O.K. so it goes like this. It doesn't really matter how long you played your classic guitar until you can buy your first electric one. And if you want to start playing immediately on an electric guitar, that's O.K too but I personally think you should start with a classical guitar. So if you don't really know about guitars and which one to get, you should know that there are two particularly popular guitar companies. One is Gibson and the other is Fender. The Gibson's most famous guitar is the Les Paul and the Fender's most famous guitar is the Stratocaster.

Now. The best Stratocaster and Les Paul are the ones who are made in U.S.A. They should cost by a good price between 600$ and 800$ dollars. But if that is too much for you and you're not sure if you really want to get into the guitar playing so you can buy those guitars by less price but they won't be made in U.S.A. But that's O.K 'cause you can get a better guitar later on.

About getting your amp. I think it is better to buy a good amp at first with the clean sound and the distortion sound. Don't buy a really huge amp, (unless you're rich and you don't have a problem with money) just something like this-

This are good amps which you can have lot's of fun with. They are loud and just what you need. You can play them at gigs and for practicing. They costs about 200$ to 400$ dollars, may be 500$ dollars. Why is it important to get a good amp? Because it will last for long terms and so you wouldn't have to get a new amp afterwards with a new guitar you will probably want to buy after your old one.
But if you can't get a good amp like above, you can get a smaller one for about 100$ to 200$ but it will probably be without any distortion. But that's O.K 'cause it's very good for practicing.
