Some of my favorites: Frank Zappa
|
This page should give you a
little idea about me and the music and musicians I like. First I would like to mention that I am a big Frank Zappa admirer (and I applaud all the lucky musicians who had the pleasure of working with him throughout his long career) I personally think that Frank Zappa was a genius and definitely a guitar whiz... (may he rest in peace) I am a music lover, all kinds of music really, from jazz to classical although I am NOT a connoisseur at all. BUT... I really DON'T LIKE western/country/whining or any kind of music that involves farm animals, horse gear (saddles) mountain scenery, broken hearts (because of farm animals sometimes) failing marriages, crappy divorce or separations, or any kind of song that 'goes on' about a broken hearted farm girl named Lucille, Doreen, Darlene, Moreen, Marlene etc. - except Frank Zappa's songs of course hahahaha. I really like Genesis but there older stuff only (with Peter Gabriel) and bands like Brand X, UK, Bill Bruford, Yes - specially the RELAYER album with Patrick Moraz at the keyboards, Gentle Giant are 'superb' in there versatility, Soundgarden (long live), Red Hot Chilli Pepper (the bass player has to be the coolest in its presence), Steve Vai with his solo work and the stuff he did with Frank Zappa, Mr. Big (isn't Billy Sheehan just amazing) Jeff Beck with Jan Hammer LIVE and anything progressive/funk Level42, Cameo, Pat Metheny, Miles Davis (another genius), Jaco Pastorius rest his soul, Jean Luc Ponty, Stephane Grapelli, Albert Collins on the jazz side and alternative bands or whatever you want to describe them like Gong, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk to name a few. There are some bands that I really enjoyed seeing LIVE, like Yes and UK and I must say that Nazareth, Santana, Jethro Tull also put on a great show. My brother Michel and his friend Daniel Viens once saw a Kiss concert in the 80's (makeup and the works) at the old Montreal forum and they really enjoyed themselves there (read 'LOUD'). I remember going to see Bill Bruford (Bruford) one cold winter at this small cozy place in old Montreal with my brother Michel and some of our friends, I was sitting 3 feet away from Bill Bruford's drum set so I could see is each and every move he made, to bad Allan Holdsworth wasn't part of the band at that point in time anymore... Holdsworth's solo projects were excellent also. I will add more photos and more band/musician info later on... Level42 Peter Gabriel Cameo
