Five faculty members were sent to Baan Institute at Hyderabad for training on Baan 4.0.

A summer project sponsored by Baan Company has been completed under the direction of S. Kanungo. The project title is Evaluation of enterprise-wide system requirements in the Indian manufacturing industry. The Baan partner in this project is Deepak Ruchandani. This is being done as a part of the MBA summer training. Students involved in this project are Saurabh Sharma, N. V. Shekhar Babu and Kapil Bhatia . Click here to more about the study.

A project on Supply Chain Management with focus on degree of coupling of intra- and inter-organizational processes has been taken up. The project is directed by S. Kanungo. The team members include Saurabh Sharma, N. V. Shekhar Babu and Kapil Bhatia.

A doctoral research project entitled Organizational influencers of ERP success has been undertaken by Mr. Vineet Kansal under the supervision of Dr. S. Kanungo

A working paper has been prepared entitled "Assessing ERP projects using AHP." The paper is authored by S. Kanungo and S. Goel from BPL Electronics.

S. Wadhwa has initiated research in the area of manufacturing automation within the ERP framework.

The manuscript entitled Enterprise-wide information systems: Custom-built versus packaged approaches has been published as an invited paper in Productivity - The quarterly Journal of the National Productivity Council in Volume 38, Number 2, 1998. The abstract is reproduced here. Abstract: The core theme of this paper revolves around the managerial decision to commit to and enterprise resource planning software or to develop customized enterprise-wide information systems in house. We argue that since developing enterprise-wide information systems has become a sine qua non for organizational excellence, the decision to go in for "canned" solutions as opposed to customized ones has become a critical managerial decision. Intertwined with this decision problem is the process issue of the change (and the pace at which such change takes place) associated with implementing enterprise-wide information systems. We provide an analytical framework and follow that up with discussions and case studies that highlight the similarities and differences in the two approaches. One of our main conclusion is the in the Indian context organizational preparedness becomes a key determinant of the success of enterprise computing efforts. Organizational preparedness includes aspects like maturity of organizational processes and coverage of existing information systems. Another finding was that both the "canned" approach and the custom-developed approach share the same essential characteristics. It is up to organizations to calibrate the rate and extent of change associated with either of the two approaches.
