2. ID the roles and responsibilities of strategic managers at different levels within the organization

4. Discuss the rational/deterministic view of strategy.
5. ID and discuss techniques for improving strategic decision making
* Knowing why some organizations succeed and others fail is a theme that will be discussed throuout the topics.
*Strategic management is relevant to many different kinds of organizations, from small businesss to large multibusiness firms and from not-for-profit organizations to publically held profit-seeking corporations.
*Know the model of the stategic Management Process
This process can be broken down into components. These components include a selected corporate mission, major goals, an analysis of the external and internal operations of the firm. The selections of appropriate corporate and business stategies and the designing of organizational structures/control systems to implement the organizations chosen strategy are also included.
Be aware that emergent strategies can arise from within an organization without going through the steps of the strategic management process model in a sequential manner.

The planning model suggests stategies are a result of a plan and that the strategic process itself is rational and highly structured, it also suggests that the process is primarily directed by top management(traditional view).
A balance has to kept due to an unpredictable world of uncertaintly, complexity, ambiquity and chance events that can have a large and unpredictable impact upon outcomes. Lower level managers can also play a role in the strategic management process.
