I will have to beg out of this one. PSP will NOT load. <&PALchat1> Right click your task bar and tile either vertically or horizontally Sandi <&PALchat1> Well, remimnd me and I'll send you the log Lu Hi Darleen! What is the name of the graphic - I can't find ti. sunflower.bmp sunflower.bmp <&PALchat1> sunflower.bmp thanks Is there an echo in here? LOL <&PALchat1> hehe I may have to leave. Dummy here has it figured out now......sorry i need a much larger monitor for all this <&PALchat1> Don't we all Pat :-) <&PALchat1> For the early folks.... next's weeks chat will be on Dingbat Fonts... watch for the date and time on Pals@Home. OK. Don't have Paint Shop Pro but will watch. Boy, we have some folks here now. <&PALchat1> Glad you could make it Steve, heard you got subbed to P@H. CatMc the sirens are going off? A reminder - Please have PSP and PA open before we start. Thank you Hi Helen Yes. I like it a lot better here. No fights! Hee Hee Do you want the programs up on screen <&PALchat1> Does anyone else need the sunflower.bmp file that we will be using tonight? <&PALchat1> Yes, Cheryl. Hi sandi, I got disconnected did you send me a file??? the sunflower Send it to me. I will try in Corel Photopaint 8. Do we want a blank sign in PA? not just not Just have the programs working in the background as you will be going to them after each instruciton and coming back for the next instruction. I just downloaded PSP 5 for this... someone sent me a ICQ file I went to get it and puter froze A blank sign in PA will do just fine. I think I had to many things goingg at once All set here It was me Helen....I sent you the graphic we will be using tonite I am going to sit in and take notes Ok...ready....glad our thunderstrom blew over...must have went to visit CatMc did you send it by ICQ if so you will have to send it again Yell when you want me to start, Sue Sandi, can you send the file to me, please. Yep - I think that it did. I think it has left us and gone northeast. <&PALchat1> Well, I still show a few minutes to 8 so let's wait just a few more. I don't like this time of year because of thunder & lightning & tornados...scare me to death! Oh my gosh...my teapot clock says 3 minutes after the hour. For shame!!! Darleen, can you send Steve the graphic we are using? Anyone care to give a comparison between Corel PhotoPaint8 and PSP5 later on or post to the list How can I send Steve the graphic? He's not on my ICQ list Mine either.... Steve - quick - what's your ICQ # <&PALchat1> I thought I sent it to him, I'm trying again... there, it went. I don't know about Corel 8...I have 5 and it constantly give me "not enough memory" errors when I try to open files Got it. Corel 5 does that I mean....I LOVE PSP 5 so far! <&PALchat1> Ok, Darleen, all my clocks say 8 now so whenever you are ready.... PSP is wonderful and I can't wait for the registered version to become available. It's still go some bugs though. Helen, to save this chat....under file choose save buffer Well, if it tells me not enough memory, it is lying as I now have 128 meg. <&PALchat1> Could I just get a quick show of who is logging, in case I get bumped. Hooray - We're off ;and running. Ok...1st - open the sunflower graphic in PSP. marty logging thats all Sandi, just click it on How do you log? i have it logging I am <&PALchat1> ok, thanks I am too..I think...never done it before It's there Thanks Sandi Choose Colors - Decrease Colors - 16 colors ready ready Choose the paint bucket and double click on the foreground color box. uh....which one is the foreground? I can't get the color to register 16 colors...what am I doing wrong. The foreground box is the top box - probably white in color when I click decrease it says on 2 I can't either Wait a minute - I am lost. Do you mean increase colors? I had to increase mine first before I could decrease to 16 it seems the sunflower is already 16 colors...confused me for a sec mine will only show 2 me too It's possible that the sunflower I sent is already at 16 colors. So you can skip this step for this particular graphic. Just remember to do it for other B&W graphics that you might be working with. If I click on decrease colors - it says 2 colors. Is that correct? Ok...If you have d/clicked the foreground box, you should d/click one of the colors that is showing and a palette will come up. I had to increase to 256 color to get color Cathy - leave the colors alone. This graphic apparantly is already at 16 colors I have now decresed to 16 and it black and white I don't have a paint bucket...using PSP 3.0 The paint bucket is in all versions of PSP. oops...just found the pallette with all the colors OK now..which color do you want us to use I'm going to run through this whole procedure once and then go back agian for the ones that didn't get it. thanks When at the pallette, choose a color and then click on ok. Click ok to get back to the graphic. Using the paintbucket - fill the graphic with the color that you picked. To pick another color - repeat the previous step. hmmm..i get a message that i gotta pick a pattern first never mind Darleen, should I be seeing a full color pallette or just a few colors? A few colors i wonder if a sunflower is suppose to be red LOL After you have filled the sunflower with the colors, save the graphic as a bmp and put it in the directory where your bmp files are kept and PA knows where to find them. Open PA to that blank sign and minimize PSP Choose FILE/IMPORT Sorry - back up to PSP everyone and open that sunflower that you just colored. DUh uhhh Choose a light gray color for the foreground and color the white background with this gray. Now save the bmp. I'm soooo sorry. i have the grey selected but it's still using the other color wait a sec....never mind....duh OK I have the flower up on screen in PA In PA - Do a FILE / IMPORT find the bmp file and import it If you are using PA4, you will need to do a directory update as it doesn't do it automatically as PA3 does. If the Sunflower is in your blank sign, choose Color/customize. my suflower's grey background turned white when I imported it...Ok? mine did too :) Fine the gray that is the same as the background. Replace it with the transparent square in the pallette. Click on OK and it's now a transparent graphic in PA Sandi - Maybe your gray was just too light when you picked it in PSP. Give it a try as it is and see if you can identify it in the customize menu. Tht's great...NOw does this work with textures I tried it with some textures and it doesn't always work. It depends on how busy the texture pattern is. Some of them were distorted to badly with the colors. hmmm.....mine isn't transpaprent transparent even Can you do it with any more than 16 colors? I'm not doing something right Pat - Go back to PSP and pick another color for the background and try again. You'll need to rename it when you import it back into PA. Mine worked fine...now I am goint back and trying it with a fill Vicki - unfortuately, it only works with 16 colors. It's limited on colors but serves the purpose.most of the time. Bummer...wonder if PA 5 will accept GIFS? hmmmm...now pa won't import it We're hoping for that. As a beta tester, I have not been made privy to that part yet I did this one time with a teddy bear - it had 16 colors but there were not many colors used in the graphic. I mean that it had more colors - 256 I think I have used it with 256 colors at times too, but it's not consistent showing the customize option all the time. Ch Cheryl, does PSP do fountain fills? Pat - Where are you that youare stuck? I made it a darker grey....still isn't transparent i tried importing into pa....tells me it's too complex <&PALchat1> Pat, are you choosing metafile or bmp when you import it? Sandi - Is the darker grey still showing around the graphic? And did you replace it with the box with the X in it? bmp <&PALchat1> Hmmm. i'm rescanning....see if that works yes it is grey...how do you relplace it? Can you just find the graphic in directory set-up and import that way? ok....i got it in.....now let me see if i can make it transparent Sandi - Color/Customize. Find the gray in the background and replace it with the white box with the X in the middle. Sandi - the gray background will disappear and become white if you picked the right gray Sandi, the box with the x in it is the transparent in most of the graphics and/or drawing programs. Yeah......I did It!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Darleen Hooray Sandi - Anyone else need some help? nope....won't go transparent Darleen, have you done this with graphics that have more than one color? oh wait....it did!!!!!!! Yes, Cathy - I have done them with all my own graphics colored with many colors. good gonin Sandi >g> YEAH PAT!! Let me ask this - when you customize - do the original colors of the graphic change? so did ya say it only works for 16 colors? Darleen...can you color it in PSP w/ more than 16 color & then decrease colors before you save? Any B&W graphic will work using whatever colors you can pick from that pallette in PSP. Sometimes when you import it though, the colors are icky and you need to find it and change it in PA. Hey, you can even turn the middle transparent...this is fun Pat, Yes you can color with more colors and decrease later after coloring. CatMc usually only if you save the graphic to the original file. Save it to another then you have the original if things go OTL. wish i had known how to do this yesterday....i was trying every which way i could to get a jpeg transparent Yes, you can make other parts of a graphic transparent. I use it for the inside handles of teapots, as an example Have I missed any questions from anyone? If not...then this was a pretty short class. You're all just so smart I'll put this up on my web page... Can we have another chat session on PSP for newbies to PSP Thanks Vicki Susieque - Sure - anytime <&PALchat1> I'm figuring out how to do this in Picture Publisher... i would like to learn how to make graphics from scratch using psp I want to know why you did not figure this out a year ago - sure would have saved me a lot of headaches! This technique has been the best thing I've learned lately. I can now layer bmp's overlapping borders for unique looks. Sue, can you add this to your list of chat sessions. The Question is, did you learn anything from those headaches? Yeah...shame on you Darleen...slacking off! :) Very funny, Cathy nope did not learn a thing! Gee, I am glad I logged this cuz I had to do the gg thing and I just got my sunflower into my sign. Martym - go ahead and do the rest - I'm here for awhile <&PALchat1> Susieque... could you e-mail it to me, then I can put it my ICQ chat folder and I won't forget. Quick ? Darleen...how on earth do u use the 'clone' brush? I need to get the same color again & can't find it! OK, Thanks Darlene. Will scroll up and be back in a bit <&PALchat1> You guys are welcome to stay and chat... should I open it back up for people to come in again? Will do Sue. Vicki - LOL...that's one tool, I don't use. Anyone else know how? LOL I use it but never very well OK while we are here. How do you get a texture into the fill in PSP To get the same color back, I just pick the bucket, hold down the control key and the eyedropper picks it up I can find the fills in Corel5 but just downloaded PSP and I am lost Look at my web page.... I have a nice 'how to' on textures...compliments of Teapot! will this work if you save it as a jpg, or does it gotta be bmp? Yeap! It works it works! Thanks Teapot!! Darlene - I'll have to do it later. It won't let me stay up where the directions are. Just keeps popping back to bottom. I think I understood what you were doing so I don't think I;ll have a problem. Pat - It needs to be a bmp. k thanks vicki will do Who was asking about the clone brush? I use it. <&PALchat1> ok... I did it with Picture Publisher.... woo hoo Cheryl and others - do you want me to lead you through patter fills in PSP while we are here? Oh YES Darlene What is the magic wand please That would be great if you ahve the time I'll wait while you work through the clone thing Yes, Darlene! Please! <&PALchat1> Darleem, did you get my e-mail yesterday? The one I forwarded? Don't remember, Sue - I get so many Hi Everyone Judy - Want to explain to everyone how to do the color replacer tool? yikes, you don't start easy--Cathy, this is your area, isn't it? <&PALchat1> Does anyone object if I allow newcomers into the chat. I didn't want to disturb the lesson before. If not, we'll save it for another day and we'll move to the pattern fills. What do you mean - I am lost again. color replacer is that the magic wand go for it Sue Hi, I'm back. Telephone line dropped out I guess... To do a patter fill, you will need to have that sunflower opened along with a pattern file that you have on your computer. Anything will do. nope not the magic wand for color replacer--was quickly reading help, but have never used it Yell when you have those items open and we'll continue. If you don't have a pattern, you should find one in Windows. Never mind, Judy - we'll work on it later There are bmp files that are like textures used for your desktop. got my spagetti disk ready! Right Cathy - there are bmp patterns in the windows directory. Will it accept pcx files Sure - even jpgs and wmf's or tiffs cool.....you can drag and drop into PSP You can drag and drop into PSP??? did not kow that!! I just copied a textile from PA before I closed the window. yeah....i just tried it and it worked If ready - make the sunflower active and increase those colors to 16m this time. I have the file here, where do I put it With PSP open - have both the sunflower and the texture graphics open side by side. I LOVE coloring graphics with textile fills - Lots of fun! Cool! I just colored a cute teddy w/16M colors, reduced it to 16, imported, got rid of the gray background & it's transparent on my pix! Yeah! (Sorry for interrupting!) ok good did not know you could do that Hightlight the sunflower and pick the paint bucket. A box will pop up. Under fill style it now says Solid Color, right? Click on the arrow next to it and choose the word PATTERN Next to that box is a box called OPTIONS. Click on it A box pops up that says Define New Pattern. Where it says New Pattern Source, click on the down arrow. No no window pops up I did it! That is super cool! That textile you imported should be listed. Click on it Wow, I did it!!!! How neat! click on OK. Now move to the sunflower and fill an area of the graphic Cheryl - You need to have the FILL STYLE pointing to the word pattern when you click on the Options box next to it. Cheryl, look at the toolbar under the paint bucket. Yay! I did it! You should see Fill Style, select pattern. I just found the dropdown tool palette.....It was not checked to open... I am up and running Between these two procedures, a whole new world will be opening up to you with graphics. Darlene - do you use PA3 or PA4? I use both but primarily PA4. <&PALchat1> A whole new world.... la la la la yay....i just made the pattern filled sunflower transparent....and i see not a heck of a lot in color quality by reducing it <&PALchat1> what movie is that from? I hope someone is saving this as the lights blinked and the UPS kicked in.... er, color quality losss Thank you so much Darlene! I am so glad I came to chat tonight. I am Steve. This is Marty M. You're welcome, Beth Yes, thank you Darlene <&PALchat1> I've got it all so far. I did not like black and white graphics until I learned how to do the textile fills. What a way to use my fabric stash! You've just opened a whole new world, Darlene. Thanks If you hae a scanner, you can scan all sorts of things to color your graphics. You're welcome everyone. You'll be out getting textile patterns and recoloring all your graphics. I learned this right after coloring 3 sets of Provo graphics and had to do them all over again. HA!! Thanks Darlene...PSP is a little different now i need another 24 hours in a day LOL PSP 5's major new thing I love is the undo history... I have scanned lots and lots of wallpaper to use to color my graphics. Good idea Cathy and the check is in the mail to you! Another great idea for wallpaper books! Commercial here....and don't forget the great textile patterns that Teapot Designs has for sale. Sorry..the devil made me do that. I have to say goodnight. I have really enjoyed this! am now looking forward to more lessons! <&PALchat1> Question.... nite beth Bye Beth Nite, Beth..thanks for joining us Goodnight fair lady... <&PALchat1> Do you guys think you could get in trouble for scanning say a wallpaper patterna nd then using it is a fill, and putting the graphic up on a website? My 'commercial'...check out my web page for editorials Darleen has done.... <&PALchat1> Just curious.... Those wallpapers are copywrited and cannot be used for commercial use Sue, it is probably not OK, but I don't think you would get in trouble. Vicki, send me your web page address <&PALchat1> That's what I thought. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5984/ I think that the wallpaper patterns are hard to recognize. Hi l <&PALchat1> Same with textiles to... meaning scanned fabric. Hi Lynne Unless you get something really different, you know what I mean. The ones we use are generally discontinued patterns anyway... <&PALchat1> Discontinued does not void any copyright tho. But are discontinued patterns still copyrighted? Yes - all fabric is copyrighted also. Doesn't matter if the patterns are discontinued. They are still copywrited Hi everyone Are you going to do a web page Sue? (Guess that would be a yes!) Hi LadyDove. <&PALchat1> Ummm... didn't have any plans for one, just curious HI LD, Sorry you're late :( <&PALchat1> Speaking of web pages.... Mary M, can you send me the log once this is over? OK Steve.
