Though parking can sometimes still be a problem at Green Valley, especially when there are other leagues playing on the same night as the Xavier league, long queues are less frequent than before. In addition, there are no parking fees at Green Valley, unlike at Megamall. The air conditioning at Green Valley is also shut down after the fourth game, and not during, a marked improvement in customer care. But the best thing for the league was that we were now playing at a venue which knew and cared about good bowling (and had the technical know-how to back it up) and thus, took care of its facilities and of its customers. There were no more worries about poor lane surfaces, lane oiling, and erratic ball reactions. The alumni could now focus on their games and on playing and interacting with each other. Granted, Green Valley isn't perfect, but no venue really is, and compared to the treatment that we got at SM Megamall Bowling Center, Green Valley is a breath of fresh air! So in this first year that the league was held at its new and more accommodating venue, Batch '71 came away with the top prize.
This wasn't the end of the story though. Before the fourth league ended, Batch '65, led by Dr. Severino Tanbunliong ('65), offered their services to host the league for the next year, the millennium year, 2000. The officers of the AAXS Bowling Club naturally welcomed and approved this move by Batch '65. Dr. Tanbunliong then decided to conduct a survey with all the league participants. He queried each team as to what time and day they wanted the league to be held, as well as which venue or bowling center they preferred to play in. It looked as if there was a possibility that another move might be in the offing.
As it turned out, about seventy-five percent of the
respondents to Dr. Tanbunliong's survey preferred to stay in Green Valley,
precisely because of the improvements I mentioned over SM Megamall. Thus, the
coming fifth AAXS Bowling League for the year 2000 was held again in Pasig,
which pleased the majority of the participants, and eliminated another tedious
move, negotiation (with the management of the new bowling center) and adjustment
period for all those concerned.
Since the millennium year, Green Valley has been
serving our bowling needs quite satisfactorily, and it has been the home of the
AAXS Bowling League up to the present.
