I was born and raised in the Caribbean paradise of Puerto Rico, that was many, many years ago. I come from a working family. Which is something I always remember. A man must be proud of where he comes from and what he is. In my opinion this is the basic foundation on becoming a productive adult in our society. As a young boy I always dreamed about being a soldier, something that was of big disapproval by my parents. There is no military service tradition in my family. When I finished high school I was determine to joint the ARMY or the MARINES, but my family decided for me that college was a better thing for me to do. As the good boy I was I follow my family wishes. Something that later on life I regret a lot of times.
I was a very happy boy while I was growing up. I always enjoy reading and played lots of basketball and running.
As a High School Junior I started running marathons and long distance runs. Which proved to be very good for me since I earned a scholarship at the University of Puerto Rico.
I went to college with the aspiration to become an Automotive Engineer. Unfortunate destiny had other plans for me. Just one semester short before graduation I dropped from college. My family had the idea that all I needed was a break and that the following semester I will go and finish school. Wrong!
On the summer of 1987 I enlisted in the US ARMY. Note that the decision to joint the US ARMY was my first decision as a young adult.
I had a very hard time during military basic training. For one I was a rebel and for two I did not understand what the Drill Sergeants where saying. So during this time I screw up a lot of things and end up on a lot of trouble, some on purpose, some I don't even know how the hek I did until it was too late.
By the time I ended basic military training and individual training I had fall in love with the Army. P> I was assigned to Ft. Bliss Texas, where I found a second home, boy I love Texas. I was station there for 6 years, traveled around the world with my unit until 1994 when I was assigned for permanent change of station to Korea.
Korea is a wonderful place, with lovely people. I really enjoy my one year tour in this terrific place. I learn to fear the traffic, and to handle the SOJU. I also learn to miss Texas, AW, AW, AW.
From Korea I got assigned to Ft. Riley, Kansas where I currently live.
For those of you who always wonder with the question. What about combat? Well, like Bart Simpson said "War is Hell Man". I participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I never did nothing I regret, always did what I tough it was right for the man I lead into combat and for my country. I am a very proud and patriotic American. For me there is no more beautiful sight than the American flag at full staff, and a beautiful sunset for background. You bet I am very proud of being an American.
I just completed a tour of duty in the Republic Of Bosnia. Bosnia is a beautiful country. Its being devastated by years of Civil War. How can people destroy such a beautiful place and bring misery to his fellow countryman? As an American I seen the results of Civil War and our obligation to our future generations of young Americans is to ensure our loved country the USA never engage in a civil war that will spill the blood of our fellow country man and woman. Americans should NEVER fight Americans.
So what are my believes? I believe in freedom, I believe in honesty and moral courage, I believe that every man is equal, and it deserves a chance to prove himself, and to human kind what he can do for himself and his country.
Here are a few things I like and don't like, and a list of favorites;
My favorite color: Red, because is the color of blood. One of the colors of my country flag that signifies the blood my comrades has sacrified in combat on the name of freedom.
My favorite beverage: water. Because is natural. Note- I only drink alcohol on special occasions only.
Favorite hobbies: Internet, IRC, reading, lots of reading. I average about one book a week, which is a lot of reading when you look at my busy schedule. What I read? I love biographies, Vietnam, real life stories, magazines, and of course all material related with computers.
Honesty: in my opinion is the most valuable trait a person must have. Lyes: I hate them with passion.
My favorite food: rice, beans and pork chops.
Like a friend of mine says there is only two types of music: Country and Western, can you guess what I like when it comes to music?
Where did I learn about computers? In the ARMY and by reading and self study. And by practice and lots of headaches.
How I am? I like to be honest. I am very responsible. I consider myself intelligent, little above average. I am very romantic. Enjoy the fine things of live. Though the years I learn to value the simple things in life must of us got for granted, thanks to all the traveling I done with the ARMY. I am very dedicated, and like to focus on an specific difficult task until I find an answer that will satisfy my never ending search for doing the very best at everything I do. I am very friendly, and consider myself a modern man, but at times I find myself thinking more traditionally specially when involves members of the opposite sex.
Overall, I am basic your average fellow. Very friendly. I can be your best friend, I demand loyalty above all things. When I am your enemy, boy them you are dealing with the meanest pest ever created by GOD!
There is an old military saying:" As I walk through the Valley Of Death I shall fear no evil cause I am the meanest muther#$*(r in the Valley". I thing this phrase best describe the best there is the best there was and the best there ever will be... the one and only... RANGER6...
