Hello and welcome to the official home page of #2600-UK, as the name already suggests, 2600-UK is a British hacking IRC (Internet
Relay Chat) channel. It's run by a group of hackers that enjoy the opportunity to hang around and chat about the subjects that
interest them like : Hacking, Phreaking, Encryption, Computer Security and a lot more.
You could kind of see it as a electronic pub for hackers, so it's of course treated in the same way i.e. chatting, small-talk and the
occasional bar fight (not that they last long!)
Due to the lack of people in the UK we organize meetings in the channel. On such occasions large numbers of people, many of
whom do not regularly attend the channel will visit for the meeting in which people can get to know other people, ask questions
and get some valuable information that people may not usually be able to get at other times. The meetings are a meant as a laugh
and go on for some time, normally about 3 hours. We try to hold them at the weekend so that maximum people can attend,
however they often start quite late. They are normally held on a Saturday night starting at about 22:45. On such occasions as a
bank holiday a meeting may be held on the Sunday before hand starting at approximately 21:45 so that those who can not normally
attend a saturday meeting due to work / partying then you can attend on a sunday when there is no work to go to on the following
morning.

We do have rules though:
o No fighting in the main channel (if you want to fight /msg them, *don't* bring it into the main
room)
o No warez (if you wan't to talk warez go to #warez)
o Please no BrOkeN CaPs (it went out of fashion years ago, so it isn't cool to talk like
that!)
o Don't nuke people or try to do a channel takeover
o And definitely don't ask for OP the whole time!
Don't bother people with things like: "Hi I'm new to this game please teach me how to hack"
I'm going to give you an example: You're siting in your favorite pub talking to a friend, like many other people are doing in the pub and then, Wham, the door goes open and there's some jerk yelling: "Will someone teach me to read?". What would stop you from throwing beer mats at his head and yelling fuck off! Get my point?
We go to #2600-uk to have a nice chat with people we socialize with, we go there to have fun, crack some jokes, have a good laugh (just like a real pub). We don't come in with a huge sign on our head saying "I will teach you hacking in 2 hours". All I'm saying is please respect our free time, I, like most hackers, don't have enough time to teach an amateur, it's not that we're evil or are keeping out on you but we just don't have enough time.
If you want to learn't to hack you *must* read a lot and experiment a lot. ( I know I'm not the first one to say that!) The knowledge is available for free on the net! l0pht and New Hack City are good places to start. One thing I must say though is that there are NO magic programs that hack for you!
