RANSOM, Ray - 1951-61.  127 games, 60 goals.  {2nds - 12 games, 14 goals;  3rds - 5 games, 7 goals}.Big ruckman.  Graduated through the Thirds and  Reserves.  Played in Sandringham's 1960 Grand Final side.  Cleared to Highett FC as playing coach.   Later played for Caulfield - Brighton in 1964.

RASMUSSEN, Gary - 1960.  9 games, 9 goals.  {2nds - 8 games, 18 goals}.  Recruited from Hawthorn, where he played 1958-59 (7 games, 3 goals}.  A fiery blond left foot ruckman who had the ability to rise very high for hit outs to his rover, and picked up quite a few goals when resting in the forward pocket.  Gary played in the 1960 Reserve Premiership side.  He was cleared to Yea FC in 1961.  Coached the Reserves in 1975.

RAYMENT, Doug - 1930-34.  64 games, 100 goals.  Recruited from Port Melbourne.  Played for the VFA in 1932 against the VFL.  He transferred to St.Kilda after 1 game in 1934.  Doug played with St.Kilda from 1934 to 1940 (99 games, 35 goals).  He was a tough small man with a ton of cheek and the  ability to kick long.  With Sandringham he was a foward pocket - rover, but at St.Kilda was converted to a  winger, and was a tireless and tenacious player in that role.

RICHARDS, Don  -  1957-61.   70 games, 28 goals.  {2nds -  2 games, 0 goals}.  A centre man recruited from Ferntree Gully.  His pace, uncanny ball control, clever baulking and turning, combined with his ability  to deliver the ball accurately with either foot, or drive down field with a long kick consistently left his opponents non-plussed  and gained control of the game for the Zebras.  He played  in Sandringham's 1960 Grand Final side.

RUGOLO, Frank  -  1988-94.   82 games, 319 goals.  {2nds - 34 games, 109 goals}.    A product of Assumption College, Kilmore.  Played with Melbourne (1983-86, 11 games, 11 goals).  Recruited from Footscray.  Frank was Sandringham's leading goal kicker for 1989 (51 goals), 1990 (81 goals), 1991 (78 goals), and 1992 (79 goals).  He was leading goal kicker for the VFA in 1992.  Frank was dropped in the 1992 Finals Series, and kicked 1 goal 13 behinds in the Reserves Second Semi Final, and was considered by many to be lucky to play in the 1992 Senior Premiership side.  He played in the 1993 Reserves Premiership side.  Frank has kicked 10 goals or more for the Seniors on 6 occasions - 13 goals v. Preston in 1991;  11 goals v. Prahran in 1990, and v, Port Melbourne in 1991;  and 10 goals v. Brunswick in 1989, v. Oakleigh in 1990, and v. Oakleigh in 1992.  In his 11 goal haul v. Port Melbourne Frank kicked 8 goals in the last quarter.  He kicked 10 goals in the 1993 Reserves Preliminary Final against Springvale.  He played in the 1994 Reserves Premiership side, and was Reserves leading goal kicker in 1994.

RUGOLO, Joe - 1988-94.  102 games, 56 goals.  {2nds - 15 games, 5 goals}.  A product of  Assumption College, Kilmore.  Recruited from Melbourne, where he played from 1985 to 1987 (8 games, 0 goals).  He was equal third in the Liston Trophy in 1990 and 1991.   Joe  won Sandringham's Best and Fairest in 1991.  He won the Liston Trophy in 1992, and won  the Norm Goss Medal for best on ground in the 1992 Premiership win.   The "gentle giant of  the VFA" recorded one of the most popular victories in the VFA's Best and Fairest award.   He played in the 1994 Reseves Premiership side.

RUSSELL, James (Jim)  - 1948-53.  109 games, 41 goals.  Recruited from Hampton Rovers.  In 1950 Jim was selected in VFA sides to play in Canberra, and at the Carnival in Brisbane.  A VFA representative in the 1951 team which defeated Tasmania (he kicked 4 goals).  He was also selected to play in the VFA side to play the Australian Amateurs in Canberra in 1951, but was suspended for three weeks on the eve of the match for striking a Preston player.  Cleared to Bentleigh FC in 1954.
