"This page is dedicated to many of my hours researching good web sites for my interests. If you share my interests, they will be useful for you. They include finding great deals, comprehensive and accurate information, and overall good content. This personal web page is different than searching through an internet portal, starting point, or serach engine because these web sites are personally found, used, and recommended by ME! NO long, frusterating lists of useless websites. NO advertising. NO browsing and surfing through search results." -Mike
This page will continuously change/update as I am reminded/find of more good ones. Come back every once in a while.
PLEASE TELL ME ANY OPINIONS OR SUGGESTIONS YOU HAVE FOR THESE AND OTHER RELATED SITES.
(*) denotes re-iteration of a fabulous site with new date.
|
This is currently my favorite search tool. It queries all other search engines.
|
|
Yahoo and Yellowpages.com seem to have the edge over Infospace for yellow pages. Infospace still hasn't updated an area code that has been changed for over a year.
|
|
Infospace knows my new phone number in Virginia (~ 2 years ago). Yahoo! still thinks I'm at an address 3 years old!

Fogdog Sports |
(08/01/2000) |
Online sporting goods store. I am currently being a new potential user. Prices are resonable, especially if you find what you want and it will save you a trip to a store. Covers a large variety of sports. Good place to start shopping around for things you are looking into, but not a one stop shop due to unavailability of all brands.
Details:
- Low selection of Cytomax.
- No Performance bicycling stuff.
- No savings on buying energy bars/gels by the box.
|
|
Gorp Gear |
(07/12/2000) |
Online sporting goods store. I am currently being a new user. I don't know prices or service yet, but it looks good so far, lot's of stuff, user-friendly web site.
They'll even put an adventure vacation package together for you.
|
Comparison of Gorp Gear and Fogdog (07/12/2000):
- Gorp Gear and Fogdog Sports have very similar prices
- When comparing hiking shoes, neither can beat the price of REI retail stores
- Gorp Gear has a better selection in light hiking shoes
- Fogdog has a better selection in bike shorts
So far, I think both sites require a visit for a complete shopping search and comparison

395.com |
(08/22/2000)

California Route 395 is the corridor to the Sierra-Nevada and White/Inyo Mountains. This route is required route for getting Mammoth Mountain, Mt. Whitney, and other California mountain attractions. This site is interesting especially when planning to visit or have visited this area.

This company puts together awesome mountainbike trips and more. I met the guy who runs this thing and am looking forward to getting another Moab mountainbike trip together with at least a day of his guidance.

MTB Info |
(08/22/2000)
|
So far, this is the best I can do for finding a website relating to mountainbike information including trail information. This site has a great foundation, but needs more complete information to fill in the seemingly sparse content. Try it anyway, they might have great information for the trails and area you are looking for. I used their product review to get an opinion on choosing my headlight system. I look forward to using it for more trail information.

This site is really cool for all national park information. If you're planning a trip to a national park, this a great place to start.
|
|
Sierra Wilderness.com |
(08/22/2000)
|
A web site dedicated to the Sierra-Nevada Mountains. I havn't evaluated my opinion on it, but it looks like useful information especially for hiking and trail information and conditions.

National Discout Brokers
|
(07/07/2000) |
|
My discount broker. Overall good service. Trades are $14.75 online, $19.75 phone, and $25 using a live person. I've been able to connect to person virtually immediately for every one of my few attempts to call a person. Sometimes they confuse me with their statements and web screens. Can trade OTC stocks, options, write covered calls (by selling short a call option for a security you already own), and hold margin. Their margin rates were higher than most other discount
brokers when I did a survey a year or two ago. Biggest downfall: the web site is a little slow. I don't understand why it takes so long to display the screens. I wouldn't discourage you from choosing them, but there is room for them to improve in picky areas.

Joe Cartoon
|
(03/28/2001)(*) |
Twisted and demented, but easy to go along with. Sometimes you'll get a download that isn't quite funny to you, but it's worth finding the ones that are.
WARNING- Joe Cartoon recently added new cartoons which force you to install software which monitors your web activity to provide as surfing demographics to e-commerce. If you know what you're doing, you can remove it after you install it, and all the Joe Cartoons will continue to run.

These free ISPs are disappearing. I don't really know a good one anymore. Let me know if you find something. I can't wait until modems are like the 8-track. Come on, broadband!!

Slowmedown
|
(03/28/2001)

Plug-in for Winamp. This utility slows down a song played by Winamp without changing the pitch. Perfect for learning songs by listening and playing along at a slower speed. The version I have is a little quirky and requires restarts of Winamp to work sometimes. But then again, that's on a Celeron using Microsoft Windows 98.

Music123.com
|
(04/06/2001)

Massive music supply store online. I used these guys twice so far, and a friend of mine also happily used them. They have great prices, fast telephone customer service (be ready to talk, you're not going to be on hold for long, if at all), convenient ordering and email followups. I'm about to try their return policy. I didn't pay attention to the dimentions they listed on a guitar case.

Drugstore.com
|
(03/28/2001)
|
Most excellent for avoiding the store for drugstore needs, or hard to find items (like Aveeno Shaving Cream). They usually send you gift certificates for about $10, which more than covers the cost of shipping. Even if you have to pay shipping, think how much it's worth it to not go to the only store which carries what you want.

Cytosport (maker of Cytomax) |
(08/22/2000)
|
If what Cytosport says is even half true about their Cytomax product, Gatorade is not very sufficient in supplying the ingredients to aid extreme activity. So far, I actually did notice a difference in performance using Cytomax. After a few more weeks, I should be able to tell if it is in my head or not, but I don't think it is.
Cytomax can be purchased at www.sportsnutritiondepot.com. Buying direct from Cytosport is much more expensive. Click here to see my review of SportNutritionDepot.com.

www.sportsnutritiondepot.com (NOW www.nutripeak.com)
|
(08/22/2000)
|
I Found Nutripeak, formerly Sport Nutrition Depot, while searching for the cheapest place to find Cytomax. After finding 4 good online supplement stores, this one was the cheapest. Perhaps most everything else is cheap too. I'll let you know as I use it, but as in all these links, let me know your experience.
As a bonus, I get discounts based on referrals. The following message is a preformed message that SPORT NUTRITION DEPOT wanted me to use:
I've been receiving great discounts by shopping for my sports
nutrition and health supplements online at Sports Nutrition
Depot (SND). They carry all the top brands at savings of 20-50% off.
Please check them out for yourself at the following URL:
http://www.sportsnutritiondepot.com/cgi-bin/snd.storefront/?rmid=11247
Just visit the URL above, and you'll receive a 10% discount on
your first order when you enter media code "RM11A". Plus, I'll
receive bonus points for referring you. (Please use the exact URL
above, so I get credit). Not only will you save time and money,
you can start earning member points right away to use for additional
rewards and discounts.
YADDI YADII YADII. I would recommend this place anyway without the deal. (this site has a limited evaluation for comparison)

Performance Bicycle |
(08/22/2000)
|
The website for the well-known brand amongst bicyclists. Performance products seem to be difficult to get on the 3rd party market. I purchased a Performance headlight system (works fine so far). Although Performance is one of the leaders in the cycling arena, don't stop here, just use this site for your shopping, information, and surfing assistance. (this site has a limited evaluation for price comparison)
|
|
Colorado Cyclist |
(08/22/2000)
|
A source for bicycling equipment. I purchased a bicycle travel case from them. It was the cheapest amongst Bike Nashbar and one other place I forget. Although Colorado Cyclist is a good place to visit, don't stop here, just use this site for your shopping, information, and surfing assistance. (this site has a limited evaluation for price comparison)
|
|
SuperGo Bike Shops |
(08/22/2000)
|
To be more complete in the bike supply sites, this is another source for bicycling equipment. I havn't purchased anything from SuperGo yet, but a co-worker raves about this store, especially since they let you ride high end bicycles before you purchase them (at their retail staores, or course). Although SuperGo is a good place to visit, don't stop here, just use this site for your shopping, information, and surfing assistance. (this site has a limited evaluation for price comparison)
|
|
Divers Supply |
(08/22/2000)
|
Among several web sites, this place had the lowest price for the particular mask I was looking for. I plan to use this site for more gear, and compare prices one more time. (this site has a limited evaluation for price comparison)

|
K2 Sports |
(09/21/2000)
|
A Flashy site. No pun intended. This site requires flash player. I am noting this site because it's very animated/interactive/cool, and this type of web site may be the future when higher bandwidth is economically available. Besides, you can see their line of bikes, in-line skates, snowboards, and snowskiis. I own a pair of their high end in-line skates (Catalyst) and high end snowboard (Eldorado). They both perform well.

Geocities
|
(03/28/2001)(*) |
| Another Yahoo! entity, Geocities is my web site provider. Again, it is free, but the catch is that you have to place an advertisement banner somewhere on each of your web pages. Otherwise, they pop one in the upper right corner for you. You can even stick the advertisement way on the bottom! Geocities has great web site tools. 15M space, upgradable to 25M for $5/month. Awesome tools for all levels of expertise. I have not found another free web hosting service which allows you to place the advertising banner where you wish (like all the way the bottom!). Only one downfall: the site seems a bit slow to serve the web pages. |
Yahoo!
|
(07/07/2000) |
| Yahoo! continues to be a leader in the best starting points for the web. |
My Yahoo!
|
(07/07/2000) |
| My Yahoo! is a great place to personalize your web/internet content. I use it every day. It is always my default page. Register now, you may love it too. It's free, no catches. They don't send you junk email, just make sure you don't miss the checkbox when registering to keep you off the junk email list. |
