That was only the start of his glorious career. Drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the year of 1984, he scored over 30 points almost every season in his career. He won ten scoring title during his years, and three stealing titles. Six NBA championship rings, and five MVP awards, one defensive player of the Year Award, five NBA Finals MVPs, three NBA All-Star game MVPs, two slam-dunk championships. Two of his most memorable plays are, dunk from just inside the foul line at the 1988 All-Star Weekend; and drive down the lane that ended in mid-air, switch-handed layup against the Lakers in the 1991 NBA Finals. Recently, Michael said farewell to basketball for the second time after being out for baseball for 18 months in 1994 and 1995. He announced his retirement on the Janury 13th of 1999. He will surely be missed. |
