The Fast and The Furiouse

The Setup
A mysterious, newcomer in town (Paul Walker) struggles to get in with a tightly knit gang of LA street racers, led by Vin Diesel. Is Walker just trying to get close to Diesel's sexy younger sister (Jordana Brewster), or is he on a more serious mission, involving the wave of truck hijackings--all involving a high-speed, precision-driving team--that has stymied the FBI?

The Breakdown
Of unusual purity and consistency, directed as a high-decibel blur of auto and body parts by the blissfully unselfconscious Rob Cohen ("The Skulls," "Daylight"). Nobody in the film flinches at lines like "I live my life a quarter-mile at a time." The two pumped-up leads never stop eyeing each other, though the sexual tension has to be played out through the conflict over the kid sister. Diesel's character also has an alibi-providing girlfriend, played by Michelle Rodriguez.
