This poem was a piece of cake. I was talking to Andrew on the phone and we had just finished up Our Lovely Hair, and right then and there we wrote this entire poem. The stuff had happened just the night before. Just so you know, our church's small group sort of things are called kinships. Now there's been more than one person that's started reading this poem and got very creeped out. The combination of the poem's name and the first rhyme may seem a little scary, but that's not the way it was intended. We didn't even notice at the time. Oh, something funny about the writing of this poem! Andrew and I were trying to think of a rhyme that said that I'd found three bucks in my pocket. So Andrew suggested, "Jonathan found three, hee hee hee." I just burst into very loud hysterical laughter! I don't mean to be rude to my loving brother, but that was just so funny! Don't you think?
The Mysterious
Pants
By Jonathan Charlton and Andrew Saah
April 21, 1999
One night at kinship we were pondering a
poem
After a while our hands started to roam
Quite soon our eyes popped out of our sockets
We’d found four bucks in our pockets
Jonathan found three and Andrew found one
Our being perplexed had only just begun
We couldn’t understand where we got all
the dough
We were real confused and dying to know
Jonathan had just been paid some cash
But in his left pocket was where it was
stashed
In both our right pockets we found the spooky
bills
It was really freaky and both of us got
chills
Jonathan hadn’t worn those pants for a whole
year
Maybe during those long months the money
had appeared
Andrew found a blue pencil hiding in his
pants
If it stabbed him in the side he’d do a
painful dance
All in all you must admit our pants are
very odd
If you asked the very thing we’d vigorously
nod
