What got you into spinning?

My uncle used to play around with 12"'s and 45's, back in the 70's when I was a kid, and it always piqued my interest, and by the start of the 90's I was pissed off with the music selection of most DJ's, sick of most remixes, so I sought out a way  how to remix or extend my favorite songs to the length I liked.  I was also infatuated with a DJ trick called "flange", wanted to learn how to make that sound ...and well, it kind of  blossomed from there....

What are your three favorite tracks?

God, that is a hard one. Everytime I get a specific answer, it changes...if you really must know the answer, feel free to email me, and I can give you my favorites of the week. :-)

What is your favorite style, and what others do you play?

I'll play IT. No matter what IT is, I can probably find a way to incorporate it into what I'm doing at the moment. I usually go thru phases for about two weeks, where my focus is on a particular area or style, but I usually don't stick to it for long.   I really like a well crafted song remix. There is a flipside to that however, it has become harder and harder to find good songs that have been remixed, so I usually end up playing the dub.  (Friends have to remind me to toss in a vocal every now then.!)  I do have a propensity for Peak Hour/ New York Underground. I also like TekDisko, Trance House, some Progressive House, and quite a few other different styles.  Have been known to dance around light techno, euro, deep house, ghetto house (now known as progressive house) etc.  I try to stay extremely versatile.  I strive to get to a point where you can hand me a stack of records I have never heard, and I can convincingly come up with a good mix on  the first play.

What do you like most about the scene?

I like the sense of unity that a  crowd of positive people who are out for one cause, a good groove! If the people in a venue are serious, and they are there for the music (ie, not just to get drunk and hurl their bods at people, to cruise for sex, drugs, etc) and are truly looking to have a good time, I can get into it. That is what I look for when I go out, and thats what gets me off, the unity.

What DJ's/Producers do you admire?

My utmost favorite (at the moment) is Thunderpuss 2000, for delivering a consistently good mix EVERY SINGLE TIME! A great example of that is what they did to Madonna's "Don't Tell Me".  That remix was turned around in 3 DAYS!  Club 69/Peter Rauhoffer,  Danny Teneglia, some Sasha, Razor and Guido, Ralphi Rosario (hot big club style tribal ), Terri Bristol (that girl can do things with 2 decks it takes people 5 decks to try and duplicate), Robbie Rivera, Olav Basoski, Armand Van Helden, Laura B, just to name a few.

Is it because of how they spin or the tracks they produce?

Club 69 (BOTH), Danny Teneglia , Sasha (his spinning is TOP NOTCH), BT (his tracks and his recent production ventures are hot), R-N-G (the originators of the Big Club Build UP), Ralphi, Terri Bristol (see above). For me its a combo of both, nothing independant. A cumulative effect I guess.

Where do you want to be in the next 2 years?

I've recently started dabbling into song production with a few song creation programs.  One of the tracks on the main page has one of my compositions titled "Alarm Clock" on it.  I have recently decided to include "Alarm Clock" as a stand alone track, and will soon be available for download, as will others that I am working on.  I would like to delve further into production, and remixing.  I am also working  to have my mixes be available commercially.

Most memorable pary you have spun at:

I have yet to experience such a thrill, cause I feel there is ALWAYS room for improvement. It isn't good till the place disintegrates,  right before you cut the  last track, and nothing but a pile of bricks is all that's left in your wake!

When was your first party, and how much did you get paid?

My first party was in 1993. It was something like out of Janet's Go Deep video. I invited a couple of friends over for cocktails and to show off my new turntables, well, they invited some people, who in turn invited some people, and about 150 people later in my living room, I was out about 500 bills! (Carpet replacement, food, booze, and other misc expenses). But it was a BLAST!

Who is your Personal Mentor?

I don't have a mentor, as of yet. Although I am looking to align myself with others in the business for peer to peer relationships.  Something where we can each collaborate, and grow together. Someone I look up to? That would have to be Ralphi Rosario. He is a fine testament to longevity, excellent  mixing skills, and one of the best nights left in the city.  You can approach the booth and talk to him, hang out with him, hell, he'll even buy you a drink if he thinks you are kewel! I find that an inspiration in an industry overrun with overinflated ego's, and supermacho superstar status, and a tendency to forget how we got to where we are.
