Her Story
Loucinda Cline, known to family and friends as Cindy,
and her fiancee Jason Robles were planning to get married
and join the Marine Corps together. Their plans were
destroyed on the early morning of May 11, 1996. (Mother's Day!)
Cindy and Jason were on their way home from Bowling
on a Sunday morning a little after 1:00 A.M.
when a pickup truck crashed into them head on.
The truck was driven by Jose Martin Rodriguez, a 40
year old man from Wesley Chapel,Fl. He was driving
down the wrong side of interstate 75 for more than 2 miles.
An Hour and a half after the accident his blood alcohol
level was .06 . A level of .08 indicates intoxication
under Florida law.
Cindy was killed on impact and Jason was left with a
broken hip and pelvis, cracked front teeth and cuts
to an earlobe, face, knee and right index finger.
It took so much metal to rebuild his crushed pelvis and hip
that he set off metal detectors entering the Pasco County Courthouse.
Never the less his dreams of joining the military were over and his
medical bills are in excess of $70,000.
Rodriguez, who was arrested 2 1\2 months after the collision,
pleaded not guilty. His trial has been postponed several
times for various reasons. Once because a juror got sick
and was unable to be in court, the judge had not selected
an alternate therefore it was declared a mistrial.
Their third date was May 4,1998, but
Circuit Judge Maynard Swanson rescheduled
it to July because an important witness had not been
questioned by lawyers, and evidence was missing.
Rodriguez's attorneys argue that their client suffers from
Narcolepsy, a sleep disorder he didn't know he had. The condition,
they alleged, left Rodriguez virtually sleepwalking the night
he drove down the wrong side of I-75 smashing his truck into
Cindy and Jason.
The case has been thrown out of every court. The case is now
headed for U.S. Supreme Court, a trial date has not yet been set.
Messages to Cindy from her parents!
You had so many dreams, hopes, and plans for the future.
You were planning to join the Marine Corps and
become a nurse. But most of all to become a wife and Mother.
I never knew silence could be so loud, your music is no
longer playing, the phone is no longer ringing, and there is
no longer any laughter or joy in the house. Only silence!
The only noice we ever hear through the silence is the sound
of our hearts breaking in your absence.
You are deeply missed by your brother Jimmy, sister-in-law Lisa,
and niece Crystal. you are sadly missed by all of your friends.
We will miss your loving and sparkling smile and your sweet
Southern accent. We love you Cindy, now and forever!
You are truely the "Keeper Of The Stars"
