Lout setup files collection

Following are various Lout setup files and utilities. They are sorted according to submission date, sorted from most recent and on.

All files have been submitted with permission to further distribute at least via this site. Please avoid redistribution without permission. Unless otherwise specified, the maintainer of this page has no copyrights on the files.

The files are compressed using ZIP, for ease of use on various platforms. Freely available UNZIP utilities should be accessible for most operation systems, and certainly for Unix and DOS/Windows. Care must be taken to extract the archives in text mode, to preserve operation system dependent end of line markers. Filenames are converted to 8 letters when possible.

tab2lout 2.4kb (1998/6/20)
Converts a standard ASCII representation of a table to Lout document.
Requires 'awk', and 'bash'.
Written by Gordon Deane, [email protected].

letter 5.5kb (1998/4/20)
A letterhead style. The author says it is a total hack and will not maintain it.
Written by Jeffrey H. Kingston, [email protected].

ordcite 1.6kb (1998/4/17)
Adds a numeric label to each reference so that they can be cited in order of appearance in the text - as in the Vancouver citation style.
Comes with a matching reference style to go with.
Requires 'awk' and 'sed', as well as the ability to execute a simple DOS/Windows batch file (or write an equivalent).
Written by David Duffy, [email protected].

htm_lout 1.9kb (1998/4/17)
Translates a subset of HTML to Lout (no tables, etc.).
Requires 'awk'.
Written by David Duffy, [email protected].

Lout FAQ/HOWTO

The Lout FAQ/HOWTO, written by Eric Marsden, is also available here, as a mirror. I cannot promise this is the latest revision - this is only here in case the original document cannot be reached due to technical problems.

The FAQ is available in plaintext format, as loutFAQ.txt, and in PostScript format, as loutFAQ.ps.

What is Lout

Lout is a freely available (as defined by the GNU public license; visit www.gnu.org for details) typesetting system for various platforms, designed and implemented by Jeffrey H. Kingston. The latest version, as well as additional information, can be found in Lout's web site, www.ptc.spbu.ru/~uwe/lout/lout.html. The distribution files can be found at Jeffrey Kingston's ftp directory, ftp.cs.su.oz.au:/jeff, as well as several other mirrors.
